BBQ Posted July 24, 2011 Posted July 24, 2011 (edited) This is a single player mission--the first in a possible future campaign, if there is substantial interest. I encourage critisism/critique. I did the V/O's myself--but if enough interest is shown, would probably get some actors involved for future missions. http://files.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/84751/ From the briefing: This is a prototype mission for a possible future campaign. Having read "A-10s Over Kosovo" from Air University Press, and Ed Macy's "Apache: Inside the Cockpit of the World's Most Deadly Fighting Machine", I was inspired to create a campaign that, as closely as possible, recreates the atmosphere of the CAS pilots as described in those books. I wouldn't have thought it possible if it were'nt for what, IMHO, is the reigning champ of all of the DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark campaigns, The Vergeev Group. I highly recommend both the Ka-50 sim, and The Vergeev Group campaign. It's the closest to reality that most of us will ever get. The intro mission involves tactical formation flying, refueling, and an introduction to the theatre of operations. Edited July 27, 2011 by BBQ
FlyingBrick Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 Ugly 1-2:lol: Thanks for the mission, my first time trying to fly formation and boy do I need work! Sure hope you find the time to build the campaign, it sounds really interesting.
GoonerTC Posted July 29, 2011 Posted July 29, 2011 Just a quick one BBQ, once your leader has joined and broken off from the tanker are we suppose to follow him, I was AAR and got a message saying get back in formation? how do we also know that the mission is successful PM if theres a spoiler Its a good mission and very well done, really looking forward to further installments of this series
BBQ Posted July 29, 2011 Author Posted July 29, 2011 GoonerTC--I'm trying to get rid of that message--thanks for the comments!
BBQ Posted July 29, 2011 Author Posted July 29, 2011 Next mission coming soon--you guys should like it. Suicide bomber trucks have been trying to hit DC Zayu--you've got to hit inbound truck with LGB--AFAC lases target for you.
BluesmanSF Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 GoonerTC--I'm trying to get rid of that message--thanks for the comments! So that means that you ARE supposed to refuel? I just followed the leader back to base, although I thought I were supposed to refuel too. =D Anyways, good mission indeed, great voice-overs and the it had a great feeling, due to the beautiful sunset! Thanks alot! 6S_Blues
BBQ Posted August 3, 2011 Author Posted August 3, 2011 I updated the first mission--yes, you have to refuel for a successful mission--but once you pass Zayu on the way back, I've included another voiceover about rejoining with tanker. At that point, you no longer are required to stay in formation, and go full mil power to tanker. AI lead hits tanker first, then you refuel, and then RTB for a visual approach. Thanks for comments guys!

BBQ Posted August 3, 2011 Author Posted August 3, 2011 Thanks WarriorX--I enjoy all your tutorials! I'm doing some more research before I post any more missions in my proposed campaign--currently reading The Soviet -Afghan War, How A Superpower Fought and Lost, and A Nightmare's Prayer about a harrier pilot's CAS experience in Afghanistan, and a comprehensive military history of Afghanistan, the title of which, eludes me at the moment.
PB0KGM_Foxy Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 I played both of your missions and I've liked them so much. The first one is excellent to get a good immersion and to be in the context. The second one is pretty good too but I was a little bit too late to kill the truck (20 s late :( ) and after that, the AFAC just told me to go back to home. Maybe the timing is a little bit too small to complete the kill of the truck.I saw it just after coordinates transfer but I've waited to spot it with the LSS mode of the TGP ( I wanted to be sure that it was not a civilian truck :D) keep up the good work I can't wait for the other missions of the campaign  SYSTEM SPECS: I7 9700K @ 5Ghz - 32 Gb RAM @ 3200 - RTX 2080 super - 970 EVO Plus NVMe M.2 - Windows 10 pro - HOTAS Warthog - HP Reverb

If I remember correctly, I wanted to give the player time enough for two passes on the target before it blows.
FlyingBrick Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 I took me a few tries to make it to the truck before it blew up. Turns out my start up procedures were just slow, it is an emergency after all! I had plenty of time to use LSS function(first time btw:D) as long as I got in the air quickly. Fun missions, hope to see some more!
Boomer Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 Great job with both missions, I had some quality time playing them. Thanks! Wishlist: DCS: MiG29M/CMT | DCS: MiG25/31 | DCS: MiG-23MLD | DCS: F16CJ
toby23 Posted August 10, 2011 Posted August 10, 2011 Is this compatible with 1.1.0.9? Spoiler Alert I tried Greenzone 1 last night (d/l 2 wks ago) and after a rushed start-up (2 mins more would have been nice!) and take-off, I followed Lead to WP3 with nothing happening on the way... Whereupon he pulled some crazy moves to turn 180 and then flew back, via WP2, to WP1. Then he shot off to the Tanker, which I couldn't track via Tacan, refuelled and disappeared. Am I missing something really important? Thanks for making this. I was also really inspired to try some real life missions after reading Fire/Strike 9/7 and Warthog by W.Smallwood. Pfadfinder Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 .. A reality based campaign is just what we need.. ! Amen! I really love your missions, one of the few which feel just real and not like a game, cant wait for the next missions! But one is a really problem for me, is it possible that you start up really fast? I use PaulRKIII Checklist and try to do it as real as possible and i have no chance to be ready when leader rolls in Mission 1 or to be in time to destroy the tank in mission 2. Would it be possible to make a version of your missions with a little more time? Lt. Jake Grafton: "Fighter pukes make movies. Bomber pilots make... HISTORY!"
LiveBait Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 Enjoyed both missions and am eager for the 3rd installment, thanks BBQ. @ toby23 this is the intro flight. Lead should have been communicating to you through-out the flight, looks like your not getting this. @Pfadfinder look here. Ive based a scramble statup based on Speeds post and evolved it to suite the current build. My first flight(greenzone2) i was having coffee and donuts with the ground crew while starting up. Completely missed the urgency of the matter and was told to RTB just after wpt1. Second time round, i scrambled and had no problems.
Kaitsu Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 Tried #1 last night and I think lead begins his startup right when mission starts but does not ask you to do the same (you could fix that?). If you wait until he stops speaking you are way too late. If you begin your startup procedure too at the mission start you should be fully aligned when lead is on the move.
Pfadfinder Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 Yea sure if i start right at the beginning and make a quick start up it fits but if i do a realistic start up there is no way in hell to make it in time. Just sayin it is a pity if i have a mission which feels real but forces me to do a unrealistic start up. Lt. Jake Grafton: "Fighter pukes make movies. Bomber pilots make... HISTORY!"
