redpiano Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 Hi, I don't have an FFB stick so I'm having difficulty using the trimmer without sending my chopper out of control, I understand it's possible to increase the amount of time between releasing the trim button and the trim actually going into effect so that I have enough time to center my stick? I looked through the stickies and found a page that says how to do this but when I open the FMOptions file the line they say to change isn't in the file, any idea how to change this?

redpiano Posted July 10, 2012 Author Posted July 10, 2012 Okay this may not be what's causing the problem, the trouble I'm having is that when I click the trim and release then move my stick back to center the aircraft doesn't hold the trim setting, say if I pull the stick to +10 degrees, click and release the trim button, it'll hold for maybe a second and then slowly start to go back down, do I have to constantly be retrimming and messing with the stick? Is it better to just forget the trim and fly without it? EDIT Also do I have to have all five of the blue autopilot buttons lit up to use the trim? Auto hover doesn't seem to work for me either, I click it and try to trim the chopper so it doesn't go forward but it just will not stop moving forwards.
PeterP Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 What you want to achieve ? fling constantly with a +10° nose up pitch while still maintaining your old flightpath? If the answer is "YES!" You should really start reading about the flight-physics-basics . So here comes my "standard Ka-50 newbie reply" : Read also besides the manual this: DCS: Black Shark... Technical, Simplified -Coaxial Rotor Aerodynamics -Trimming the Ka-50 Black Shark <<<!!!! very important to understand this fully! -Part 1 - Autopilot <<<this too! -Part 2 - Autopilot And when you still have time , read this too: A Stick and Rudder Man's Guide to DCS: Black Shark Here is a useful tweak if you using real rudders: How to unchain the rudder from trim - solution
Quirkitized Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 Make sure FFB is disabled in the options menu. Should help.
JG14_Smil Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 The BS and it's trim is unlike anything you've ever flown. Take time to practice the technique needed to fly it. You don't need to edit that file. RALT ENTER and practice moving the pippers around.
redpiano Posted July 10, 2012 Author Posted July 10, 2012 I think I figured it out, so when I trim the plane, say +10 degrees, the actual nose should return to center but the rotor blades are what are angled? So even when the nose returns to center I'll continue forward?

ShuRugal Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 Keep this box unticked: Problem solved :) backwards, if using a non-FFB and he needs time to center stick before inputs become active again, this box needs to be checked, not un-checked. That's all that needs to be done, checking this box will set it so that after you release the trimmer, the game will not accept any axis commands from the stick until the stick is centered again. I use this with my X52 to great effect.
redpiano Posted July 10, 2012 Author Posted July 10, 2012 Thanks Shu, I'll give that a shot. I think I have a handle on most of the trim now, I'm amazed at how quickly I've been able to grasp most of the systems in Blackshark as opposed to A10c where I spent several weeks with it and still never understood how to get up and shoot stuff. Very fun.

Quirkitized Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 Have you made sure FFB is disabled in the options? IIRC it's enabled by default.
RagnarDa Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 Have you made sure FFB is disabled in the options? IIRC it's enabled by default. Yes its off. I have good old Saitek X36 from -98 if that helps. DCS AJS37 HACKERMAN There will always be bugs. If everything is a priority nothing is.
ShuRugal Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 I've ticked this box and I don't notice any difference? try this: on the ground with engines at idle (so you have hydraulic power for the trimmer) press and hold trimmer, and move your stick about 3/4 forward. release the trimmer, then, without moving your stick to center, move your stick in a circle. the stick on the screen should remain forward, and the helicopter should not move any direction but forwards until your physical stick is centered.
Daniel M Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 Didn't notice if anyone replied RAlt+Enter gives you on screen display of your inputs, makes it easier to track what the helicopter "thinks" you are asking it to do
Dejjvid Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 Yes its off. I have good old Saitek X36 from -98 if that helps. If you tick that box, all control input will be ignored until you recenter both stick and rudder. So if you release trim, and do not recenter your controls, you'll notice that no one is flying your shark. And you will need to recenter everything, and then continue to fly. If you don't tick it, your controls will be considered centered after a short period of time (less then a sec, someone else can fill in). The only negative thing about this approach is that you will notice a small bump if your not fast enough to recenter the controls. I fly with the box unticked, because i rather have a bump from time to time, and not loose control when im not recentering the controls. i7 8700K | GTX 1080 Ti | 32GB RAM | 500GB M.2 SSD | TIR5 w/ Trackclip Pro | TM Hotas Warthog | Saitek Pro Flight Rudder [sigpic]http://www.132virtualwing.org[/sigpic]
