Sticky Posted March 19, 2011 Posted March 19, 2011 Gaddafi forces are attacking Benghazi now, with tanks and bombarding with artillery and mortar fire. The plane that was shot down in those pictures belonged to the opposition forces. They say it was shot down by gaddafis forces. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] My Sim/Game CV: Falcon 1,3,4. Gunship. Pilotasso Posted March 19, 2011 Posted March 19, 2011 PoAF is not going to do anything. The country will only send out "humanitarian" missions, as Libyan C-130's sit idle at our maintenance center. Got some of their engines next to my desk at work. And thats probably why we wont lift a finger to help. just surreal. 1 .
RvETito Posted March 19, 2011 Posted March 19, 2011 Here's a video of the plane being shot down from a Norwegian newspaper. http://www.vg.no/nyheter/utenriks/artikkel.php?artid=10083241 Seems like a MANPAD to me. "See, to me that's a stupid instrument. It tells what your angle of attack is. If you don't know you shouldn't be flying." - Chuck Yeager, from the back seat of F-15D at age 89. =RvE=
Sticky Posted March 19, 2011 Posted March 19, 2011 Seems like a MANPAD to me. They say now he may have been shot down by his own side (the pilot was on the opposition forces side), so MANPAD could have been it in that case. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] My Sim/Game CV: Falcon 1,3,4. Alfa Posted March 19, 2011 Posted March 19, 2011 Post photos, footage, reports, news, etc. in this thread. Its purpose is to collect in one place info of military operations that are/will be conducted in Libya. A little contribution of info regarding my country's role in the conflict, Late last night the Danish parliament approved the decision to send six F-16's(four for operational deployment and two reserve) to Italy in order to participate in the enforcement of a no-fly-zone over Libya. Immediately after a challenger jet with pilots and ground crew left for Italy in order to make preparations for the arrival of the F-16s, which in turn took off from Skrydstrup AFB at 06:00 this morning, so they should have arrived in Sicily by now. It is expected that our jets will be among the first to be ready for missions over Libya, but frankly the way events unfold at the moment the question is whether it is too late - at least the point to a no-fly-zone by itself seems to have long passed. Latest reports says that Libyan government forces are already moving into the suburbs of Benghazi, so my guess is that the missions may now be directed toward strikes on ground forces and installations outside Benghazi in order to try to halt or hamper the attack on the city. 1 JJ
mikoyan Posted March 19, 2011 Posted March 19, 2011 Did the pilot make it? looks like he ejected; unreal stuff; still a tragedy that we can't fix our problems without killing each other.
4c Hajduk Veljko Posted March 19, 2011 Posted March 19, 2011 I did not see a picture of open parachute. Also, it looks like to me that pilot ejected at very low altitude. mikoyan Posted March 19, 2011 Posted March 19, 2011 he ejected very low; what king of ejection seat is used on that mig? was it a mig-23 or 27?
DTWD Posted March 19, 2011 Posted March 19, 2011 http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-12794623 I don't think there is much choice now, get the jets up in AA mode and prepare for ground pounding by this evening. Regards [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

mig29movt Posted March 19, 2011 Posted March 19, 2011 I've found some information about Libya's armed forces on the German wiki (I know ...) - can anybody confirm that? tanks - 2025 piece: 200 T-72; (115 stored); 100 T-62 (70 stored); 500 T-55; (1.040 T-54/T-55 stored). SAM types: SA-5 Gammon (8 battalions) SA-7 Grail SA-8 Gecko (20) SA-9 Gaskin/ SA-13 Gopher (60) aircrafts: Su-35 (12x, ordered in 2010) Su-30 (4x, ordered in 2010) Do the Libyans have these modern fighters in operational service, yet? Are the Libyan armed forces a high threat for the coalition forces? How are the Libyan pilots and SAM operators trained? And what's with the Libyans navy - maybe the first targets to reach the Libyan airspace? kind regards, Fire Check this: http://rammstein.dfmk.hu/~s200/# and you'll see that only a few of the SA-5 battalions are operational, also some of the SA-3s were bombed during Operation El Dorado Canyon back in 1986... Once there was even one of the SA-5 launchers (abandoned) near Bengazhi on TV, maybe some rebels now how to handle them and if not they can destroy the radar stations connected to it. There was also an SA-3 battery on TV and there you could see that the radar was destroyed. Su-24MK (?) shot by rebel forces (just found it), pilot died, but the turbines pieces are clearly visible so it seems to be real and not just metal parts lying aorund Rebels using BM-21 Grad: [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Waiting to build a F/A-18C home-pit... ex - Swiss Air Force Pilatus PC-21 Ground Crew SFM? topol-m Posted March 19, 2011 Author Posted March 19, 2011 BBC is reporting Rafale fighters are over Libya right now. Uh without destroying the air defense first? That doesn`t sound very good  [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
EtherealN Posted March 19, 2011 Posted March 19, 2011 PoAF is not going to do anything. The country will only send out "humanitarian" missions, as Libyan C-130's sit idle at our maintenance center. Probably going to be the same with our air force, sadly. The supreme commander has seemed to make moves with the government to try to get permission to take part with 8 Gripen jets, but afaik there has been no political will to commit. I suspect the air force would love to get some "real" experience (they apparently did well at Red Flag a couple years ago, but who knows what the specific scenarios were like there).
