PhiXX Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 The turret flies away because the stored rounds carousel is inside it. I guess it doesn't even matter where the munition exactly is, as long as there are no blowhatches (or hatches left open) the liftened turret should be the way of least resistance. Nothin better than cookin' a tank :D smells like popcorn...
jpm1 Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 hope not repost . mission duration was .. 3 days ? http://www.militaryphotos.net/forums/showthread.php?196178-Todays-Photos-Friday-1st-April-Non-prank-version SU-25 missions [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
GGTharos Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 Depends. Attempts to cook M1's in this manner have resulted in failure :D I guess it doesn't even matter where the munition exactly is, as long as there are no blowhatches (or hatches left open) the liftened turret should be the way of least resistance. Nothin better than cookin' a tank :D smells like popcorn... [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda

Vekkinho Posted April 15, 2011 Posted April 15, 2011 He worked there for Austrian/Maltese oil company called VAOS (used to be Voest Alpine Oil Service but during '90s changed name to Value Added Oil Service) and was stationed at Mars El Brega, Ras Lanuf and Nafoora in period from 1987 thru Feb26th, 2011 when evacuated by RAF C-130 landing at Nafoora Airstrip. Airstrip was under construction for repairs so noone expected a Hercules landing there. First one that came was a RAF bird taking 50 workers (wintershall, Bonatti, VAOS, MAN) to Malta and the second Herc boarded remaining group of Europeans. Second Herc (the one my father was in was fired upon by local population (rebels). They also tried to puncture the tires but were beaten off by RAF/SAS servicemen on board of the aircraft. Hercs egressed 20m AGL over terrain and 10m ASL over Mediterranean. Too bad noone ('xcept reporters) wasn't allowed taking photos on board... He was a VAOS - Nafoora camp supervisor and now had to report all VAOS equipment losses to rebels and locals but also to ex-military personnel (who joined rebels) and rushed in with guns and RPGs and confiscated all they found worthy and broke all they couldn't carry. He was shocked to see familiar Libyan faces from local villages he cooperated with turning hostile over night plundering what they lived off. Last camp he supervised was VAOS Nafoora located at 29°15'39.68"E / 21°32'56.92"E (if you look at Google maps it's the one with grass field in between containers). I'll post some of his photos from Libya here although not related to topic of this thread for you to see if you wish! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

G-T40 Posted April 21, 2011 Posted April 21, 2011 I think what is going on in libya is very disturbing;and my humble prayer is that;it would soon be over.We hope for the best and that Libya will soon recover.Bonne chance!!!.
jpm1 Posted April 21, 2011 Posted April 21, 2011 yes 2 photographs have been killed in Lybia , one english and one american (very likely by loyalist forces) . Misrata in march (picked on that very nice blog) "Misrata 06.03 : the tanks are pounding the center of the city , near the radio center . we also hear lot of automatic weapons . say a inhabitant . forces loyalist to Gaddhafi are leading an assault with heavy weapons on that city , at 150 km est of Tripoli" SU-25 missions [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
