636_Castle Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 Plus isn't it kinda useless with a dedicated server system? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] How To Fix Your X-52's Rudder!
Dimebag1 Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 Plus isn't it kinda useless with a dedicated server system? Some kind of ability to chat with others outside of the game would be really great, and I know you'll probably say, just use an IM, but you really can't get the same sense of community that way. I miss having a common area where people can chat, organize things, and meet new people. That's not to say we can't do without it, but it would really help to unite the community. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
StrongHarm Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 Everyone's required to be in TS on my servers. I think this is important. It would be great if TS were integrated into the Radios! It's a good thing that this is Early Access and we've all volunteered to help test and enhance this work in progress... despite the frustrations inherent in the task with even the simplest of software... otherwise people might not understand that this incredibly complex unfinished module is unfinished. /light-hearted sarcasm

Boberro Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 In-built VoIP would be great, no need TS anymore - all people would talk as soon as they enter to the game. Well made in-build server browser with global chat, PMs, VoIP, who-is-where, friends ect could be awesome... About HL.... is it still alive? ;] Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... HISTORY! :D | Also to be remembered: FRENCH TANKS HAVE ONE GEAR FORWARD AND FIVE BACKWARD :D ಠ_ಠ ツ

deephack Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 Like Bengo said there is already TARS. Have you guys tried it? It's the only way to fly online in my opinion. Check it out here:- http://www.excessiveheadspace.com/tars/ https://www.youtube.com/user/deephack
Snoopy Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 How about TARS ? 99% of the time we use TARS over at the 1st....The only times I may not use TARS when I'm hosting is for a new pilot who may have issues getting it to work. Even then I try to work out their issues before the 1st LIFT mission. v303d Fighter Group Discord | Virtual 303d Fighter Group Website
StrongHarm Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 I use TARS as well. It is truly awesome. The topic is communication from a central area. That evolved into forced communication by making others use TS in servers... which evolved further into voice being integrated into the radios with no external app. It would be great if they used the TARS concept to integrate voice into radios in the sim. I can't use TARS when I leave my server open to the community, as I'd have to talk people through the installation of TARS when they join the server. It's a good thing that this is Early Access and we've all volunteered to help test and enhance this work in progress... despite the frustrations inherent in the task with even the simplest of software... otherwise people might not understand that this incredibly complex unfinished module is unfinished. /light-hearted sarcasm
A10FAN Posted March 29, 2011 Author Posted March 29, 2011 We also need chat rooms in server browser ASAP. Grimes Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 This thread makes me wonder what sort of data can be exported via lua to create a server monitor type of service. 636_Castle Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 (edited) Like Bengo said there is already TARS. Have you guys tried it? It's the only way to fly online in my opinion. Check it out here:- http://www.excessiveheadspace.com/tars/ Agreed. TARS is awesome. Built in VOIP on the radios would obviously be the best solution. Nothing wrong with TARS though, it'd just be easier. Edited March 29, 2011 by 636_Castle [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] How To Fix Your X-52's Rudder!

I do not miss hyperlobby at all. People tryying to fly a match and some a$$clown takes a spot and wont leave so you can fly. then you get all the nubs that wanna go in there and troll. Nope. Hyperlobby is not needed here. 1 Now where is that speed brakes control again? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
104th_Crunch Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 I do not miss hyperlobby at all. People tryying to fly a match and some a$$clown takes a spot and wont leave so you can fly. then you get all the nubs that wanna go in there and troll. Nope. Hyperlobby is not needed here. I agree. While sometimes you might have got something productive out of the chat, 90% of time it was just useless chatter. Look at COD, BF, they have no chat with their server browser. Regardless, whatever mulitplayer functions ED can build into the sim the better. Of course the hard work for TARs etc. is always appreciated.

636_Castle Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 ...and I know you'll probably say, just use an IM Nooo way. Not game friendly at all. // What about XFire though? I don't use it myself but I've heard it's compatible with just about everything. In-built VoIP would be great, no need TS anymore - all people would talk as soon as they enter to the game. S77th-konkussion Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 (edited) Might be time to look at in game comms again. I remember Nova's version of it was a major lag inducer, but that was ages ago. People were just beginning to transit to broadband in significant numbers.. At the time- even when most of us in \PR/ had high-speed- it still caused performance problems, so obviously it needed work just the same.. so Roger Wilco (and eventually TS late in the game) it was for much of our reign.. As far as HL goes-- other than the chat room benefits... buh-bye. :bye: Edited March 29, 2011 by S77th-konkussion [sIGPIC]http://forums.eagle.ru/attachment.php?attachmentid=43337&d=1287169113[/sIGPIC]
wickedfastball Posted April 5, 2011 Posted April 5, 2011 Agreed. TARS is awesome. Built in VOIP on the radios would obviously be the best solution. Nothing wrong with TARS though, it'd just be easier. And, to help our fellow DCS pilot and friend Headspace out, you can donate to keep the development of TARS going. TARS was built and is hosted on his own nickel. If we want to see additional features in TARS a few donations will go a long way! http://www.excessiveheadspace.com/tars/
Grimes Posted April 5, 2011 Posted April 5, 2011 An out of game server browser/chat lobby is a very powerful tool, dare I say its more useful than identical features built directly in the game. I say this because chances are a external browser/chat would be more likely to be used when players don't intend to be playing the game. For instance I might not be planning on playing, but I'd still like to be social in discussing the game. The right man in the wrong place makes all the difference in the world. joey45 Posted April 5, 2011 Posted April 5, 2011 Ask the people who make Hyperlobby. The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance. "Me, the 13th Duke of Wybourne, here on the ED forums at 3 'o' clock in the morning, with my reputation. Are they mad.." https://ko-fi.com/joey45
vihoo Posted April 5, 2011 Posted April 5, 2011 HL is a great idea for DCS community. For example, Il-2 players using hypper lobby are 'very close' to each other. ;) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] |Intel C2D E8400 @ 4.0 GHz|EVGA nForce 750i SLI|6 GB Kingston DDR2 1066 MHz|ASUS HD6970 2048x1152 23"|Saitek X52|TrackIR 5|...Doesn't matter... let's drink!
