Mt5_Roie
Since we have air units, naval units, and ground units. But will DCS World ever have capability to model submarine combat under the sea? Coder - Oculus Rift Guy - Court Jester

cichlidfan
That was WW2 Not really, patrols in WWII were never six months long, not enough supplies for one thing. Many were two months or less. EDIT: A standard patrol in WWII allowed for about 30 days on station (shorter if they used all their fish) with approximately 10 days to 2 weeks transit each way. EDIT2: At least for US forces. asparagin
WW2: check Milk Cows. The point I was making is that modern submarine war is not a tonnage war anymore. Edit 2: "U-196 under Korvkpt. Kentrat completed from 13 March, 1943 to 23 Oct, 1943 the longest patrol a submarine in WWII ever did (225 days at sea)." I have the strange feeling that we need a mentalist next time... as I still can't see a relation to your "point" :D -anyway- I think that this might be possible very soon to control subs in all details. - just check back on these forum in 2027

Weltensegler
Submarines might take some time but ships? ...maybe the object type needs to be changed other than that it shouldn't be too hard to implement their route then in CA. But one thing at a time :) lets enjoy CA beta soon first. 4790K@4,6Ghz | EVGA Z97 Classified | 32GB @ 2400Mhz | Titan X hydro copper| SSD 850 PRO ____________________________________ Moments in DCS: --> https://www.youtube.com/user/weltensegLA --> WELD's cockpit: --> http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=92274

asparagin
..you can still have naval skirmishes with subs in a modern context that get resolved in a time period suited for a sim like DCS. This is not always the case for ww2 scenarios due to that doctrine type. makes sense to you? PeterP
Yes - absolutely! :) But my point was that WW2/tonnage-war has nothing to do how long a mission goes.

ARM505
Modelling the underwater sound model requires highly specialised knowledge and is another field entirely. Hence Dangerous Waters (the core sound model by Sonalysts) remains unsurpassed in that field, despite it's general clunkiness by modern standards. Good luck getting somebody to invest in that highly niche world for a commercial entertainment (ie non-military) project. IMHO - it won't happen. It's just a totally, totally different world.
