EddieMuntz Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 When the TVV has an arrow symbology either left or right what is it pointing to.

Eddie Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 It is indicating that the TVV is actually outside of the HUD FOV in the direction shown by the arrows.
Evil.Bonsai Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 (edited) It is indicating that the TVV is actually outside of the HUD FOV in the direction shown by the arrows. It's pointing at SPI.. If SPI is visible in HUD area, the SPI has a tail pointing at the TVV. If the SPI is outside the HUD, theTVV has a tail pointing at the SPI. Er, nm. Misread the 'arrow symbology'. Thought he meant pointer. I'll admit to not having seen the 'arrow' symbology'. Is this a a case of REALLY side-slipping in flight? I've had the TVV off-center, but never so far I couldn't see it. 159th_Viper Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 Relevant to windy conditions. Fly/manoeuvre in a cross-wind to induce HUD drift and you'll see. 159th_Viper Posted September 22, 2012 Posted September 22, 2012 (edited) Eddie is correct. It is not the SPI Locater line nor a North indicator. Windy conditions induce HUD drift which in turn causes the TVV to drift outside the HUD's FOV. Arrow-head indicates real position of TVV. Dethmagnetic Posted September 22, 2012 Posted September 22, 2012 It indicates that there is a strong crosswind. The arrow points in the direction you are being blown by the wind. Check out the A-10 free flight air start mission - it has a really strong crosswind, and you will see the arrow if you're flying perpendicular to the wind.
