Megagoth1702 Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 Hey folks! Currently I fly with the Saitek Cybork Evo. Too bad though that it's potis were calibrated sloppily. In my throttle i have a nice dead zone around 45-55% and the axes are not properly scaled. Also with some axes sometimes I reach 100% by being at 80% (seen in the Saitek Software). I am looking for a new joystik. I would spend up to 80-100€ on it, I dont really want to spend much more... I am looking for the standart features but not less than my current joystick has. That is: -Joystick rotation (rudder) -at least or more than 12 buttons -if possible wireless or with LONG cable (2.5-3.5m) -a coolie hat (the one you use with your thumb for camera movements/HOTAS commands) -nice throttle which is not "loose" but has a nice tight feel to it I read something about the "Hall Effect" for the axes, I know the method. Is it the only way to get really precise joysticks? Or can potis do just fine? I am not sure if I will be able to get a decent joystick for that kind of money because the joystick business is a small one and the companies just keep the prices high... :-/ However guys, if you have any tips for me - go ahead! Thanks in advance! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] System specs:2500k @ 4.6 GHz 8GB RAM HD7950 OC'd Win7 x64 Posting tracks to make your DCS better - attention bump incoming!
Speed Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 That's 80-100 Euros? I believe the X-52 is available in that price range. You will need an extension cable to get the cable lengths you need though. The X-52 is generally considered the minimal stick that fulfills the "HOTAS" category. I can tell you, you can fit the entire A-10C HOTAS on the X-52 using only a single mode and the pinky shift. Intelligent discourse can only begin with the honest admission of your own fallibility. 159th_Viper Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 Keep in mind that precision increases in direct proportion to price. Sooooooo.........80-100€ will not get you 'very precise' and quite possibly only 'basically functional' insofar as the Hog is concerned :) Novice or Veteran looking for an alternative MP career? cichlidfan Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 I suspect that any stick that still provides the twist function for rudder control will not meet your definition of precise. LostOblivion Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 I can vouch for the X52, it has served me long and well, until I got my TMHW. If you feel like you can afford it though, go for the hog, other than that the X52 does very well too if you don't want to spend a fortune on a high end joystick and throttle. kylania Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 Loved the X52 before I got the Warthog. I'm pretty sure there's mods you can do to make it more precise later too. pitbull Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 Agreed. X-52 is good bang for the bucks. I owned an X-36, an X-45 et a 52. all of the 3 were great hotas for the price. I stil have my 52 around somewhere, but the throttle is modded with a collective lever for rotary AC. I keep it just in case something come up helo wise. Also had a G940 but sold it within a month. I'll leave at that.... Botton line: X-52 would serve you well. Avilator Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 I suspect that any stick that still provides the twist function for rudder control will not meet your definition of precise. Just FYI, you can lock the twist axis on the x-52 non-pro. I only respond to that little mechanical voice that says "Terrain! Terrain! Pull Up! Pull Up!" cichlidfan Posted October 27, 2011 Posted October 27, 2011 Just FYI, you can lock the twist axis on the x-52 non-pro. You can on the Pro as well but that does not change the stick or it's design. Megagoth1702 Posted October 27, 2011 Author Posted October 27, 2011 (edited) Guys, what about the TrustMaster T.6000M ? I hear it is very very good, very nice quality & precision. Does not wear out over time. It is also fairly cheap. It has enough buttons for me. I don't want a super-duper complex HOTAS system. All I want is a decent joystick. :) The throttle on that looks kind of small... I wonder if it's still precise? Anybody used it here? Doing air refueling with a jumpy piece of shit hardware that mine has become over time... Is a PAIN and impossible with all the throttle jumps. How is the tension on the spring? I prefer a tighter stick... cichlidfan Posted October 27, 2011 Posted October 27, 2011 I have never used one but the travel on the throttle seems rather short for providing any sort of fine control. Beyond that it is probably a decent stick...for the price. I know that my T Flght Hotas has a great feel for the price as well. Well if the resolution and quality of the detector on the throttle is good enough - it will be alright, Sometimes I try to use cirurgic precision for very precise speed holding but then my throttle jumps around randomly. :-/ It can only get better. CyBerkut Posted October 27, 2011 Posted October 27, 2011 Consider buying two of the ThrustMaster T.6000M... set one up for your left hand to be the throttle. Cobble up some sticks or plates to limit the left hand stick to just moving on the Y Axis (for throttle control), with some friction. [Might want to remove the centering spring(s).] That would get you a hall effect throttle, plus some extra buttons, etc. too. A "poor man's HOTAS". [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] There's no place like 127.0.0.1
cichlidfan Posted October 27, 2011 Posted October 27, 2011 You can get an X-52 non-pro for about the price of two T.16000 so... Megagoth1702 Posted October 27, 2011 Author Posted October 27, 2011 X52 is not as precise though and I would never consider using 2 joysticks, that is just crazy! :D My table barely has enough space for keyboard & 1 joystick. Sokol1_br Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 (edited) If you have space limitation get Tm T16000.M. But X-52 "vanila" + magnet MOD is the best bang for the buck. Sokol1 Edited October 28, 2011 by Sokol1_br
Megagoth1702 Posted October 28, 2011 Author Posted October 28, 2011 Thank you Sokol. I think I am going for the Saitek X52. Magnet mod?... Stronger magnets? tjhowse Posted October 29, 2011 Posted October 29, 2011 My X52 non-pro served me well for a long time, but eventually I tired of performing the mental arithmetic required to get all the shift keys and hats worked out, so I bought a TM warthog.
