Does that mean We'll have to pay for it?

I would say that, aside from A-10C beta purchasers, would be a given.

If you ever flew MSFSX you paid for " REX " so why not pay for Nevada..I would without question..

I have payed for REX, but lets not get off topic. The equivelant of paying for REX is basically the same as paying for EDGE, which most probably not gonna happen.

Don't see how its getting off topic...I just stated if you are willing to pay for " REX " then why not also pay for " EDGE "(Nevada) I mean ED/DCS have to suppliment their income also just like any other business if the didn't the ED/DCS is out of business and we have no more DCS World..simple as that...

Ok, now tell me why the people that bought the DCS A-10C Beta will get it for free - 'Because they had it before?' - That does not make sense to me at all.

Because that is the deal the ED made with those that purchased A-10C before it was released.

Yes. This was the deal that ED proposed when the Nevada terrain was removed from the DCS A-10C beta product. It was removed before release but it was part of the package that was originally purchased by those that bought near the beginning of the beta.

NOTE: This was over two and a half years ago. Done deal.

The statement was: Nevada map will take profit from EDGE technology...

That doesn't mean that if you see a screenshot from Nevada terrain it is inevitably rendered by EDGE.

Correct. I would say that the rendering technology used in those Nevada shots looks very similar to what we already have in DCS. I would be very surprised if it's representative of what they're bringing to the table with EDGE.

Until someone from ED confirms it that picture is not from EDGE.

None of this logic makes any sense since why would ED display Nevada in the old engine when the whole reason we're waiting is for the new one? It makes absolutely NO PR logic.

The recent Images of Nevada Terrain/Map in the Weekly update was said to be rendered on Edge.

:music_whistling:

Which is also kind of pulling the wool over our eyes, because apparently the new renderer will be a free adition to the game (as it should) but to actually see the difference you need to buy the new map.

Since its been said that dedicated server support for all of DCS World is contingent on the release of EDGE I think its pretty clear that everyone has something to be gained from EDGE whether they pay for it or not.

Warning: Nothing I say is automatically correct, even if I think it is.

If he dedicated server app depends on EDGE can the dedicated server also host Caucasus missions?

I would imagine going forward with any new terrain and graphics engine involves setting the dedi code up for the future as well as the past. Georgia will be legacy, while EDGE will be the future.

I don't understand why everyone seems paranoid that EDGE will somehow make Georgia disappear from single player or multiplayer. :ermm:

DCS World has a free module. The free module is compatible with multiplayer. The free moduel relies on Georgia. If the new dedi server code doesn't support Georgia then DCS World free will have no practical multiplayer functionality. I don't see them doing this.

Are you a software developer? I am and I know it is a lot of extra work maintaining separate standards like they will have to. There is no definitive information on this but I wouldn't be surprised if they suddenly announced that the Georgia map will be phased out. For me the theater is more important than the graphics so I'm of course worried about that.

It is a must to drop the support of the old one!

After all, I don't want to download 6 GB of DCS World, and just ignore the black sea!

I think the Nevada should be the default map

Let's fly together for the sake of peace :)

That works both ways you know. I'd rather not have to download the Nevada map as I don't want it even if I'll get it for free because of the DCS A-10C beta.

I doubt that ED will allow all existing missions, especially user-created, be rendered useless by discontinuing the current map. That would be the death blow for DCS ...

But if we are talking about mid- to long-term ... yes, possibly that one day support will be discontinued for Georgia.

I cant see them stopping us from using it, it will probably just not get any more updates.

I don't get it why Nevada is so undesirable. Its arid, Iran is largely arid, as is Iraq. Its not like you've overflown Iran, bombed something, then come home to play DCS World and complained "Man, this Nevada map doesn't look anything like Tehran on a monday morning".

Its ironic really, since nobody has really fought over many of these countries the way we want to, except for once or twice since the 70s, and yet everyone wants to fight there and rejects a map which isn't there.

Whats most ironic still is that the Nevada test area is host to the world's largest peace time training ground for military aircraft with the largest simulated air defense network on the planet. More NATO aviators have fought simulated wars over Nevada than have ever dropped actual ordnance or sent a missile Pitbull over the Middle East.

Nevada is in many ways the only logical map. :P
