Whisky One Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 Hi guys this is my wannabe / whisky hog box better known as the whogbox 1.0 this is 100% own design and developed and upgraded everytime. (spend quite some time walking around at the home depot, qualitytime :) ) this means that this is the "test" pit (however its a joy to sit in) and is designed as a dry run for the more accurate version I am working on now. It's not really easy to find parts in the Netherlands but I will get there in some more months. At the moment I'm busy with the ACES II Seat and some panels and a new version of the center console and have it cut with professional gear. (not designed ''on the draw'') also the extension will become a bit shorter and the wires will be nicely put away. Every feedback is more then welcome. regards Whisky One

Whisky One Posted June 23, 2012 Author Posted June 23, 2012 thx guys, your pits give me a lot of inspiration, Here is a small update on some parts I managed to get my Hands on: I got myself: Some knobs, an oxygen panel and a Floodlight! :) I also found 2 APU Fire Pull handles. I don't really know what do Right now, make them into 2 Fire L and R eng. modules. That will be a pity of the original markings. I think I will only us 1 for the APU and make the L and R engine handles myself Although they are marked US (unserviceable) my brother found out that some of the wire combo's still work and we lit them up :) nice to see a handle from 1978/79 that still works! The Oxy panel is from 7 AVR 81'(Avril= french for april? ) So could be from a french F-something. these are little pieces of history that I love to put to use in my pit.
Longbow116 Posted June 23, 2012 Posted June 23, 2012 Dry run you say? looks pretty awesome. absolutely, keep us updated. :book:
Whisky One Posted July 1, 2012 Author Posted July 1, 2012 I'm working on the magic seat now. The lst picture shows the rough setup. I want to make sure that it is comfortable and slightly realistic before I put it together definately. Thinking about making the backrest/seatpan with some thin wood or 0.5mm aluminium. After that is done I am going to sandpaper and prime it three times and throw some paint on it. When I receive the decals from DeadMan the decals will be given a nice new home.
hog_driver111th Posted July 2, 2012 Posted July 2, 2012 looking good Whisky! Any word on what we talked about? Whisky One Posted July 2, 2012 Author Posted July 2, 2012 (edited) here are some more progress pics. I am very busy at work and so on so the evening is my building time. I put the sitting part together and glued/nailed some small stuff on the headrest/container area. edit: today I attached the 2 major parts. Now its beginning to look like a seat. Edited July 3, 2012 by Whisky One adding pics
Whisky One Posted July 6, 2012 Author Posted July 6, 2012 just finished the seatpan. inspired by Red Dog (F16) I used 0.5mm aluminum and cut it with a simple sharp tool, as you bend it a couple of times you have a nice straight cut. Then I punched some holes in it with a big nail and put the screws in.
Whisky One Posted July 8, 2012 Author Posted July 8, 2012 Today I finished the backrest. 0.5mm aluminum. First sheet didn't make it :megalol:. Then I found out (on the internets) that leaving the sheet uncut until the end is better. First I shaped the round curve for the lower back, then I attached it. I made some horizontal sticks inside the seat to support the aluminum. It's not the best backrest there is but I am very happy. There will be some isolation PU material on it so you won't see the small differences anyway.
hog_driver111th Posted July 8, 2012 Posted July 8, 2012 Hey whiskey, do you have a CNC machine? Are you doing panels? Whisky One Posted July 19, 2012 Author Posted July 19, 2012 I don't have a CNC machine, but ordered it at a very capable dutch company. http://www.wecommunicate.nl/nl_cases/index.php I will be looking at panel building after this summer. I'm making some small progress on the seat. Tonight I'll be working on the aluminum seat sides for all the handles.
Whisky One Posted July 20, 2012 Author Posted July 20, 2012 Some small progress. I made the cushion out of 1 square cushion I got for 5 euro's at the hardware store. I cut it and folded the edges around the new shapes and put some Bison fabric glue on it. It will be painted in a while. Here is how I made 1 piece of aluminum for the sides for all the handles. It is one piece of aluminum folded and hammered into shape. Some small screws and bison multifunctional glue did the rest. I used a polymer filler for the edges, they will be customized and painted tomorrow.
wasserfall Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 Hartstikke mooi!!
Whisky One Posted July 23, 2012 Author Posted July 23, 2012 thanks man! good luck on the russian seat, looks pretty complicated! yesterday I made the left seat side rail. and the harness locking handle is made out of 1 piece aluminum. the black knob is from a "garden fence lock" I found at the hardware store. Put some polymer filler in it to attach it to the aluminum.
Whisky One Posted November 11, 2012 Author Posted November 11, 2012 (edited) A little update overhere. I made the oxygen bottle, the mount and all the other handles. The ejection handles are made from mdf wood and aluminum with a polymer filler. thanks to Deadman's decals they came out pretty nice. In the future I will make some more accurate handles. I'm also in the process of buying a house and I have a spare room that will become the simroom  I will post some pictures of the seat building progress in a while. the pics are the dry setup. I will make the mount for the emergency parachute release handle and something to complete the oxygen bottle and some more. Edited November 11, 2012 by Whisky One 1
Deadman Posted November 11, 2012 Posted November 11, 2012 Wow That looks great you have done a fantastic job on your ACES II https://forum.dcs.world/topic/133818-deadmans-cockpit-base-plans/#comment-133824 CNCs and Laser engravers are great but they can't do squat with out a precise set of plans.
JG14_Smil Posted November 11, 2012 Posted November 11, 2012 Great job! I enjoyed seeing your project.
Whisky One Posted December 29, 2012 Author Posted December 29, 2012 (edited) update: I bought an original seatback cushion with some honeywell switches and a resin arming handle from a guy at VP. I followed his blog and found out he was selling his items. I also recently found an old harness with risers It's all complete and the fittings work. I am going to clean all parts with some ballistol gun cleaner. I think it looks a lot like a PCU-15 with uwars fittings. The inertia reel is an old seatbelt roller with some nylon straps. I installed it in the fake seat container (hard to reach for screws so just 2 big screws and a lot of bison kit. The risers will be placed properly and connected to the seatbelt roller to get a nice tensioning effect. I made some canopy breaker lookalikes from 1.0 mm aluminium. I will soon finish the parachute container and fix the small parts like the handles. Edited September 25, 2014 by Whisky One
Whisky One Posted January 11, 2013 Author Posted January 11, 2013 (edited) Hi guys thanks for the inspiration. I attached some cheap metal parts to connect the tensioner straps to the risers (riser strap tensioner roller or something?) . In the future I will try to replicate the rollers or buy real ones. I made some progress on the left side of the parachute container. I stapled some black canvas to the side and worked with some aluminium with rivets made for leather. Also found out that using a drill really helps with making holes much faster :music_whistling: Some magnet strips are holding the handles in place. In some time I will try to replicate some hinges. I will install the risers on the front edge of the container where they should be. Then I'll make some green cords to connect the risers to the metal parts that are connected to the tensioner inside the seat. But I had to post the temporary setup!!! Yesterday my early weekend started so I had a couple of beers and was cleaning my harness with ballistol. I strapped myself in for the first time and then found out that one fitting got stuck. I thought they are UWARS so I thought about urinating over myself to open the releases but fortunately after a good laugh about the idea I got out and with some extra ballistol they now work fine! :D Edited January 13, 2013 by Whisky One last picture
Whisky One Posted January 28, 2013 Author Posted January 28, 2013 (edited) Ow yes I went black on the container.:music_whistling: The risers are fixed. I also started with drawing the pitot tubes from hell. :) I also permanently fixed the oxygen bottle and made some kind of lap belt from an old holster belt and a snap release used for fastening stuff. I might be moving in about a week so I at least got to finish the pitot tubes and the mount for the emergency parachute release. edited : I made the little support-bracket for the oxygen hose from 1mm aluminium. Whisky One Posted November 2, 2013 Author Posted November 2, 2013 Here is a small update from my new home. I got a dedicated sim room and I need to start building again but i'm very busy at work and in my weekends I got other cool stuff to do. I recently started skydiving so most of my money will go to jumping but I promise i'll work on my pit on weather holds!! :)
