jib Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 (edited) I was trying to fly to waypoint 10 or 11 which the in game text said was at 22,000 feet but I couldn't climb high enough before the engine power died because of high altitude. I looked in the editor and it was set to 30,000 feet. Thanks. Sergeal Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 (edited) I have the same problem - I just can't get to 30 000 ft because engine loses power. I've spent whole day trying to climb but didn't succeed =( Tried to change realism settings to "game" mode - didn't help. Edited January 6, 2013 by Sergeal

Sergeal Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 By now my best result is 26 300. After that plane just loses speed at any climbing rate. I wonder if Eagle Dynamics thinks that making people spend around 2 hours to climb 30 000 ft for nothing is fun. How does anyone enjoy 2 hours of doing nothing but monitoring climbing speed and plane speed? I mean it is totally aimless. It's boring as hell. It's annoying. Game says that campaign is going to evolve from easy tasks to hard tasks. Well it is not like that at all. Climbing 30 000 is hard as hell and it's just mission 07.
sobek Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 Climbing 30 000 is hard as hell and it's just mission 07. I'm pretty certain that there's something wrong in your approach as i've reached 30000 feet with relative ease. If you would post a track i could tell you what exactly. Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Come let's eat grandpa! Use punctuation, save lives!
Sergeal Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 If you would post a track i could tell you what exactly. I'd love to but I can not find last mission replay file. Could you please say where is it? Last time I ran out of 2 fuel tanks while I only managed to get to 26 300 and so I did quit the game. I wonder if last mission replay is autosaved.
Sergeal Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 Finally I found the TRK file. Was pretty hard to find it, even with the help of google. Here it is: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/24625844/LastMissionTrack.trk I noticed that I didn't close the cabin, however even after I did close it in the middle of the flight it didn't affect anything as far as I understood.
DD_Fenrir Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 I had the same issue - took me 5 mins of flying around and checking round the cockpit till finally *bing* the lightbulb went and realised when I had started the engine and moved the fuel mixture lever, I had left clicked it into auto-rich; I was doing this regularly too! At high alt the mixture is too rich (fuel heavy) to generate the required power because of the reduced air density, even supercharged. Check that you are selecting auto-run (or right click) with the mixture lever on start-up. You should have no problem after that.
Sergeal Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 Check that you are selecting auto-run (or right click) with the mixture lever on start-up. You should have no problem after that. I'am afraid I don't understand what you are speaking about. You suggest changing something about mixture but I don't really understand. As far as I remember, not much has been told in tutorial about changing mixture and how and when it is necessary to change the fuel mixture. I've found two weird levers near the RPM and throttle levers. It is possible to rotate these levers clockwise and counterclockwise. I never touched it before. What should I do with it and when? What direction should I rotate it to? I tried rotating during the flight and didn't notice any change in engine's behavior or sound.
159th_Viper Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 I'am afraid I don't understand what you are speaking about. Look at pages 80 and 81 of the manual. There is a diagram as well as explanation of the mixture settings. You want the Mixture Control Lever set to RUN. Novice or Veteran looking for an alternative MP career? You want the Mixture Control Lever set to RUN. Thank you, but Mixture Control Lever was set to RUN. So it looks like I didn't understand DD_Fenrir or he was wrong thinking that I used FULL RICH instead of RUN mixture. So the problem persists.
Sergeal Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 By the way - for some reason during campaign Rudder, Aileron and Elevator do not work. I mean I can rotate these thingies as much as I want without any effect. But when I play missions etc - Rudder Aileron and Elevator work just right. Maybe it is somehow connected to the issue. So the "track" file is here and I'd appreciate it a lot if you watch it and help me.
159th_Viper Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 Maybe it is somehow connected to the issue.... Have you tried climbing to 30 000ft and above in another, separate mission? Always a good idea if one encounters a problem/issue to attempt to replicate it in another self-made mission. If nothing else, will eliminate possible mission-related problems. Be that as it may, back to the problem, ie inability to climb to 30 000ft: Herewith enclosed find a track and video (in case of track replay issues) illustrating a flight from Sukhumi-Babushara to Sochi-Adler. Have a look at what happens in-pit and do yourself. If I can do it then You can too. I take off from Sukhumi and immediately dial in the Maximum Continuous Engine Rating of 27 RPM/46 in. HG and set attitude for a climb at 170 mph IAS. What is important here is to maintain the climb speed at 170, not lower than 160. Watch the Manifold Pressure gauge and adjust Throttle as needed to maintain the desired setting of 46 in. HG as closely as possible. Throughout the climb I utilized no trim. AXpHcuZ_Ydw Keep the climb speed and she'll climb like a lovesick Angel. From takeoff it took me 18 minutes of steady climb to reach 33 800 feet AGL. At this stage I was over Sochi. I cut back, descended, Run-and-Break and landed. Was no need to toggle tanks either, where I started with a 50% fuel load. I'll attach track and mission file for sake of completeness. Track: P-51 Climb.trk Mission: New Mission.miz Hope this Helps. Novice or Veteran looking for an alternative MP career? Click me to commence your Journey of Pillage and Plunder! Sergeal Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 Didn't have much time today, but I played my own replay of fail climb and video-captured it. Now you can see it on youtube here: http://youtu.be/AAiQI_u4HvE (it may take a while before youtube process the video and make it available in HD) However after around 50 mins plane crashed in the replay despite the fact that I didn't crash during that flight. But even though this video is enough to demonstrate you that something is very wrong and engine does not produce enough power for some reason. Please take a look at video. Meanwhile I'll try to climb, launching other missons etc to see if problem persists. P.S. I just loaded 159th_Viper's TRK, took control in the middle of the flight and climbed 30 000 easy as hell. It felt like engine was twice more powerful than engine given to me during the campaign. Rudder, Aileron and Elevator function properly (and do not function at all during campaign or "instant action" missions for some reason). P.P.S. Loaded "New Mission.miz" file provided by 159th_Viper to test rudder, aileron and elevator functionality. I twisted these thingies like a madman without any affect. You can watch video captured about this bug here: http://youtu.be/Jom-osHm0SY Any explanation?
Sergeal Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 (edited) Well, I found the problem. Eagle Dynamics offers options "Game flight mode" and "Game avionics mode" in "gameplay" tab, but one of these things makes engine lose around 50% of its power and it also disables rudder, aileron and elevator. When I was learning how to operate guns I enabled game flight and avionics modes so it was easier to focus on gunnery. At first you may think that GAME flight mode makes flying easier. Well, if fact it makes campaign impossible to play. Dear Eagle Dynamics testers, please enable "Game flight mode" and "Game avionics mode" and then complete campaign mission 07 with these options enabled so you make sure it is freaking impossible. I've spent two evenings of my holyday in order to find a damn bug. I've been so nervous that I nearly smashed my keyboard. I've read tons of forums posts. You know what? Some people complained about the fact that Mustang’s engine ingame is not powerful enough and that in real life it is much more powerful. ED representatives said that is not true and engine is just like on a real plane. Well now I understand. The man, who complained used "Game avionics mode". And his engine power sucked indeed. So much disappointment, so much time wasted. Thank you ED... Edited January 8, 2013 by Sergeal
ctguy1955 Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 (edited) I watched the above video and He helped me to figure out that I needed the super charger on to reach the green square in mission 10. Edited September 9, 2014 by ctguy1955
Zabuzard Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 I watched the above video and He helped me to figure out that I needed the super charger on to reach the green square in mission 10. Now I went to do the mission and its says Im dead and have to re do ALL 9 campaign missions all over again ? Is there any way I can get back my one death as this is crazy. Hey there, pls don't post your questions on other threads too. It's already answered there: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=87795&page=55
