Never played the original, but I'm sure it didn't become a classic on pure luck. :D I'm sure you have, but if you haven't then check out the game play vids of X-Com EU, it's just brilliant!

I miss Silent Storm, and its exp packs.

Never played the original either, but XCom EU is looking really good. Will be a first day purchase for me.

Silent Storm! Such a brilliant but sadly such underrated game. I'd buy a sequel in a heartbeat.

I still had a pile of the old CD's from SS, and then found Silent Storm Gold on gog.com for 10 bucks! Could not resist. Now if I could find some time to play it again....

What utter disappointment. The terrible user interface I can live with, but why they don't let you control all the camera movements with your mouse is beyond me. Also, you can only move your soldiers to a grid specified by the game. WTH? You can't click at the enemy to shoot it! WHAT? The game tells you who to shoot and all you had to do is hit space and the game switches to some kind of cinematic mode where you have to wait until it's over before issuing another command. ARGGH!

Yeah, I heard the demo is crap, and you only have minutes worth of actually freedom. Most of it is scripted, and you have to do the tutorial. Oh well, not the best demo, but at least the game will be out soon.

I hope this isn't indicative of what is to come because this demo ruined it for me for sure. Back on the fence I go. I wanted squad-based Jagged Alliance in a sci-fi settings but I guess they thought it'd be cool to add cinematic crap to the action.

Just got done playing the demo, and its pretty weak. BUT....according to the xcom forum, the demo is so limited compared to the real game it has some folks pissed off.

So, it looks like the hand holding demo is not how the game is. From the video gameplays, it looks totally different. So fear not.

The last few posts remind me of an article I read several years ago about why a pre-release demo is always pointless.

People who would pre-order have already pre-ordered. A good demo will bring in extra customers whether it's put up before or after release.

A bad demo before release may put off people who had - or would have - pre-ordered.

I think the article was in relation to the demo for the first Dead Space. A game whose demo was notoriously unrepresentative.

I´m not impressed from the demo to. Same here with: "Why the hell we cannot rotate with mouse!?" and yes, all seems simplyfied. Moving grids, aiming helpers and so on. An inherited from the console`s again?

Another observation was that it probably have a problem with Line of Sight(cliping?, collision detection?). My soldier was shooting from a roof through! the corner of that house and was hiting the alien.

Sure with all that base stuff, research and so on not available in the demo a huge part left what made the original game for me.

Soundeffects are nice, though the music in the original game was more oppressive to me.

Allready pre-ordered it.

EDIT: Haven`t seen that yet? Demo Editor: http://forums.2kgames.com/showthread.php?140536-Demo-Editor-I-just-Made You can play against other alien types. Cool.

Sun starts shining... :D

Played demo, yes - old memories come back. Im ready for the 12.10.12.

Just pity about unlimited ammo of guns.

The engine was amazing at the time, but too bad the game mixed in the sci-fi elements. What a waste of an engine. With some Western company handling the story and the production (voice acting, etc.), it could have been a hit (e.g. smth like Wages of War missions and pre-mission stuff and this engine). Hammer & Sickle was a better attempt, but was rather hard and unforgiving.

A few years back, they considered using the engine for Jagged Alliance 3 and there were even some youtube test videos of it, but then they canceled it again (for the umpteenth time). The engine was rather old by that time, though, although I guess I'd enjoy that game-play type more than the BiA style.

I actually liked the sci-fi armors in SS. It was a rather good looking game with some funny one-liners, and the rag-doll physics was something else back then, too. :) They don't make turn-based game like that anymore.
