joyrider11 Posted September 22, 2012 Posted September 22, 2012 Is there a "textbook" way to land on a rooftop ? I couldn't find any mention of this in the forums.
shagrat Posted September 22, 2012 Posted September 22, 2012 align with the building, check for obstacles, bring her down in one piece, step and stand(!) on the brakes. The difficult part is the same as on the airfield, hover and sink her slowly. ...and keep away from the edge of the roof! You'll loose the ground effect :D Shagrat - Flying Sims since 1984 - Win 10 | i5 10600K@4.1GHz | 64GB | GeForce RTX 3090 - Asus VG34VQL1B | TrackIR5 | Simshaker & Jetseat | VPForce Rhino Base & VIRPIL T50 CM2 Stick on 200mm curved extension | VIRPIL T50 CM2 Throttle | VPC Rotor TCS Plus/Apache64 Grip | MFG Crosswind Rudder Pedals | WW Top Gun MIP | a hand made AHCP | 2x Elgato StreamDeck (Buttons galore)

I mistundertood your question, landing on the Akula's rooftop and with gear up sounds wierd to me :music_whistling::lol: Per aspera ad astra! 159th_Falcon Posted September 22, 2012 Posted September 22, 2012 Not really a textbook for it no. But it can help to open the cockpit door and approach the roof flying sideways. This way you have a much better overview of your landing area. No idea how realistic it is, but it helps. This summer I saw a rescue-chopper land on a very tight space on a small island in the Swedish western archipelago. Door open, pilots head sticking out. DCS AJS37 HACKERMAN There will always be bugs. Zomba Posted September 24, 2012 Posted September 24, 2012 I normally go in sideways, just easier to see things. I watched a doco on the Falklands war and noticed that the carrier borne helos would approach offset to the side to the carrier as it steamed into the wind. When they drew adjacent to their landing pad they would then come to a hover and crab in sideways and land. I guess a lot of that had to do with not wanting to fly over the deck with other helos there, but it looked like the vision would have been pretty good doing it that way. I don't test for bugs, but when I do I do it in production.
