Spyros Posted April 21, 2011 Posted April 21, 2011 I think the first flight sim I ever played was Flight Simulator on a friend's IBM (the one that looked like a luggage and had a tiny yellow screen). She said she had a game in which you could fly an airplane but she couldn't figure out how to take off. I managed to take off (out of pure luck probably) and then we just flew around spotting things on the ground, like people rowing on rivers etc. I bet those were supposed to be something else though! :) Then I played a lot of ACE on the Spectrum and even more Falcon and Combat Pilot on the Amiga. I think I've probably played almost every flight sim released on those machines, but nothing on PCs in the 90s since I first got a PC in 2000, because the job required it. One day I was at a friends house and skimmed through one of his PC magazines. Just as I was getting bored, I came accross an article about a Russian flight sim. You can probably imagine the culture shock of jumping from Tornado and the unfinished Amiga version of TFX, to Lockon. :D God forgives... Spyros doesn't.
pitbldr Posted April 21, 2011 Posted April 21, 2011 (edited) First civie sim - Microsoft (SubLogic?) Flight Simulator 2.0. Ran it from a 5.25" floppy on a IBM PCjr. That thing did not even have a hard drive. It ran off a cartridge. :) http://www.mobygames.com/game/pc-booter/microsoft-flight-simulator-v20/screenshots First "combat" sim - Jet also by subLogic http://www.mobygames.com/game/jet/screenshots Man, that was a looong time ago! :D Edited April 21, 2011 by pitbldr

MemphisBelle Posted April 21, 2011 Posted April 21, 2011 As I remember back so my very very first one was a Harrier Game...I will not call it Flight Simulator. The name was somethings with Jump jet, I played it on my cousines PC which was a Schneider. later when we got a C-64 I played some games like Fighter Bomber, Birds of Prey, Interceptor and such a stuff. I liked that pretty much though and spended a lot of time with that. Later we got Ace of Aces. A nice split screen pvp Game on C-64...the start screen music was from the movie "the Boat". I sometimes playd F-16 Flacon on an Friendfs Amiga and was so much jealous about that awesome game, while I "only" had Fighter Bomber...nice. Then I had no pc for a long time, I used to play Playstation and havent played Flightsims for a long time, exept the ACE Combat series on Playstation 1. Then in June 2001 I got my first PC and i made a long dreamed dream become realized...to buy myself a Flightsim what I ever wanted to have. So my first one was F-18 Hornet and later the Corea F-18. I loved that game. The 3D Cockpit...that was cool. thinking back, I actually loved all of these games BlackSharkDen | BSD Discord | DCS Tutorial Collection

Pilotasso Posted April 21, 2011 Posted April 21, 2011 Played F-15 strike eagle and F-19 on a friends computer back in 1990, then 3 years later I had a PC of my own. My first game was actually a space SIM, wing commander II. My first SIM if my memory doesnt fail me was DOGFIGHT by micropose. Many followed soon, the most notable ones were F-29 Retaliator, falcon 3 GOLD, strike commander, F-22TAW, Falcon 4, and now LOMAC and DCS series. .

Malleus Posted April 22, 2011 Posted April 22, 2011 My first sim was TFX, but I didn't really understand it back then (didn't know enough english). The first sim I actually really got into was F-22 Air Dominance Fighter and subsequently Total Air War, and I still say it's one of the best air combat sim game out there.
