Yes in this instanced yes. I have the escort AI escorting me and the AI is a SEAD. I have it starting at the runway delayed 1min after I take off the AI will come online. Once I take off I hit F2 to see what the AI will do and it takes off and just circles the Airport. The AI only comes to Escort me only after Im being engaged by a SAM.

The Follow command is buggy too for helicopters.

I have been trying to get a UH-1 to follow a CH47 with both set to ramp start, which does not work. I also tried giving the UH-1 one waypoint with an orbit command and the follow command which does not work either.

The CH47 takes longer to start up than the UH-1, hence the waypoint and orbit command.

My mission file is attached:

The Helo "land" option is awesome! Great work! Now let me have a helo takeoff feature as well! ;-)

I don't need no stinkin' GPS! (except for PGMs :D) :pilotfly:

Well have it land at mission start and stay there until the STOP condition is met. It will then take-off and go on its route as set.

Druid,

Thanks for your help and information. I was able to get Follow to work:

I had a UH-1 and a CH47D both set to ramp start. I gave the CH47 a series of waypoints. I also gave the UH-1 two way points. The first waypoint I gave an orbit command and the second waypoint I gave the follow command. I had the timing set for the second waypoint so that both helicopters would be in the air in close proximity at waypoint two.

The UH-1 then followed the CH47. I had the CH47 set to land at waypoint 5 along its route, and then takeoff again after one minute on the ground. The UH-1 follows to waypoint 5, but as soon as the CH47 starts to land, the UH-1 returns to base.

Is there anyway to get the UH-1 to resume the follow command once the CH47 takesoff again and continues on its route?

Not automatically no. The lead is landing so as far as the AI is concerned he can no longer follow and will continue to the next WPT on his route or land at nearest Base if one isn't set.

There is a way though using a second follow action. Set him to follow as far as the leads WPT with 'LAND'action in the follow options menu. Place a WPT on your follow heli nearby to the landing helis WPT (this should be the next WPT after the WPT in which you placed the 'follow' action) and then another WPT close by in which you put an ORBIT action with a stop condition of FLAG 1 tick. after that put another WPT with a follow action with a start condition of FLAG 1 tick (= true).

Place a 100m trigger zone around the landing point of the heli called ldg zone.

In trigger rules add

ONCE -> landing heli in ldg zone AND landing heli alt < number (check height of terrain in ME and add 5m) -> SET FLAG 2
ONCE -> TIME SINCE FLAG 2 > 60 (give him time to land in the ldg zone) AND landing heli ALT > number (=he's airborne again) -> SET FLAG 1 (follow heli will leave orbit & follow)

Druid,

I followed your instructions, but apparently did not get it right.

Here is the file if you have time to take a look -

Not sure where you got the alt 611 from as when I hover my mouse over the landing area the ME tells me its 73m there (bottom left of ME). UNITS ALT < x , x is in metres. So I changed your altitude to 77.

Fine tuning: You need to put the land icon (white triangle) a little further away from the WPT and no need to come in so slow. Land action will take care of deceleration.

Ok so after all of the above, the bad news, it still won't work. I've be trying several workarounds but none work. Its a bug whereby after the follow is finished it RTBs, it shouldn't. It should proceed to the next WPT after the 'follow' action WPT.

With the above changes your miz works fine in my testers build. This fix is also on the list to be ported to 1.2.1 soon. Sorry this isn't much help to you.

Druid,

It does help, thanks! I have been trying all kinds of different workarounds, and looked at your mission in the mission editor and duplicated how you went about it with the trigger rules, etc.. and it still did not work.

Maybe the elevation difference is due meters vs. feet. I use feet and knots. Oh yeah, I was watching the altitude when the landing helo started its landing sequence, and that is how I came up with the altitude. The CH47 has kind of a long approach landing sequence. Guess all that was unnecessary.

So good to know its a bug, and not something I have been doing wrong.

Has follow AI now been implemented?

Seems to me that the follow command now works with player aircraft (version 1.2.2), is that correct?

Sorry but I tried many times last night (with most recent version of DCSW) and follow command didnt seem to work with my player AC...

Both follow and escort can be set at any waypoint as a waypoint action or used in a triggered action. The LAST WPT when ticked allows you to set at which WP of the GROUP aircraft ('New Airplance Group' in the example) you want to stop following or escorting. The aircraft will then proceed directly to the next WPT it is yet to sequence on its route.

I could not get the last part to work. At least in my testing it seems that Escort->Escort and Escort->Follow works differently than SEAD->Escort and SEAD->Follow.

To exemplify I modified your "follow_example.miz" so the "follow on left" is using the "Escort->Follow" and the "follow on right" is using the "SEAD->follow".

Now the "follow on left" is just flying in a straight line when done following - eventually landing before running out of fuel...

I believe this is a bug that occurs in 1.2.2. However I ran the mission in a testers build and it worked as intended both escort fighters RTB'd to the correct location, so I think the bug should be fixed.

The right man in the wrong place makes all the difference in the world.

Grimes, do you know if this has been resolved, or if there's a work around to allow an aircraft to follow a non-host client?

It's a good thing that this is Early Access and we've all volunteered to help test and enhance this work in progress... despite the frustrations inherent in the task with even the simplest of software... otherwise people might not understand that this incredibly complex unfinished module is unfinished. /light-hearted sarcasm

I have made an escort function in moose that works with mp clients . Check my videos on my youtube channel. Find moose reference in my signature.

Sorry if it was already asked. Is there an easy way (no scripts) to use follow on groups from opposing fractions. I was trying to setup a simple air policing mission with AI but follow action allows only to pick groups from the same side.

F/A-18, F-16, F-14, M-2000C, A-10C, AV-8B, AJS-37 Viggen, F-5E-3, F-86F, MiG-21bis, MiG-15bis, L-39 Albatros, C-101 Aviojet, P-51D, Spitfire LF Mk. IX, Bf 109 4-K, UH-1H, Mi-8, Ka-50, NTTR, Normandy, Persian Gulf... and not enough time to fully enjoy it all

Okay so if I get a two ship of mirage to follow a two ship of eagles and set the last wpt to stop - will the mirage turn around and to all the way back to their next waypoint after they started following?

They take off for waypoint 1.

Start their follow at waypoint 2. (They follow the eagles through to the eagles waypoint number 8) and then stop following.

Do the mirage go to their specific waypoint 3?
