I'm goin to try this again....

But before pre-purchase, can someone from ED put my mind at ease and assure me that the idle sounds of the Merlin will be added/corrected? As it sits now it sounds as if it's idling very high.

If you've ever heard the real aircraft start up you'll know what I'm talking about.

I personally love the sounds as much as the aircraft itself, so am very much interested if the start-up/idling sounds will be fixed/added. Thank you!

I'll have to respectfully disagree. It doesn't have that tell-tale V-12 Merlin sound when it's idling. It goes right from the start up sounds (which are great) to a high idle, as if the throttle were open further than idle. It should sputter, burp and fart while idling, for lack of a better description :)

The list of incomplete items shows sounds as not being fully finished, so perhaps it will be corrected.

The rest of the sounds are great, at least everything else I've heard, it's just the idling sound that seems off. Good day!

My last post was moved into DCS world-bugs and problems. This issue has to do with the P-51 itself, not DCS world. So anyway, once again, why after start-up does it sound as if it's idling so high? As if the throttle is open to far? If you've ever heard a real P-51 idle you'll know what I'm talking about. I realize the sounds were recorded from the real aircraft, but that characteristic Merlin idle sound where it sputters, burps and farts is just not present in the current beta build. Is this just because all samples have not been used? Or are the engine sounds/idle sounds complete? Thanks

They've said sound is wip.

here you go:

There are some unfinished features that may not seem not right yet.

e) Overall performance is very close to accurate but radiator drag/thrust is not taken in account yet and it can affect the performance within several percents.

f) Guns and gun camera (Shift - F4) ballistics and harmonization ***

g) Sound - not all features are done, not all samples are used yet.

h) Damage model - WIP **

I did see that, and am just trying to confirm that those particular sounds are still a wip. I can only hope, as the rest of the sounds are excellent. It's just that wonderful Merlin idle sound seems off. Still a wonderful aircraft though, even being a beta wip. Very happy with it. Thanks

The Sound Engine and problems associated thereof falls within DCS World, hence the move.

Well why can't you just simply answer my question? Are you telling me it's a problem with the sound? I simply would like to know if this will be fixed or if the engine sounds are final? Instead of banishing this question to a location that will never be seen, you could just answer the question.

He's saying your question belongs to appropriate section which was set up for such purpose. It's just a matter of organization. And welcome to the forum. :)

Well why can't you just simply answer my question?

The sounds In-Sim are those of Miss Velma. As such I doubt whether the authenticity thereof can be called into question. I will however see if I can find out more.

In furtherance to the move, you asked for a member of ED to address your question. The Sound Dev will read the Sound sub-forum for possible issues/questions from the community. He does not and nor should he be required to read the General Forum to sift through posts. When a thread is moved/administrated rest assured that I'm not doing it for $*#s and giggles.

sounds can be affected by a lot of things. sound card settings, the card itself, speakers, your or my ears.

afaik this aircraft has a packard merlin fitted which is different to a RR merlin, which is different to a griffon. all of these had blown non blown versions.

if it sounds wrong to you and it is a recording of the real thing then it just sounds wrong to you.

if they (FIX) it for you then it will probably sound wrong to me or someone else.

BTW it sounds fine to me.

The sounds are still WIP and not all of them are complete or hooked up yet. The engine simulation itself is also still not 100% complete especially in regards to slow running, which certain sounds would rely on to trigger.

Considering they have an original P-51 at their disposal I think this will be one of the best sounding DCS modules yet when its finished. :)

In addition to all of the above, there's the in-cockpit sound and external sound and chances are they won't be much alike.

They are! Even the external sound is changing when moving around the plane - like in real life :music_whistling:

@ Ty89m - the "idling" sound as the engine sound in general changes on a lot of different triggers like RPM setting and Manifold pressure setting.

When setting RPM to min rather than to max as you should for startup and reducing Manifold Pressure below 25 InHG the "rattling" sound and hickups occur, I guess like in the real plane you flew, right?

When in the air and changing AoA plus reducing MP and RPM too much it idles at a low rumble and when pushing RPM up again burps and stutters... as stated before ED has access to the Fighter Collections original(!) P-51D and uses samples from that exact plane so whatever it sound it will be authentic and close to the real thing, I guess.

For me it sounds real and I can easily distinguish certain settings by sound alone and even faulty settings (low RPM at high altitude or large AoA).

Did you actually try the Beta or are you referencing a youtube-video?:smartass:
