Brisse Posted May 15, 2012 Posted May 15, 2012 It's not as bad as it looks. That kind of foam will just becomes liquid and rinse away on it's own. With this amount it might take a few days though.
GripenNG Posted May 15, 2012 Posted May 15, 2012 At first I thought someone had forgotten to close the hangar doors during an apocalypse snowstorm...just look how much it´s outside :megalol: I guess somebody had a hard day at the office! :v: [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Snooze-81st-vFS
joey45 Posted May 15, 2012 Posted May 15, 2012 Thought they were cleaning them... The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance. When there are open access panels on the aircraft and that foam gets in there, it can get pretty bad. i7 7700K | 32GB RAM | GTX 1080Ti | Rift CV1 | TM Warthog | Win 10 "There will always be people with a false sense of entitlement. hassata Posted May 16, 2012 Posted May 16, 2012 Is that F-15 missing one of its rudders? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Blaze Posted May 16, 2012 Posted May 16, 2012 Yep, also note that access panels are open on the top left wing, as well as the obvious airbrake up. i7 7700K | 32GB RAM | GTX 1080Ti | Rift CV1 | TM Warthog | Win 10 "There will always be people with a false sense of entitlement. BTTW-DratsaB Posted May 16, 2012 Posted May 16, 2012 (edited) just how do you think it would put out the fire if you couldn't? Well, its a place where people work and generally, with Fire suppression, they don't wait to clear a place before becoming active. Eg they are automatic (or activated manually ASAP). I was curious as to what would the procedure be if it was a busy hanger floor then suddenly the fire suppression system activates. Is it quick or is there loads of time to get out of there? Also maybe the foam is easy enough to just brush away and get some air. but Maybe its very deep. It's hard to tell from the photo. It looks like it is near enough 6-8ft deep. It looks like it is near enough 6-8ft deep. If the hanger doors are closed the foam will potentially fill up the entire hanger. If I'm conducting maintenance in the hanger and the alarm goes the guys working with me will only see a*shole and elbows as I'm running out the door :D. That being said, there are some unhappy crew chiefs because they'll be pulling panels on these jets to clean because of how corrosive the agent is. mvsgas Posted May 16, 2012 Posted May 16, 2012 (edited) The foam is called AFFF It is not a suffocation hazard like Halon 1211 (A.K.A.Bromochlorodifluoromethane). With that said, it can be very corrosive and damage many components, but AFFF activating by mistake happens quite often. foam SHAW AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. -- (Lt.) Shayne Carder and Staff Sgt.
