mvsgas Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 (edited) Even the real pilots forget some things before landing, what do you guys think they forgot to do in this occasion? http://usaf.aib.law.af.mil/C-17A_AOR_30Jan09.pdf More stories http://usaf.aib.law.af.mil/indexFY09.html Edited April 20, 2011 by mvsgas To whom it may concern, I am an idiot, unfortunately for the world, I have a internet connection and a fondness for beer....apologies for that. YorZor Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 I wonder how often they 'forget' the before landing check-lists...

ED Team Groove Posted April 20, 2011 ED Team Posted April 20, 2011 If i remember correctly there is statistically one accident per year in the USAF where a pilot forgets to lower gear before landing. Saw that information in some article. Our Forum Rules: http://forums.eagle.ru/rules.php#en
BlackRazor Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 I certainly remember another accident where the crew forgot to lower the landing gear, it was a B1. You can read about it here. On 8 May 2006, B-1B (s/n 86-0132) from the 7th Bomb Wing, 9th Bomb Squadron, Dyess AFB, Texas, landed "gear-up" during recovery from an 11-hour ferry flight to the island of Diego Garcia. A resulting fire was quickly extinguished and the crew escaped through the top hatch with only a minor back injury to the co-pilot. The Air Force investigation concluded that the pilots disabled the aural tone generator circuit breaker which creates audible warning signals and then "forgot to lower the landing gear". The B-1B impacted and slid on the runway, causing approximately $8 million of damage to the aircraft and runway. Four days later the aircraft was raised and its landing gear deployed. The B-1B returned to normal service in 2007.
Druid_ Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 I knew a Jaguar pilot who forgot to completely close the canopy before taking-off. His nickname from then on was 'Cabriolet'. i7-7700K : 16Gb DDR4 2800 Mhz : Asus Mobo : 2TB HDD : Intel 520 SSD 240gb : RTX 2080ti: Win10 64pro : Dx10 : TrackiR4 : TM Warthog : ASUS ROG SWIFT PG348Q

Pretty awesome to look at when they get it right, downright embarrassing when they get it wrong  With the price of ammunition these days do not expect a warning shot.
104th_Crunch Posted May 21, 2011 Posted May 21, 2011 You learn a nasty swear word in French watching this Mirage pilot from within the pit forgetting his gear lol. http://www.ebaumsworld.com/video/watch/932504/
hassata Posted May 21, 2011 Posted May 21, 2011 it's a common party trick with fighter jocks What is, exactly? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
mvsgas Posted May 23, 2011 Author Posted May 23, 2011 there not supose to be have some kind of WoW switch? Suppose to prevent this but, but if you read the report pilot did not have full weight on wheels (WOW). He pull the nose and raise LG handle before applying full throttle IIRC. As soon as the AIB websites comes back up, I will see if I can post a link to the report To whom it may concern, I am an idiot, unfortunately for the world, I have a internet connection and a fondness for beer....apologies for that. Kaiza Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 I think he means the trick where by you raise the gear handle on the takeoff roll while still rolling, and let the WoW switch raise the gear as soon as you get airborne. Pretty oldschool cowboy trick.
