I've never seen this device modeled before; I didn't even know it existed. Cool. Data on it is in the pic attached and taken from the P-51D Pilot Training Manual 51-127-5 printed in AUG 1945. I wonder if it'll be modeled?

Beautiful. There is a reason you guys win all those awards. Any chance you guys can model all of Europe from the 1940s too? JK

На скринах ваших на хвосте видны антенны радара AN/APS-13, оповещавшего пилота о приближении противника сзади. Эта система будет реализована?
Да.

Да = Yes

I actually didn't expect a conformation or denial on this one, but thanks. I prefer floating the topic as appose to groveling for details.

You might also want to check up on the history of this device ... IIRC it is a modified nuclear bomb radar altitude burst fuze.

According to Wikipedia, you got it the wrong way around... it was first developed by the Brits, then adapted to US aircraft, and then modified into a radar burst altitude fuse:

I had no idea the Mustang had anything like this either.

Would be interesting to know if the rear radar warning reviver would be able to warn you from a incoming aim-9 that is about 15cm in diameter.

But even if you get a warning....

you have to take into account that you get the warning when the missile is abut 700 yards away - and lets say that it is travelling at Mach 2,5 ...

...so you have probably only 1,5 -2 second to do something against it .... And I doubt that this is enough to save your tail.

Even if you had more time, it just isn't likely that a P-51 can maneuver hard enough, in most cases, to evade a sidewinder.

Is the P-51 hot enough for the sidewinder to lock-on to it?

Sure. You can shoot down UAVs with sidewinders, a P-51 is bigger and hotter. Not as hot as a jet engine though.

I think the rear radar reciever was only fitted to late model P-51ds.

Sounds like rather than building AI Me-109s and Fw-190s to challenge this thing, we need late model japanese aircraft.

That would be cool. a late war over Japan senario.
