In A-10C 1.2 I am finding that the GBU-38 fails to release more often than not. Is this a known bug, or am I doing something wrong? I had no problem in 1.1.1.1 doing exactly the same thing.

Also in 1.2 the GBU-12 won't destroy a bridge whilst it would in 1.1.1.1 is this correct?

GBU-38, can you tell me what, exactly, it reads in the box for the ordinance rack? Be sure you are holding the pickle long enough, you mentioned you employed them in 1.1.1.1, but be sure.

Walk me through the process you deploy GBU-38's with.

Correct, GBU-12's will not destroy bridges, you will need to use GBU-24s or GBU-31s. (whether this is intended on ED's part or not - that I don't know.)

Process to deploy GBU-38. 1.Lock Target (in this case a bridge) via TGP .2. Select GBU-38 in DSMS screen. 3.Select CCRP mode. 4. Line up vertical line with the double circle .Watch the two pointers unwind from 1 o'clock position, when the two pointers separate & the inner circle winds backwards, hold down the weapon release button for several seconds. At this point in 1.1.1.1 the bomb releases. In 1.2 generally (but not always) nothing happens & the bomb remains on the rack.

Hope this helps towards a solution. Not being very PC wise I don't know how to post a track.

Maybe I misunderstood your description, but you do have the range marker inside the two pointers on the circle, right?

Only hold down the pickle button once you see the MAN REL cue in the HUD and not before. Are you doing so? Not clear from your post.

Two things you can check (from my failing memory, can be innacurate)

- the bomb must be shown as RDY on the DSMS, and not ALN UNS. If it's not RDY you may try to do a 360° to correct the problem,

- your INS must be fully aligned. If not, IIRC you may not be able to switch on the EAC anyway. The bomb might never go into RDY state if the INS isn't fully aligned.

Hope this helps :)

Easy. Once you have flown the mission sufficiently to show what they want to see, press the ESC key as always and exit. You will see an option to the save a track. Select that, give the track file (xxx.trk) a name, and save it.

Come back to this thread, and reply. Before you click the SUBMIT REPLY button, scroll down a bit and you'll see the Attach Files section. Click the MANAGE ATTACHMENTS button. In the box that opens, click the first BROWSE button and navigate to where you saved the track. Select it and click UPLOAD. Once it's uploaded, close the box, and SUBMIT you post.

I couldn't drop the GBU-38 as well last night, as I had ALN UNS under the weapon indicator in the DSMS... I had the target locked on TMS, was in CCRP mode, and was lined up on the target properly, with the range circle forming and the MAN REL cue coming up on the HUD, but no release.

I guess I need to do some reading to figure out how to align the EGI so the ALN UNS is not displayed and RDY does display - any quick hints?

Thanks.

;)

To fully align the INS during ramp start you just need to wait long enough before switching it to NAV mode. Wait until it shows T=4.0 0.8 ;)

Thanks!

Thanks guys for all the help. I was not waiting for the man release cue before pressing the pickle button. This didn't seem to matter in 1.1.1.1

Thought I'd sorted the release problem, but! I am heading towards the target bridge, checking the DSMS the GBU's show "ready". Then nearing the target the GBU's show "aln ready". In this state they won't release i.e. it seems they are realigning. Doing a complete 360 degree turn changes the GBU's back to "ready" & then they will release.

Can anyone explain this? The INS is fully aligned prior to take off.

Pretty sure they don't talk to the aircraft, so no.

Is there a way to realign the GBU's in flight?

Pretty sure it's slaved to the EDI, isn't it? If so:

(edit: someone else said no. anyways, while we're talking about it, here's your EGI in-flight alignment info)

CDU -> SYS -> NAV -> INS -> ALIGN

On the right side, you should have a few options. One is GROUND, which is how you start your stationary/parked alignment... and just below it, is your INFLT alignment!

From the DCS A-10C Flight Manual EN, page 191:

INFLT (In Flight) Alignment, R5. If the INS alignment needs to be re-aligned while the aircraft is in flight or moving on the ground, this option is used. This alignment process uses current position and velocity measurements from the INS. Before starting an in flight alignment, EGI, STR PT and ANCHR should be deselected from the Navigation Mode Select Panel or select HARS. The EGI GPS will then be used to align the EGI INS. This process can take between 5 and 10 minutes.
See also, right under it (both in the manual and on the CDU screen)

NAV (Navigation), R7. After alignment is complete, indicated by the flashing INS NAV RDY annunciation, you can press the NAV LSK to place the INS out of alignment mode and into navigation mode.

Depends on the bridge. Was it the same bridge?

You need to hold down the weapon release for quite a while with the JDAMs to get them to release, it's not instantaneous because the GPS data is being downloaded prior to release.

You should lock a target, maintain the target line inside the target reticule, and hold the weapon release down until release once the unwinding circle is between the two triangular markers in the target reticule.
