PvP in the A-10 is just plain dumb....I'll leave it at that.

Another night, another full list of servers except for an empty one in Brazil (with a high ping no less). The other 9 are locked.

 

I'm kind of at a loss here, I think locking the community out of multiplayer over fears of griefing that good admins can take of only serves to harm the community. I'd rather have a place to play and get teamkilled than have to just exit out and play another game instead.

Mine had a harddrive failure sometime last week while I was gone. I was not able to get it completely restored today. It should be fully working Monday mid day. I simply ran out of time today while I was at the server location.

Everyone that has issues with locked servers....why don't you host one?

True:thumbup: we've got a few guys in the V squadron I'm part of that have this issue. I wonder if people are aware that anyone, if their rig is good enough, can host a server.

 

Well, it's not just the rig, if you wan't to host for more than just 1 or 2 players, your connection should have enough bandwith to handle the traffic.

Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two.

Fixed I think. I didn't have a chance to verify. The server usually lasts 48 hours before crashing. I try to restart it daily when it is empty so nobody notices, but I have been out of town and unable to check on it as frequently. Soon I will invest time to update my rotating program to detect crashes and relaunch the server when I have more time after I get back.

 

Tried to go to your website but my antivirus software blocked it.

Not a measure of success of a VFS, a measure of success of a MP server that is meant to be enjoyed by people as much as possible to expand the community. Of course that is one squad's objective, and we know others, such as yourself have other goals. Like highly detailed co-op with no shmucks around to mess it up.

I am going to kick myself in the ass for agreeing with Kuky, but I said the same thing as Kuky (now I am kicking my ass lol). Yes, you can fight PvP in A-10, but it is not designed for A2A and is severely limited in that regard. Real PvP will be with Fighter Jets, and as MoGas stated, you want to encourage friendly competition and a strong player base with PvP. I am fairly confident, once we have DCS:Fighter, the number of unlocked servers will increase.

 

Yep, for sure. The A-10C is certainly no A2A aircraft by any stretch of the imagination, but to say that PvP can't be done in it is almost ridiculous. We do that most nights and infact have an event soon with =STP=:

this is a Pvp event and this specific Mission lends itself very well to it.

 

In the end though there are pros and cons for locking servers. We all have our preferences.

Highlight the server. Check the actual mission description. 90% of them have Teamspeak details in the mission description. GET on Teamspeak and 'ask'!!!!

 

My own server has the Teamspeak details, IP, Port and password in the mission description!

 

You could always serve one yourself, open of course, and see what happens. The missions with the sim are perfectly good for it.

Ah, I see. PvP in terms of competing mission goals. A little different than direct combat between players for ex. BVR, but still PvP and just as important. Nice work on the mission setup btw. Looks great.

I think alot of the fun that could have existed with TvT in DCS died off when battlefield commander was removed. Not that TvT scenarios can't exist, but such scenarios simply don't play to the advantages of the sim. Just look at that Capure the flag mission from BlackShark, its a great example of complex mission design, but it had a "lul wut?" reception.

The right man in the wrong place makes all the difference in the world.

I found a good way to combat teamkillers the other night. Teamkill them as they're harassing the runways, and keep them grounded. The server was approaching dusk and was set up where the A-10s were already up and running. Once the TK respawned I'd see his new lights pop, and could ground him over and over with the GAU-8. After awhile he gave up, although an admin came on and initially started kicking me thinking I was the culprit. :)

 

It was a good thing I was already in the air and at a mission point before he joined. Had I not shown up he probably would have kept people from taking off indefinitely.

Take pictures of the offender, take pictures of the current player list and make note of your local time. Then you must report the incident to the server owner, usually this information is provided in server breafing.

That sure would have helped, I mean letting the guy run rampant for the 30+ mins it took for the admin to come on from the time it started. I was the only one left in the air, came back, took care of the guy. He managed to get back up once, kept it up, and I kept him down for the rest of the mission. I continued to peg him on the ground because he started trying to jam up the runway.

 

No regrets, I had fun playing the server policeman while the admin was away. I'm sure the teamkiller was pretty annoyed by the fact he wasted close to 30 minutes after starting his spree trying to get back in the air. He even tried takeoffs from the taxi lanes.
