The concept (DCS World) is good, the outcome is, so far (i just own the p51d and the bs2) perfect, so, I can't stop asking myself if, by any chance, we could have in the future some military version of a well known civil aircraft.

The military versions of Beechcrafts, Cessnas, etc... are good examples.

From someone coming from the civil side of flight simulation because I am tired of not finding there what I look for in the first place - good flight dynamics and systems / engine / damage /etc... modelling, I dream of one day seeing a B200 military being announced :-)

Even a military version of the "Push-Pull" 337 (OA2), or a Cessna Bird Dog would do :-)

From the P-51D FAQ:

Q: How is the P-51 supposed to fit into DCS? This makes no sense to me.

A: DCS is an open simulation environment, not confined to any one era, level of fidelity, or 1st party development. In the future ED and 3rd parties may add all sorts of different units ranging from gliders to X-51s.

So indeed, why not? :)

That's very intereting :-)))) I didn't read it, otherwise I would not even have started the thread... So... my dreams are now reinforced :-)

I think the main reason we're not seeing many civilian aircraft developed for DCS is that we have such limited scenery to fly around in. As far as I know, civilian flight simmers like to fly from A to B and take in the sights, or run virtual airliners and what have you

Good god eth! spit.......spit........

I do hope thats a personal opinion?

Glider? Has NG more influence on this past the P-51? which.......incidentally, i was literally present for.

The quote of the FAQ was from Wags or Evilbivol. ED is open to anyone that wishes to create an aircraft for DCS world. I personaly would love to fly a small GA aircraft. A 152 aroebat with the AFM = Fun.

No where does this mean that ED will ever create a non military simulation. If a 3rd party makes one. Let them. ED will not stop them.

Exactly! It can only serve to bring more people to DCS which is good for everyone :)

Fair comment.

IMHO this will lead to passive mission servers.

We have enough trouble as it is keeping the fast movers off of slower ones on 'open' servers or even semi 'closed' ones. This, even when they are on the SAME SIDE.

Aye, indeed. Or every civilian flight ever would need a sizeable fighter escort!

Or just imagine if they follow through on their hints of a train simulator (!), probably not too good of an idea to drive around in a train with player A-10s around

Noooo, we don't want to see the world mapped (well, at least not in one hit)... trees and buildings are a big enough resource hog (bus choker) as it is.

mapping the world, is what choked FSX

actually MS's Code was rubbish.

Lockheed has taken their API and fixed nearly every issue with the engine.

Once 3rd Party terrain is available, I wouldnt be surprised if a 3rd party does a World Terrain, it would take time, and be a crazy Large download.

the only thing that prevents this is if ED has a Map Size Limit.

It's called DCS:WORLD for a reason (hint is in the name).

Sure, it was originally developed as a combat platform, but aircraft don't have to carry weapons. ;)

The base sim is outstanding - we need more scenery (heck - just a global terrain mesh and reasonably accurate water features would be a great start - "the world" already exists, computationally - just needs scenery).

Best regards,

Tango.

yeah, ability to fly around the world from airbase to airbase in MP would be fun (steal some of them FSX Military guys that only wanna fly).

The imagery used in DCS A-10C is referenced in WGS84: you only have to convert, on-the-fly, to the coordinate system you are using to take measures. And I it's not that difficult to model a spherical surface, as it is an numerical model with well known parameters. You only have to coordinate the geographical features transitions between adjacent map modules.

Yeah, tell me about it. A real PITA to startup and fly to the combat zone to find you dont have any weapons onboard :(
