An idle thought, if you do create more than 1 version of this wonderful carrier how easy would it be to change the deck paint file name so that it is different for each version.

That way we could create different versions of the CVN to put in the game, by simply replacing the subs or one of the other ships with the different carrier models. It does work, I have done it, (although the carriers do not do everything it should properly) at least we could have some different eye candy in game at long last.

 

I am working on another version of your beautiful deck, to include texture for the hole where the blast plates lifts up and a slight change to the deck centre line and warning lines.

Here it is in EDM without planes and crew on flightdeck (i left the recolored-to-real crane on) + 2 sample textures for different deck and hull. (with different texture names what this model uses)

Put textures into TempTextures folder and rename vinson76noplane.edm to vinson.edm for an ingame tryout.

I didn't tried yet but i think you can use the original/older collision model, or not ?

Thanks HungroJET, will have a test sail on Christmas Day to see how it all works, cat permitting (well it is Christmas and he is just a kid).

Well, here is a TestBed folder within 6 files.

Copy/unpack all files into Bazar\World\Shapes folder.

Filenames are of importance. Lods file will use.

 

You don't need to backup any file, coz you will find the only 1 overwritten file as vinson-orig.edm

This will overwrite only vinson.edm with Tom's model, but it's up to you...make a backup of vinson.edm.

 

The 6 files in the folder/zip:

 

1. Vinson.edm = Tom's carrier without planes and crew on flightdeck.

 

2. Vinson.lods = there are 3 model in this file what lods use (models visible from different distances) just for testing/comparing shapes (elevators/islands/side edges of ships) if u dont need the changing models you can delete appropriate rows or ignore with "--" (2 minus signs) at the beginning of the row.

 

3. Vinson-collision.edm = converted the oldest .cmd Vinson model from Flanker2 to .edm - this model have rotating radars, moving elevators and correctly animated Phalanx and SeaSparrow launchers.

We will use this oldest model for collision model coz the newer vinson.cmd/edm (from FC1/FC2/DCS) have holes (no surface) instead of solid area/zone of elevators.

 

4. Vinson-collisionFC.edm = this is the original DCS Vinson.edm 3D file (newer .cmd converted to .edm by E.D.)

If you want the elevator "holes" then you should rename:

Vinson-collision.edm to Vinson-collisionF2.edm (Flanker 2 model)

and this

Vinson-collisionFC.edm to Vinson-collision.edm (orig DCS model)

 

5. Vinson-old-F2.edm = this is the oldest Flanker2 .cmd model what i converted into edm. You will see this model ingame also when you changing viewing distance.

 

6. Vinson-orig.edm = Original Vinson 1.1.1.1 model (based on FC1 model vinson.cmd by E.D.)

Old Vinson models/files (not Tom's model) have own collision models in itself, therefore these models/files dont need .lod and collision files.

 

The .lods file is necessary (for Tom's model) for naming the collision model ( and for test/see the different size/rate/disposition of the models as LevelOfDetail )

 

You can land on the deck, crash by hull, lower part of island (different coords/placement for collison and Tom's model = this will you see by .lods)

Radar/mast section and raised up Jet Blast Deflectors are not collidable.

Tom's model has different shape, longer stern. You can fall into sea there also or if you use original vinson (FC1/DCS) model as a collison model then you need to be careful with the different positions of the elevators and the "holes" too.

BTW: Mustang, Heater plz report to E.D.: AI chopper cannot land (permanently) on ship decks. They will fall (soon @ shut/spinning down) into sea or will levitate over the sea or jumping under-ground somewhere on the map.

I guess this is an official bug not a bug of this "mod".

I get several MISSING TEXTURE warnings at various levels of zoom after copying and pasting all the files I got from the download above.

First you need to download Tom's model:

very great job- Thank you very much HungaroJet. One little question: Are you able to open lom files with any programm or did you got the 3ds carrier files from Grandsurf? It isn`t very importent but interesting for myself because the chance to open lom files to modify could be very very interesting.

I guess this is an official bug not a bug of this "mod".

Need LOM .In FC2 is though that on it to put operated people.Need Brighter light deck and light landing sysytem.
