howdy....

Last night I innocently wondered 'what is this trackIR 5 pro' thingy. Went to the net, saw some things, woke up this morning and ordered it. It's already in the mail.....

One simple question... once I've figured out the programing and have it 'oriented' is there anything I specifically need to know to make it work with dcs a10c?

In short... is it plug and play or am I in for a whole new world of unknown, self-inflicted pain? I just know there's someone out there who could point me to all the answers, but so far 'searching' hasn't helped!

P.S. Still haven't figured out the bottom line signature thingy, so for now, this will have to do....

It's plug and play, just need to install the drivers and you're away.

The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.

congrads , you will love it. it is as simple as that to start. later you can explore all the setting and come up with profile comfortable to you.

just word of advice - try to go easy on that LED clip. it is very fragile, mine broke after day two and since seen a lot of glue

Agreed, with another caution about the clip. I have not broken mine yet but you can easily see the potential, especially once you get used to it enough that you forget you have it on!;)

To be honest. I would bet more get damaged when not on your head. When I am not using mine for more than a couple of minutes, it gets hung up out of the way where I can't hook the cord or knock it on the floor.

One thing, make sure you set some time aside for when it arrives, because even though it is plug and play you have to allow for an extended "Holy Crap" period!! :D

Quite so. Also, in the first few hours of flight I didn't like it AT ALL. I thought why in the hell have I spent a good amount of money on this piece of cr*p! If you encouter this: stick with it. You'll get used to it and you'll love it!

If you keep it on your headphones permanently you can just cable tie the wires together and it'll be the same.

Personally I use the Hat Clip now, I got the Track Clip Pro, but I've been through two, and personally, I've seen no discernible difference in tracking quality.

I think the difference in tracking quality is relative to the ambient lighting. If you don't have a lot of potential distracting, for the camera, light sources then they are probably very close. However, when it is a nice sunny day and the general lighting is rather bright in the room the LEDs do seem to work a bit better.

Your mileage may vary.;)

yep. did exactly that and it stays put, but the clip got broken couple off time after dropping

the headphones (i guess it is my mistake, should have complained to NP about this immediately.)

as far as the hat clip, tracking quality is exactly as the "pro" clip. difference if there is some is negligible as far as i can tell. but there is the thing about 4 IR LEDs shining all the time - the camera gets very hot (on top of not cold monitor). i've read concerns about it burning out prematurely and solutions to have a fan blowing over it.

as was said the placement is important.I have a big mirror behind me and at a times TrackIR confused its own illumination as one of the dots. all would be good and suddenly the motion gets all weird on me. took me quite some time to figure out what happened. that was the deciding factor to glue the yet again broken pro-clip and use that.

well... it arrived @ 4 hours ago.... Dark Eagle... I couldn't agree more! But I am sticking with it....

Thanks to all for the advice about this units fragility.... no kidding! I have tie-wrapped the cords and unit to the headphones and it's 'gentle as she goes, skipper'

Can't seem to get more than 20 - 25 degrees left and right... 10 - 15 degrees up and down. So it's off to read the manual!

I figure I'm moving along as I started out looking aft.... nothing but the seat and scenery behind me!

One more question.... it's working very well inside the cockpit, but nothing outside the cockpit. Is this a limitation of the game or have I missed a button somewhere? I've read the instruction manual twice and either missed or mis-understood something. I found the dcs a10 profile and have tried all 3 settings, but that doesn't seem to do it.

Seriusly wondering what it looks like to eject....

Any help's appreciated..... as has all the adivce put forward so far.

Glad you like TIR, everyone does!

It only functions inside the cockpit at present, so it sounds like you have it working just fine.
