bloomstomb Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 Before you get the Video Card of your budget. Take a look at this new company with an interesting business model on that subject. Video Card Leasing. It is an interesting concept considering I have several old video cards in a box in the garage, I have to admit it is worth contemplation at least. Infinite upgrades on top of the line video cards. Only the top of the line high end video cards. http://www.cuttingedgegamer.com/index.html wow that is interesting !
Migo Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 easy overclock to 4800mhz on water Use the i5 2500k, overclocking tests showed it performs better/equal on high overclocking. That means a cheaper i5 2500k will need less/same voltage than the i7 2600k to reach the same clock 4.8ghz for example.
ChrisIhao Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 Ok, a month ago I had only Lockon (original) and a few other sims as I had been on the ED starforce fence for several years. This last month I have bought Flaming cliffs 2, Black Shark, A10c, a 21.5" touchscreen, joyloc clamps (had to pay a lot in customs) and a Saitek Quadrant. So yeah, I can sympathize. Hehe. Its a whooole lot of fun though  Use the i5 2500k, overclocking tests showed it performs better/equal on high overclocking. That means a cheaper i5 2500k will need less/same voltage than the i7 2600k to reach the same clock 4.8ghz for example. Yeah, the only real reason for going 2600k is hyperthreading, but you probably wont use that much anyways. Username455 Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 NeedtoKow - I just got the basic ASUS P8P67 board as I didnt need the extra slots for SLI. I think all new ASUS boards have that new bios now that makes overclocking a breeze. and I agree Migo, the i5 2500k will perform just as well as the i7 for most purposes (thats what I went with). Unless hyperthreading is something you need, go with i5 :) System: i7 920 @3.8ghz; GTX 560ti 448; 6gb DDR3 1600 ram; 750gb HDD; 750w PSU; Win7 64bit; x52 Pro; TrackIR 5

NeedToKow Posted August 2, 2011 Author Posted August 2, 2011 Yeah guys - I factored in the Hyperthreating for my choice. :smartass: My business is graphic design. So at any one time I run Photoshop CS5.5, Dreamweaver CS5.5, Browser, Outlook and at other times Premier and After Effects. So for just the game (outside of FSX) it would not be a real plus. And even with what I do it may only help 10-20 %....But I love overkill. I usually ripple 2 bombs instead of one...even if it is not needed.... But agree with i5 being fine choice also. The cool thing now, with my new home rig, is I can bring my work home instead of always working at the office....or wait, is that cool.....dang I am an idiot  "Character is much easier kept than recovered." NeedToKow Posted August 2, 2011 Author Posted August 2, 2011 IMO - It may be good to having HT enabled. Most of us will never use it, like if you are playing your favorite game (uses 2 cores) Teamspeak or vent (one core) and have your operating system (1 core) running, you have all 4 lanes with constant traffic. But what if you add TARGET, TrackIR, VAC, logictec mouse programing, MFDs... and some might even launch a web browser, have virus and video adapter programs (Nividia) or other stuff running - without HT, you would be trying to run it all on 4 full time cores only add HT and you open up some more slots. IMO, HT might be a good thing. :book: Not looking for an argument or saying anyone is wrong just thinking more about it. :) "Character is much easier kept than recovered." ChrisIhao Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 Well, I were going to suggest a Corsair PSU, and I see that you're already in love with Corsair :) This one is good for instance: http://www.komplett.no/k/ki.aspx?sku=623449. Perhaps go up one notch in power if your planning to crossfire at a later point. And yeah, if I were planning to run three monitors I would go for a really good gpu and not save a few dollars on that. Either that or crossfire two good but less powerful/expensive cards. Heck, I never even considered SLI'ing my oc'ed GTX580 until I realized the potential benefits in A-10c, and a potential extra screen to boot, much due to the desktop also functioning as an audio workstation. Now I just want to throw out everything else and get more power. Unfortunately my 580 is a triple decker :) State of the art flight sims really ARE in the front when it comes to pushing hardware, like it always has. No matter what you choose I'm sure you'll be happy about it. Good luck. My system: Win 10, Amd Ryzen 3700@stock GTX1080 Ti, 34" Asus G-sync ultrawide monitor, Ipad Air, 32 gigs of 3600 ram, complete CH HOTAS setup, Oculus Rift CV1/Trackir5 and a Saitek Quadrant Been simming since the Commodore 64. Rusty_M Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 I know what you mean. June last year, I found out how my laptop ran flaming cliffs 2 and decided to save and build a PC. The one in my sig was put together in January. I had nothing, not even mouse or kb or case to start with, so had to put it all together. I'm still saving for the HOTAS warthog and some pedals. And I thought the X52 was a stretch financially! Building a gaming PC was worth it though. I even think it helped me get a promotion! The world is going mad. Me? I'm doing fine! http://www.twitch.tv/rusty_the_robot https://www.youtube.com/user/RustyRobotGaming

ChrisIhao Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 I love Norway! I flew over it for many, many hours in EF2000. :) My condolences for the recent tragedy and I hope you and yours were safe. Thanks. Yeah, fortunately nothing happened to anyone I know personally. Its just so over the top that you dont really relate to it on a day to day basis. I live just beside Oslo so its pretty close though. Oh, and EF2000! Man, did you wake up some memories with that one. Dont even remember what joystick I had at the time. Think it was a MS Wingman. Also pretty much messed around in that game, but DiD was a great software developer. Flying stealth missions at night in TFX, dropping laser guided bombs was a really satisfying experience. :D My system: Win 10, Amd Ryzen 3700@stock GTX1080 Ti, 34" Asus G-sync ultrawide monitor, Ipad Air, 32 gigs of 3600 ram, complete CH HOTAS setup, Oculus Rift CV1/Trackir5 and a Saitek Quadrant Been simming since the Commodore 64.
