I'm curious to this as well. I'm finding this forum to be one of the least helpful for any game I've played, as no one replies. I know many of these things are basic, but some are not covered in the FAQS and numerous beginner's guides.

-I'd like to know how to start out on the pavement to practice coldstarting. Campaign and quickstart starts me in the air, mission folder is empty and I can't find any to download, and the editor is confusing.

1/ - Have you set the unit's skill to "player" ?

2/ - If you just want to practice startups... Add a Ka-50 somewhere near an airport, set skill to player, first waypoint to "start from Ramp". Aircraft should snap to nearest AP. Save, fly...

Cheers.

Great, thank you so much. :)

I'm attempting to start up, and everything's gold until I try to start the left engine. I set the APU valve switch to open, turn on the forward and rear fuel pumps, and start the APU. Release rotor brake, close cockpit door. I open the left engine shut off valve (is this clickable, I can't find it so I'm using key bindings), turn on the left engine EEG, set the selector to the left engine, and press start, then open the cutoff valve.

Everything is going well up until this point. The rotors do begin to spin, but do not gain speed, eventually slowing to a stop within a minute, obviously the engine RPM does not climb. I'm doing exactly what is shown in the video step for step and for some reason it's different.

What am I missing?

I'd love to if I knew how. :)

Anyways, figured it out. Wasn't flipping the fuel shut off valve off after starting engine, died from lack of fuel. I'm reading around here and see in the rookie thread talk of training missions, but I can't find these anywhere. I DLed all the videos, have searched online for missions...."shooting gallery" is one, and can't find any. Where are these at?

Thanks for your help, I appreciate it.

It seems strange that your missions folder is empty. There should be a "shooting range" mission there. I'm not at home just now but I'll try to have a look later. I used that mission and the manual to learn start up (which I have forgotten). I used it to learn to fly and to target weapons. The deployment campaign is teaching me to fight

First of all, save the track right after you flew the mission. If you forgot that, you might still be lucky and fetch the previous flight and the one before that from your Ka-50 installation directory, subfolder Temp, the files are called LastMissionTrack.trk and _LastMissionTrack.trk.

When posting here on the forums, there are additional options below the Message window (you may have to "Go Advanced" if you use the quick reply). I think "Manage Attachments" is pretty self explanatory once you know it's there. :-)

Just ask if you need further help uploading tracks.

There should definitely be several files in the Ka-50 installation directory, subfolder Missions. Shooting gallery should be a filed by the name of "Shooting Gallery.miz" right there in that folder. If it isn't there, you should probably reinstall the game.

A good source for (training) missions is the "Missions and Campaigns" sub-forum. For example, DRAGONs TRAININGSPACK features a nice set of training missions with various degrees of complexity.

One more thing, because I'm not sure whether or not you were referring to that. In version 1.0.2 the "Training" button in the Sim's main menu doesn't work anymore. That can be fixed with a little work, however. This post describes how to do it, it's item 6 in the list.

Forgot that managing attachments requires the "Advanced" window.

It's empty. I downloaded this off of Steam, so perhaps that's the problem, but I do have a copy coming in the mail so I'll have to see if they are there. How do these missions work? Do they take you step-by-step through what is needed, as the videos do? The way I learned startup was by repeatedly watching the training vids over and over again, pausing, and taking notes. Same thing here?

Just being able to start this baby up is an awesome feeling, even though it's abbreviated. I think I'll be throwing a party after my first tank kill. :D I love this game.

Yea, nothing. I'll try to reinstall.

That training pak is just what I'm looking for, thanks! Says it only works with 1.02, I've not yet patched it yet. Kind of obvious, but I assume I place it in the missions folder?

Thanks all for the help! :)

Unfortunately, the missions are largely without instructions as to how to do things. Some are just good for practicing techniques.

I found this very useful:

Edit: and my first Vikhr kill was only this week. Yet to be a tank, but I'm only a couple of missions into the campaign.

Yup, that's right.

You can also use ModMan to install it, it'll put the files in the right place. It's not necessary for the mission pack, but ModMan is extremely powerful if you choose to install other mods.

I uninstalled my Steam version and installed my hardcopy, and for some strange reason there are now missions. Wonder what happened....I wouldn't imagine they'd release two different versions, but they weren't there. Maybe something on my PC inadvertently removed them?

Sounds very strange, but I'm glad you got it sorted. Now enjoy!

I don't know about you, but I feel like I'm missing a trick learning this whilst everyone else is now playing in the 'hog. Possibly even stupider that I bought DCS A10. I just need to find a good setup for the x52! Then again I had black shark for about 8 months before I really took the time with it, and now I can't get enough!

you can do what I have been doing. That is, I play the Georgian Oil War campaign and then save the trks. Turn them into MP Co-Op missions.
