WarthogSmurf Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 Arma 2 has a much smaller scale than a flight simulator. . Look at Take On Helicopters. Thats the "Heli Sim" based on ARMA but with improved flight model (not accurate enough yet to call a real sim tho) But ARMA is best suited for helicopter mission and not for fixed wing. If you take the a-10 in ARMA 2 and take off you reach the end of the map in mere seconds. Even in TOH they decreased the roads to improve FPS. But what I am wondering about the Nevada Map is there a story attached to it other then being the training area ? (saw that BS 2 can get the addon too so russian invasion in USA ? .. nick named the russian gamblet ?)
kharne Posted December 31, 2011 Posted December 31, 2011 ED.... with the new engine can you please change the 1990's explosion and dynamic fx? Please see the above video. That is how it should be. Debris...lighting.... smoke...fire.... I think this is the most unchanged feature since the first Lock On released. I have to agree here. Yes, I understand that a flight sim can't look like Battlefield 3 (yet!) or Arma 2 due to the MUCH larger scale, but the explosions really do look outdated. DCS A10 is still an incredible sim, and it's my favorite flight/combat simulator so far. But a *little* more eye candy when we let lose with the GAU-8 or when a bomb takes out a building would go a long way.

Demongornot Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 Its really nice but what about make photorealism texture ? Cause yeah the new terrain are really nice but an important aspect that we always forget its the color...The color of the texture are so many time (for every games) not really good, that always look plastic... I don't talk about make bigger texture or anything, i talk about texture with the SAME resolution (i insist here before everyone told my that its impossible) but based of real life photography... ? Look here : Aerofly one of the most advanced RC sim have do the same thing the real size aircraft (with one of the more complex and advanced wind/turbulence/thermal and other weather ever The texture of this new sim its at 100% in photorealism cause based on real photography... We have also great ground 3D object with good detail and the terrain its the full Swiss with really long visual range (i prevent if anyone will told me something about the distance...) I don't talk about the 3D (it look just really nice for Nevada) but about texture, we just need to take texture from google earth or if ED don't want from several photo, sand texture from sand picture, rock texture from rock picture and same thing for everything... Cause actually the rock model add new 3D object its nice but the texture are not really perfect that don't look like a rock matter... Please can you considerate that for Nevada ? And maybe one day for actual map too ! Newt Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 (edited) Wow, the scenery there DOES look really good... I would almost buy it since it has an F/A-18. But, it doesn't look like it is modeled anywhere close to DCS standards. I don't think that the cockpit is fully functional even... Ouch. And I think that that sim even has the wings bending. I would love to see that happen in a DCS sim. It's one of the main things I remember from the first time I was ever on a plane and it still is one thing I always look for despite seeing it many times now. I don't know why, I just am always in awe over it. It makes the air seem, real and fluid. Like the plane isn't just flying through nothing, but a real force. Like it really is :P Edited January 4, 2012 by Newt Live every week like it's Shark Week. :D
Jona33 Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 As long as you don't use sat photography for the towns and end up with a 2d low res walmart roof painted on the floor. To be honest I thought Nevada looked a good terrain colour but I've never been there so I couldn't say really. Always remember. I don't have a clue what I'm doing

The problem is in reasonable cost data availability and optimizing the data to a smooth gameplay. Let's hope that the incoming tessellation feature will bring space for improvement in world complexity. 104th Cobra [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
BlueRidgeDx Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 Ummm...thats exactly what the Nevada map does. It's orthographic imagery draped onto the DEM mesh, with 3D objects placed on top. The MSFS series - and to a much greater extent, MSFS addons - have been doing this for more than a decade. I think even Jane's USAF Fighters did this back in 1999. 1 "They've got us surrounded again - those poor bastards!" - Lt. Col. Creighton Abrams

Demongornot Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 @Newt are you crazy ? How can you say that ? the scenery are perfect, or maybe you think than game graphic are better than real life ? xD Anyway we will see when the Nevada will coming, the the Georgia its FAR to be realistic for color, look everything you want in the sim and compare with any picture and sat image... With gray or brown grass its funny... in the rest of the world the grass are green, in Georgia that just look like color loss after wash... I hope the Nevada will be like (and even better) than what i see in screenshot and not less.. And about the Nevada, did we will have the Area 51 ? With aircraft like TR3A TR3B and other 30/40 year old prototype in parking ? :p CPU : I7 6700k, MB : MSI Z170A GAMING M3, GC : EVGA GTX 1080ti SC2 GAMING iCX, RAM : DDR4 HyperX Fury 4 x 8 Go 2666 MHz CAS 15, STORAGE : Windows 10 on SSD, games on HDDs. EtherealN Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 The texture of this new sim its at 100% in photorealism cause based on real photography... Just FYI: being based on "real photography" does not mean anything is "photorealistic". In fact, the term "photorealistic" is just a marketing buzzword. In fact, while I'm not an expert in this, I'd strongly suspect that actual photographs are one of the worse things you can start off with when it comes to getting the colors right in a game, and the reason is simple: the simulator will need to display that terrain at other times and atmospheric conditions than when you took the photograph, and you cannot control the lighting conditions when working from satellite imagery aside from selecting images that have similar conditions. The wizards who actually work on that stuff probably have some tricks they employ to fix this, but as far as colors go my point really is that you can take the "real" colors, or indeed an actual terrain photograph, put it inside a simulator - and have it look like crap. Same thing as when you take a photo for a magazine and then have to adjust color balances in PS to make it look good in print. That right there is exactly what you are asking for (though in a 1998 iteration, so lower-res of course), and the colors certainly doesn't look "right" or "photorealistic" to me. What is gained through the photos is a departure from the (until then) so common grids of repetition for terrain - but actual color fidelity isn't the big deal. (Though of course the advertisements did tout this as well...) 1 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Daniel "EtherealN" Agorander | Даниэль "эфирныйн" Агорандер Intel i7 2600K @ 4.4GHz, ASUS Sabertooth P67, 8GB Corsair Vengeance @ 1600MHz, ASUS GTX 560Ti DirectCU II 1GB, Samsung 830series 512GB SSD, Corsair AX850w, two BENQ screens and TM HOTAS Warthog DCS: A-10C Warthog FAQ | DCS: P-51D FAQ | Remember to read the Forum Rules | | | Life of a Game Tester
EtherealN Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 Here's an illustration of my point: Both of these are photographs, but apparently Las Vegas cannot decide on what color to be... You could take either of these colors, apply it to the terrain, and claim to have "photorealistic" colors... sobek Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 Because it's WIP? Edit: ^^^^ Killjoy :D Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Come let's eat grandpa! Use punctuation, save lives!
EtherealN Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 To be specific: a lot of the brightness is an illusion: the roads are exactly the same brightness in the shadows as outside of it, because the shadow wasn't applied to them. Obviously: WIP.
