MTFDarkEagle Posted December 24, 2012 Posted December 24, 2012 Well, you can get locking switches for not too expensive! Have a look here: http://www.mouser.com Example: http://uk.mouser.com/ProductDetail/NKK-Switches/S21AL-RO/?qs=sGAEpiMZZMvudeGI7i40XCxYWSohsJIpYhDbBraUjss%3d That switch I am using and it's great!! NKK switches have some very nice quality stuff. Eventhough they are not Honeywell, they are solid. Shame lots of people making these fancy panels and using stock throw switches while they can get locking switches for just a bit more.. :) Lukas - "TIN TIN" - 9th Shrek Air Strike Squadron TIN TIN's Cockpit thread

agrasyuk Posted December 26, 2012 Author Posted December 26, 2012 (edited) Darkeagle, just so you know you caused 110$ of damage to my wallet. i hope you darn happy  :D while i wait for diodes, switches and other stuff I put the framework together. new acrylic inser for the screen is cut, MFDs repositioned, MFD switch and wire holders installed, the AHCP enclosure is glued to the acrylic. and now i also have possibility to glue actual bezels for the gauges. NMSP and CMSC will be done in hardware as well using same solution. but here is the dilema - as you can see from the profile on screen there is no room for fuel indicator with things arranged as they are. i really don't want to make engine panel any smaller. unlike flaps indicator that i will be making in hardware, fuel quantity is more complex. (protector sheet is still not removed from the back side hence the bluish hue) possibilities are: 1. run without either fuel or hydraulic pressure indication. seems like a poor idea. 2. resize engine panel to squeeze in fuel gauge. i really REALLY don't want to make the panel smaller. 3. have just the hydraulic pressure gages on the insert drawn above UHF repeater. or loose the UHF repeater for the fuel and hyd. pres. gauge. or resize the repeater to have all three there. as result there will be functional but quite unorthodox solution. ADD: Plausible? picture of rotary switch mount for the MFCDs. i like how it turned out :) Edited December 26, 2012 by agrasyuk 1 Anton. My pit build thread . Simple and cheap UFC project
agrasyuk Posted December 28, 2012 Author Posted December 28, 2012 forgive me purist pit builders , but i'm going with the unprototypical positioning of the fuel/hyd pressure gauges. better to have them in incorrect place then not have them at all. engine cluster overlay. grey bezels not yet glued considering if i need to make them deeper. i removed background image in helios engine panel and replaced with white, gives quite a boost to contarst of the white markings. deep enough or make them taller? Gadroc Posted December 29, 2012 Posted December 29, 2012 Looking very good! I really like the switch add on's for the MFDs. I took an easier way out and I'm mounting them a little further away.
agrasyuk Posted December 29, 2012 Author Posted December 29, 2012 thanks guys. Gadroc, in your case you have a bit more of flexibility while i'm bound to the 23" screen and i need to route the MFDs wires anyways. the really lucky part was scoring those 3 position mini-rotaries, i don't see those for sale anywhere at least not in that ~11x13mm package (probably me not working right with the catalogs...) Gadroc , wanted to ask you, what is the top power you attempted to run your laser? cutting 3mm acrylic i make 2 passes at 15mm/sec and 60%. managed to cut 6mm thick piece at same settings with 5 passes (4 sometimes does it ,adding another pass for reliability) and got nice cut at that. somehow i'm afraid to go past the 65% Anton. Gadroc Posted December 29, 2012 Posted December 29, 2012 Do you still have an amp meter on it? If not get one on it and then just make sure you don't go over 15ma.
MTFDarkEagle Posted December 30, 2012 Posted December 30, 2012 Crackin' build Anton  And no, I'm not sorry AT ALL at causing 110$ damage to your wallet :D Which ones you got? Lukas - "TIN TIN" - 9th Shrek Air Strike Squadron TIN TIN's Cockpit thread
agrasyuk Posted December 31, 2012 Author Posted December 31, 2012 (edited) thanks for the kind words guys, that's quite inspiring. Lukas (right?) i got the 4 armament toggles plus the bottom AHCP row. Gardoc , i did install the 3 digit mA meter, never went above 9mA. kinda scary. with that i think i liked the stock analog meter much better as it reacts faster and really shows the A spikes unlike the digital that kinda avereges it out across short period of time. to me it seems peak A is much more important metric to know. oh well, i guess the main thing i didn't burn the tube out yet. did bunch of cutting. EDIT wrong pic: looking through actual pictures i see that the bezel color is black, with a touch of dust. repainted. probably should have made the "light assembly" thingies bigger. dummy screws are printed, need to cut and glue. colored bezel markings will be done when this thing is permanently attached . MTFDarkEagle Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 That looks jummy :D Looks very good!! Very nice job. I saaaay, where do I recognize those switches from? :D Lukas - "TIN TIN" - 9th Shrek Air Strike Squadron TIN TIN's Cockpit thread
agrasyuk Posted January 4, 2013 Author Posted January 4, 2013 (edited) DarkEagle, i say you need a better AHCP panel for your box to showcase your switches. the one i see in your build thread is... hmmm... not as inspiring as it could be :) I'm still waiting for components for MIP, and having a brain dead moment how to use additional space that is being left over on my version of landing panel (screen of dxf attached). while i wait until brilliant idea strikes me from the sky i played around with something i want to do very long time ago - a functioning gauge. here is proof of concept for one i will not be able to allocate screen space to - a flap gauge. "assembled" with bezel, clear, top, two spacers and bottom layers and a pointer. nothing is painted yet (went with sharpie over the edges to give me better idea of looks) the breakdown. i know these are not backlit IRL but rather front lit. my version however will be :music_whistling: last layer holding LEDs for the degree markings somehow got forgotten and didn't make it into picture. servo mmountin assembly not yet fabbed, waiting to get actual servo to try it out. anyone else want's a gauge like this (once complete)? having a blast with this as you can see :pilotfly: Edited January 4, 2013 by agrasyuk Anton. Intrepid1 Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 Thats a very nice rendition of a flap gauge .Your quite creative Randy

agrasyuk Posted January 9, 2013 Author Posted January 9, 2013 one of the panels made tonight: Landing panel made to fit my mounting system with some extras. gear lever and mechanism are still in CAD file. thought that having another flaps switch can be of benefit in other crafts i want to fly. got my scale model building supplies and gathering courage to mask and paint the yellow striping of the downlock override area. agrasyuk Posted January 10, 2013 Author Posted January 10, 2013 i probably should be fixing the damage, yet i still ocupied with details a quick and very dirty try at LGIndicators. engraved on inner side leaving smooth top 4 part build. looks messy, masking tape left nasty residue and i need to start managing the glue better. but i think this looks promising (after all picture is blown up near twise its actual size) and will look good in green acryl. sorry no light, it gets very late again Anton.
