A-10C Clarification Needed as to DCS World Purchase / Comapability?

Recommended Posts

Posted

I purchased DCS: A-10C on February 24, 2011. My current DCS version is 1.1.1.1 . To use DCS: A-10C in DCS World do I need to purchase an additional license, or is the upgrade for World just an upgrade patch of what I have previously purchased last year?

I know I played the beta in DCS World for the A-10C, but I only see the one purchase.

My current record shows my only purchase of the A-10C is now version 1.22 for DCS World.

Thanks

Download DCSW Installer,

Install

Download A-10C 1.2.2 Module Installer,

Install.

Boot DCS World, Allow it to update if needed.

Setup a Quick Mission with the A-10C,

After Loading it will ask for Activation Key, use your A-10C 1.1.1.1 Key.

If HDD Space is an Issue you can uninstall A-10C 1.1.1.1

The DCS A-10C License / Key qualifies for the A-10C module. World is free and doesn't require a license or key.

Whatever module you purchased for DCS, be it 1.1.1.1 or earlier qulifies for the DCS World modules as well.

Its the same licence, but different software about the same product.

DCS world is something larger where different ED products come together. A-10C is one of these products (module). DCS World is the platform on which these different modules function on.

When your stand-alone A-10C software is activated, your DCS Worlds A-10C module should be too when DCS world will be installed on the same OS.

Great thread! Thanks for asking the question

I'm glad I finally found the answer here without duplicating someone else's question in a new thread, so BZ to ErichVon, and to those who've replied with the answers to my question.

I too have had the standalone version of DCS Black Shark and DCS A-10C Warthog, but after learning about DCS World, I looked for answers to my questions about how to go about installing or getting my previously purchased license key to be recognized in DCS World. So, thanks again for this thread, however, I must wait for a couple of fellow online friends I've been flying with cooperatively to complete the process of getting DCS World installed and completing this process so we can be on the same version.

Cheers!

Holy cow! If that isn't a confusing statement!... I don't know what it is. I've spent the last 3 days trying to figure this out! I sure as hell wasn't going to purchase the game twice! And that is all I could understand you may have to do in order to play A-10 in the DCS World.

You state to "Download A-10C 1.2.2 Module Installer". What is this and where do I find it?

You also state: "When your stand-alone A-10C software is activated, your DCS Worlds A-10C module should be too when DCS world will be installed on the same OS." .............. I do NOT find this to be true at all.

Thank you for sort of clarifying this mess for me.

I really wish ED would make this point much clearer on their website. Every single day there are people on these forums asking about this very topic, and they are all confused (understandably so).

Actually, the entire website is rather confusing and doesn´t explain things well at all. I don´t even wanna think about how many potential new customers ED has already lost due to this mess.

To upgrade from A-10 stand alone to 1.2.2:

Download DCS World - http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/index.php?ProductId=21&end_pos=137&scr=product&lang=en (this is EN version)

Download DCS A-10C - http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/index.php?scr=product&ProductId=8&end_pos=136&lang=en (this is EN version)

Go into mission editor, place a player controlled A-10C on the map and start mission.

DCS World will ask for your activation key, which is the same one that came with A-10 stand alone.

That's true. I'm a bit biased because I've been here all the way since Black Shark (when A-10C was still in Beta, there was no "World", and Nevada was about to be released really soon), so I took all the developments in as they happened.

Then again, around here we've got all the info and the software in one place. I remember the old days when I tried to get back into Falcon 4.0. First, do a clean install from CD (yes, it came on a CD, not a DVD), then apply patch 107de and 108us (I've still got these patches on my disc, weighing in at around 10 and 18 MB respectively, because finding them on the web was nothing short of a nightmare). On top of that, install SuperPAK3 and then the SuperPAK4 updater, but it was generally considered necessary to get Tom's HiTiles (either old ones for free or new ones for a bit of cash). And that was after the F4 Unified Team had come together to make things really simple.

But seriously, people on this forum have given lots of very good, concise explanations for what World and the modules are and how they differ from the legacy standalone versions. I don't understand why ED won't get someone to update their website to explain all this stuff to newcomers so they won't scare away those that don't take the time to look it all up in the forum.

Not to come off like a jerk, but it isnt that hard to grasp how to install DCS World + Modules.

I came into DCS World not too long ago (2-3 months maybe) and didnt have any issues with getting up and running.

Just a little research before I buy, and this http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/world/ from the homepage. A quick glance at these forums with a sticky called "What is DCS:World". I am not a very techie person, so if I can get it...I am sure others can as well.

Its not that confusing if someone takes 5 mins to read.

DCS World will ask for your activation key, which is the same one that came with A-10 stand alone.

Not required, just start any mission and when the Sim-Engine starts it will ask for missing keys, so you can activate.

I did not update, yet, as a previous attempt at updating World prevented me from adding the Warthog and Mustang. So I uninstalled and started over.

I now have installed DCS World, Warthog which is my DCS original 1.1.1.1, and the P-51D which I bought as a pre-purchase beta, all installed and working. I left that installation not updated as a virgin backup.

But trying to add my DCS Black Shark 2 which updated to 1.2.2

I am still having issues installing it without success, so far.

Yeah, I gave up a while ago and unfortunately they lost a customer. Make the process more intuitive! Why can't I simply "double click" an installer and bam! It just works. Especially if I already have the other games installed. Just my opinion!

That's exactly how it works?

Also, I just don't see how this is not clear..

All current and future DCS modules must now be installed into DCS World. DCS World acts as a "core module" that all other DCS modules operate within. You can think of DCS World as our simulation operating system.
