Not my cup of tea personaly. But...I love to see advancements in all kinds of simulators. The "Cockpit" GFX look very nice + click-able cockpit, best thing to happen to sims since......sims I guess :D .

Though, I often find it odd with even modern train sims, how lacking the external terrain is. I would have thought, given the view perspective, that they could be using vegetation equivalent to Arma2 by now?

Still looks pretty nice though, ty for the news.

Specs: GA-Z87X-UD3H, i7-4770k, 16GB, RTX2060, SB AE-5, 750watt Corsair PSU, X52, Track IR4, Win10x64.

I'm going to have to check if there's a demo for that. I'm not convinced a train sim is my thing, but it sure would be interesting to try.

Looks to be as much fun as playing with a one-ton pillow. Can someone do a side-to-side comparison? :D

ED have been taking my money since 1995. :P

I kinda like they marketing model - engine update for free, compatibile with previous content. New content optional via DLC or a discounted package.

Have you looked at the cost and quantity of DLC? This is just a partial list for 2012.

Yes, they even have Zombies (and it's cheap @ $4.99)!

Noonne is forcing you to buy them, the base game has enough content to keep you entertained for a while. After that you can choose tracks/engines you prefer, that's much better way then releasing an TS iteration each year for full price with new tracks/engines, half of which you have no interest in.

And I don't see this approach to be different from DCS World. Would you complain if DCS World had that amount of modules to choose from? I certainly wouldn't.

Since I know absolutely nothing about the content of the base game, or the DLC, I can't speak to the value contained therein. However, when you consider that your aren't really in a pure 'sandbox' environment since you must follow the tracks, I wonder just how much replay value there is in the base package.

I have no issues about spending the money for something that I consider to be of value (don't ask how much I have invested into FSX :P) and I am sure the stuff sells quite well. It's just that...well...it's just a train stuck on the tracks. ;)

You get your money worth (especially when on sale, I got my copy of railworks 2 for 5 euros), the stock tracks are good and offer wide variety of sceneries, american mountan passes, urban areas, steam-era europe, and they are very detailed. You get also a good variety of engines - diesel, eletric, steam, freight operation, passengers operations etc...

Each track has a free-roam mode and a good amount of scenarios.

It has a scenario and track editor. The plugins for 3D Studio Max and Photoshop are free to download from the developers page. So, it's as sanbox as a train sim can be.

Ofc, it's a niche market and will get you bored if you are not into trains. You have to stick to rails, but the underlaying motivation why to play it is basically the same as the motivation behind passenger/freight operations in FSX. Operating a multiton machine withing it's operational limits while observing track rules, passenger confort/cargo safety and timetable (and enjoying the furnitue shaking to the subwoofer when you rev up your engine :D).

I don't like Auran's attitude. They produce every year new Trainz which in sense doesn't differ from previous release.

I had 2004. Then 2006. Then 2009. Then 2010. I saw no significant changes. I could run again Trainz 2004 and got very similar play to the newer versions :)

Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... HISTORY! :D | Also to be remembered: FRENCH TANKS HAVE ONE GEAR FORWARD AND FIVE BACKWARD :D

That's why I think Train Simulator 2012/Railworks is much better than Auran's Trainz.

any marketing model featuring paid dlcs but no modding ability is hugely disrespectful to the customer.

Are you kidding? Train Sim 2012 is extremely moddable. There is integrated map editor (quite easy to use), 3ds max tools, relatively good SDK documentation, and now they are adding Steam Workshop.

Thanks for the info. I must admit that it does look really nice.

I picked up Train Simulator 2012 during the Steam summer sale a month ago (when it was going for like 2 dollars or something). It isn't exactly my cup of tea, and I wouldn't really say that it's 'fun' exactly, but I must admit that there's something very relaxing about tootin' around the tracks in the early morning. And I learned some stuff about the way trains work, like how the train will brake to a stop if the conductor doesn't respond to the signal lights in time. Very interesting.

looks like a very peaceful yet stressful (much less stressful than getting an error in the a-10c) simulator and one that idk why I just want to try very badly lol. Trains are cool and all but the amount of DLC is just crazy. Maybe i'll pickup a dlc package around the holidays.

If anyone feels like getting addicted to this absolutely hilarious series of the zombie mod checkout this first of five videos below.

You don't need a dlc pack, the stock game has enough content to keep you entertained for a while. The integration of steamworks offers nearly limitless supply of user-made scenarios (for free ). More then enough to try out if it is your thing or not.

Then you can pickup some DLCs with the content you enjoy the most.

Yea, that's exactly what I'm thinking. I did see your earlier comments too, I just have never seen a game with more DLC than this one (just an observation, not a pro/con).

I was also checking out the steam workshop for this game and it looks like it's pretty populated with good content like you mentioned. I just know most deals are the same around Christmas time on steam if not better in some cases, so I'll probably just wait it out until then.
