New gun pod for the A-10?

Hey guys,

 

Found this site on A-10 ammo after doing some research from a recent yard sale acquisition.

The big thing from the article is the

GPU-5A gun pod. Is this used on the A-10? And might there be a chance we can have it in our sim in the future?

I thought it would be neat if you could put two to four of these on an A-10 and have all guns fire, but shorter bursts that would put more rounds on target. Well I thought it would be fun anyways. :D

Last I heard, this pod is very inaccurate, and not used at all by anyone.

 

No reason to put it on the A-10. It was intended for other aircraft AFAIK.

It holds five 2 seconds bursts.

On accuracy - a dispersion of 6mr instead of the GAU-8's 0,6mr? That's a pretty big deal. And then, to top it all off, only 353 rounds... No reason at all to ever put that on something that already has a GAU-8. :P

It was used on the F-16 and F-5. They had some accuracy with a central mounting on the F-16 but the wing pylons were generally not strong enogh for the recoil:

And why would the A-10 need an external gun pod? This was tested on other ACFT because at one time the USAF wanted to retire the A-10 and replace them with 16s.
