Cali likes his new machine! ;)

That is true and the family was out of town for that 2 1/2 weeks. They got back yesterday and it's back to the norm, flying or playing Arma mainly on Friday and Saturday nights.

Well they said somewhere that Arma 3's Linmos will be 2.4x bigger than Takistan, all the buildings will be enterable and detailed underwater:)

No I do not think CA is an Arma killer, because as people have said, getting infantry into DCS: World would be too difficult. You can walk around if you eject or bail out of a plane but that is the closest we are getting at the moment I think.

That's why I play arma only with ace-acre mods. And not only pistols were nerfed by Bohemia. Lee-enfield anyone ?

@Headspace: be a passenger in a car and you'll notice the mass de-sync. Be in a heli and you'll be ejected and die. This happens 9/10 of the times. The fact you don't see any lag/de-sync is because you go by foot.

Edit: the fact is that Bohemia is supporting Dayz too much, because it brought a lot of players (and money) for them. And Dayz is based a lot on pvp while arma was designed for a coop style.

1) Damage has not been touched.

2) Damage is related to the round a weapon fires, not the weapon itself.

3) De-sync was solved in patch 1.60.

4) Lag is now primary caused by a) Bad connection, b) Bad mission design, c) Bad addon design, d) Bad script design. Pick your poison.

5) DayZ is a BIS game. Of course they're going to support it.

Considering where the subject is drifting to, I guess it is appropriate that this thread refuses to die a natural death. ;)

And since this is a realistic FPS we're talking about it makes no real difference, since Arma does not simulate vests and wounding is also not fully realistic with vanilla. Does not really matter if you get hit by and AK or M4 - you're still down.

Anyway, I did a brief comparison of tank gameplay in Arma 2/SABOW/Balkans on Fire/Combined Arms. So far Balkans on Fire still win for my taste and Arma 2 is second (yeah I know, not a tank sim at all, but the feel is right when playing as commander).

Combined Arms falls short. Graphics are OK, except in the cities, but it does not have the proper feel. The most irritating immersion killer is the hud/sight/yellow glowy thing - this is really something from an arcade game and has to go at some point. I'm not talking about a real cockpit, but something like Arma has would be better for giving the impression of being in a tin can.

Also, there is no option to open the hatch and look around (wider view). Engine is not simulated, yet we have the handbrake and gear, while driving with WSAD - kinda weird, not to mention that we are both driver and gunner. Since we can tell the AI to move to a specific point or attack a specific target, I think it would be possible to have roles in the tank. The potential is there for sure, hope ED can capitalize on that. At this point however, Arma-killer... just no. :music_whistling:

Preacher;1524575']Having tried out a little bit of CA (and having played ArmA for several years)' date=' I can definitely see the potential for it to be an ArmA-killer (or at least a strong competitor!) if ED decide to develop the infantry aspect. ArmA is great for infantry combat, but the relatively small map sizes and dumbed-down aircraft flight dynamics and controls make aircraft (especially fast aircraft) somewhat useless. Combining the goodness of DCS aircraft fidelity with infantry capability would be amazing so I *strongly* implore ED to pursue this. There are many in the ArmA community looking for the next level of fidelity. The serious combined arms game market is ripe for some competition (given that there is pretty much only ArmA out there) and it would seem to make commercial sense for ED to tap into this [i']established market that is eager for alternatives[/i].

If ED can work on increasing ground-level detail (using procedural methods), I can really see CA shining in this space.

My own view both ED and Bis are likely to be in competition later on due to the fact that Bis is moving into more detailed simulation not only on the ground but also aircraft. The Arma2 has a patch to allow for Take on Helicopters to be used in Arma2 and ACE2 has a patch to make use of that as well. So Arma3 plus the take on Helicopters etc may well wind up competing with DCS series. Looking at DCS CA is similar to looking at Take on helicopters, both are examples of where both companys are expanding their sims into other areas.

What I don't like is that we have to wait until ArmA 3 to see even the basic infantry simulation fixed, e.g. poor animations, poor physics.

Does ArmA 2 still lag as much as I remember? At one point I quit MP completely on my 50 ms latency connection because of too much units warping.

What sim are you using? Perhaps you should try ACE2 for Arma2 its the most realistic mod.

Yep. I see both companies moving towards one another, Arma2 STRONGLY and DCS more weakly. Arma2 will become strong competition against DCS for its more casual players. If DCS doesn't work on getting ground forces in, all it will be left with is the hardcore flight simmers (and we know how few there are left). DCS has to move towards Arma and FPS to survive.
