k0braka1 Posted November 15, 2013 Posted November 15, 2013 Metacritic reviews don't look great so far. No joystick support seems like a poor decision and low framerate even on high end machines is worrying. Wont necessarily stop me from buying but not a great start Intel i5-4670k @ 4.4 ghz | Corsair H100i | Gainward GTX 760 Phantom (overdue an upgrade) | Asus Maximus VI Gene MBoard | 8gb Corsair Vengeance | 3 x Sandisk/Crucial SSD's | Corsair AX760 PSU | Saitek X45 (ftw!)
Chris1012 Posted November 15, 2013 Posted November 15, 2013 No framerate issues for me, but the joystick support is horrible. Pair of footpedals plugged, in couldn't distinguish between the foot pedals and the joystick. Removed the footpedals, whenever any input is detected (even tiny variation on any axis) the mouse input is disabled. Doesn't support movement on two devices at once (be it joystick and pedals, joy and throttle or joy and mouse) my advice, don't play this today. You'll only end up frustrated. Wait a couple of weeks. Chris1012 Posted November 15, 2013 Posted November 15, 2013 (edited) +Nothing particularly expensive / overclocked AMD FX8 4.0Ghz, Gigabyte 990 moboard, single HIS 7790 and 10gb of generic ram running off a 1tb non-ssd HDD. Runs 8XAA, high settings 1600x900 resolution. Graphics in X Rebirth are on par (so far) with Mass Effect, 1. Lighting seems particularly bad. Plugged in with a Xbox gamepad in the end, which at least works. Been pushing through and trying to play and it is shockingly buggy. Ships appear out of nowhere and disappear as quickly. In high congested area's they just plough right into each other. Asteroids appear in front of you without warning. multiple very large objects are placed close to gate / highway exits (presumably so the xbox people don't have to spend silly time actually flying to places) making the whole scene jumbled and claustrophobic. Not so impressed with the 'land on capital ships' thing (wait, if I am paying you to be the captain, why are you always leaning against that box?? shouldn't you be driving this thing?) Ship area for the title ship, Albion Skunk (Seriously??) is two low resolution rooms. No interaction other than a button to get back to flying. Voice acting sounds like English is a second language to the actors. I'll keep playing to see if it gets better. Edited November 15, 2013 by Chris1012 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Why yes, I did just crash...
Simas Posted November 15, 2013 Posted November 15, 2013 Reminds me of the X3: Reunion release.. Egosoft is known for buggy releases,. The only games that are playable at release were expansions (X3: TC and X3: AP).
Aginor Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 Well, I also played it for some hours now. I don't like the controls all that much but I configured them so it works now. I'm using a joystick for fights and otherwise the keyboard and mouse. I am disappointed by the dialogues a bit, especially by the speech. There are lots of lines missing, even those of the main characters (at least in my German version) so you have to read the subtitles in the middle of the battle, and the characters don't exactly look good... Gameplay-wise it is not great but ok. Now I'm only facing the problem that I'm supposed to dock somewhere (to get some microchips IIRC but that's only what I remember, there is nothing in the log, just "dock with blablastation") but the station is hostile... We'll see. There is already the third patch downloading. I'll give the game a chance, since I still had fun with it in the last five hour. DCSW weapons cheat sheet speed cheat sheet
ZMEY-HS- Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 I'm a bit dissapointed.:( After few thousands hours of X3, rebirth feels like some degraded casual fps. Where is ship classification? I never got it, why m6 is bigger than m3, but less than m2. And now there is no any classifification at all? Poor interface instead of property and ship consoles, probably, is the most annoying thing for me. And equipment...wth, no more headache with "what should i fit - 8 CIG or 4 CIG and 4 PBG?". This new "plug&play" thingy realy oppresses me. And, ofcourse, a thought of being strapped to this skunky tin can for the rest of my days is killing me...
VanjaB Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 (edited) Ok I bit the bullet. Im liking it so far. No major showstopper bugs (only played about an hour or so). Im playing the game on HIGH shaders and Shadows & SAOO ON. I have to say that the graphics are very impressive so far. I like the "Skunk" designation. I even like the NPC interaction, if youve played any of the Egosoft games before its a major step in the right direction. The dialogue and animations are clunky and funny but its all part of Egosofts thing. One thing that bothers me a bit is the limited FOV in the cockpit. I would like to be able to look around while flying since it has a beautiful and very large screen and we are only limited to half of it while flying and navigating. Fun so far. Aginor Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 Ok, maybe I'm dumb, but I don't get it: How the f*** do I command a ship to fly somewhere? I don't want it to trade or something, just to fly to a certain sector. That was so easy in all the former games, in X:R I'm not able to do it. DCSW weapons cheat sheet speed cheat sheet
VanjaB Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 They removed the autopilot functionality from the Skunk I think. You can however command your other ships, they need a crew first though obviously. Just play the campaign missions it will teach you all the basic command functions of the game.
mrniel Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 (edited) My dislikes so far, 2 hours of play. Setting up Warthog Joystick, Very very difficult, in the end i got yaw, pitch and throttle to work. forget about rudder input., not possibel. Nor can you assign any of the buttons on you'r Hotas to anything. Cockpit. Only straight ahead look, no looking to left or right or any other direction. No outside views or monitors like in the old games. It seems to me that in order to make it possible to play with a x-box controller ( prolly soon to be on xbox ) they had to throw out a lot of funtions, so they have dumbed down the entire game. Now, Microsoft Flight comes to mind, dumbed down to appeal more to the xbox generation, thought they could sell more that way, and look what happned to that enterprise. They simply forgot what segment of players that buy those games. Maps are confusing and without any zoom funtion. UI system confusing, and set up again to be used with xbox controller. I loved all the previous gamed in the X series, but so far i really am very dissapointed. The Graphics are however beautiful. Hopefully they can fix some of the problems with patches. UPDATE Went to Steams forum and saw a egosoft thread stating update plans: SO they do plan to add outside looks, and also to look around in the cockpit. with either POV hat or oculus Also zoom will be added to the maps. Improved Joystick support planned. UI improvements and a bunch of other stuff. PHEW getting hope back. Edited November 16, 2013 by mrniel update
Aginor Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 Me too. I really want to like that game because I loved the other ones. I can't help being disappointed though. Even with vast improvements that could be possible this is another type of game, not the one I loved and waited for. Really sad. But I'm going to go on and at least play the whole campaign and then wait. There are things in the game I like after all. DCSW weapons cheat sheet speed cheat sheet
Axion Posted November 17, 2013 Posted November 17, 2013 Slightly OT but which is the best X game in the series prior to this release? Asus Z390 Code XI, i9-9900K, RAM 32 Gig Corsair Vengeance @ 3200, RTX 2080 TI FE, TIR 5, Samsung 970 EVO 1TB, HOTAS WH, ASUS ROG Swift PG279Q, HTC Vive Pro, Win 10 x64
VanjaB Posted November 17, 2013 Posted November 17, 2013 Hard to say. I found all the X games to be very technical and complicated. Overly so. Unlike our beloved DCS flight sim, its not that satisfying learning all the ins and outs. At least it wasnt for me. I actually like this new take with Rebirth. It is simplified and its buggy as hell and missing a lot of features but they will patch it all in at some point. The combat is the best Ive seen in the series, it still leaves a lot to be desired, its no Tie Fighter or X Wing but at least the 'feel' is there. Something I felt was missing in the previous games.
