TonyStovepipe Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 Hello all sorry for the newbie questions I have lol. I have thinking hard if I should get as I have facetracknoIR working ok to a point with the xbox 360 kinect. But problem with that is when it loses it's tacking you have to stop and start it again and in that time you could be dead if under attack. And the main problem is the camera has this little wobble even if your head is perfectly still, it makes it so hard to press buttons in the cockpit like that. So my questions are. Does trackIR lose tracking at all, and does it have head wobble problems ? I live in the uk and the only place I have found that has any sort of deal on is the flight store http://www.flightstore.co.uk/pilot-supplies-c1/torches-c179/track-ir-5-with-track-clip-pro-bundle-and-vector-clip-p2502 Anyone know any other good sites that might have a deal going on ? Thanks for help/advice you can give me. Cheers.
Picksplitter Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 I say don't hesitate.... best dollars I've ever spent for this game. Head wobble.... oh yeah, 'cause I'm not that steady myself. Thankfully, TrackIR has a pause button! ED Team BIGNEWY Posted December 31, 2012 ED Team Posted December 31, 2012 TrackIR although over priced and poor buissness practices is a game changer. Once you have it, you will not feel right flying without it Flightstore.co.uk is good and always post fast never had a problem with them :) Forum rules - DCS Crashing? Feed Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 Speaking as a longtime user of TrackIR, and someone who's experimented with FaceTrackNoIR and FreeTrack as well, I would say that TrackIR is in a class by itself (though I've never had anything set up with Kinect, so YRMV). TIR 5 uses a higher-resolution camera than before, and the proclip (which I strongly recommend, despite the fact that it could be a bit more robust) improves things even further. There are hotkeys to pause tracking and to recenter the view, and you can tailor the amount of response to suit your own preferences. Jitter will be almost nonexistent. Holding your head steady while working cockpit switches does take some practice, and some folks use a hotkey to pause tracking while they flip switches. It's like anything else - whatever works best for you.
TonyStovepipe Posted December 31, 2012 Author Posted December 31, 2012 Thanks all for your input and advice. I think will hit that buy button right after I make coffee lol Cheers
Zeke Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 I'd say, HIT that thing! :) I would also highly recommend the pro clip too. I've used TrackIR since the beginning and just got the pro clip this year, what a difference it makes. Simply fantastic!
TonyStovepipe Posted January 1, 2013 Author Posted January 1, 2013 I went for it in the end :D It was on a deal with the pro clip for £126 only 10% off not a great deal mind. Should be here in 4 days maybe :) Thanks again all now I need setup my other monitor so I can see the 2 mfd screens on the monitor if I can. Cheers.
badger66 Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 Took me almost a year to get Tir5 .... but now I have it , I would not be interesrted in playing any flight sim without it . Best money you will ever spend ..... get it !!! Someone above said "gamechanger" ..... understatement !!!
TonyStovepipe Posted January 1, 2013 Author Posted January 1, 2013 Well I thought if freetrack good for what it is and made flying the A10 better then the real product would be even better :D Can't wait now lol.

TonyStovepipe Posted January 1, 2013 Author Posted January 1, 2013 I will update here when I got it and let you know what I think, but I am 99% sure I will be very happy :) My fiancee thought I was mad spending over £100 on a camera for a game lol.
PoleCat Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 Good for you. Becomes like a HOTAS in its usefulness. Once you are used to it, you will not fly without it. The price is not high at all if you consider how many years you can enjoy a single TIR for. Well worth it IMHO. Enjoy it! Out http://www.104thphoenix.com/
TonyStovepipe Posted January 1, 2013 Author Posted January 1, 2013 If I did not buy it I think the money would of been wasted on random games and crap lol. Then I would regret not buying.
snafup Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 I will update here when I got it and let you know what I think, but I am 99% sure I will be very happy :) My fiancee thought I was mad spending over £100 on a camera for a game lol. Wait till you get a thrusmater warthog and rudder pedals. Luckily all my wife said is , "600 dollars of add ons for a "30" dollar game".(and not a divorce).
TonyStovepipe Posted January 3, 2013 Author Posted January 3, 2013 I think I would upgrade my graphics card first as the 5870 1 GB vram not enough for highest settings or to use helios with my other monitor as it takes it over the limit. But I will alway keep a look just in case I see a good deal lol. And my trackir been sent today by royal mail so hope to have that this week if I am lucky. Cheers.
Stitch Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 I just got my trackir 5 today, bought it from a friend who doesn't use it anymore and paid only 1/4 of the retail price^^. I love it already!! Hope you enjoy it too gothicghost! TonyStovepipe Posted January 5, 2013 Author Posted January 5, 2013 Nice one Stitch that was a bloody good deal :D The postman delivered it today and just setting it all up. I used an old xbox 360 headset to mount the track clip pro when not using my headphones. Downloading drivers and give it go in a bit :) Cheers.
dburne Posted January 5, 2013 Posted January 5, 2013 Congrats, I am betting you will love it and wonder how you ever got along without it! At least that was my experience when I first got Track IR all those years ago! Btw, here is a pretty good vid regarding setting up Track IR for DCS-A10C. bojangles_25 Posted January 5, 2013 Posted January 5, 2013 I actually tried www.free-track.net before I bought exactly the same kit as gothicghost to see how much of a difference it made, free track is great for free software but nothing beats trackIR 5.. What's said here is right, I now cant fly without it.. What do you guys prefer.. the track clip pro or the original track clip? I prefer the original myself :pilotfly: "We could come back with hydraulics shot out, half the tail shot off, piece of the wing shot off, we had two engines and could come home with one... She really was a piece of machinery that you could fly into hell and back... And she was designed around that gun from day 1"
TonyStovepipe Posted January 5, 2013 Author Posted January 5, 2013 I did like facetracknoir but then I wanted more/better so I had to get trackir in the end lol. I watched that video d.burnette thanks :) And I I had a quick test on dcs world but the options he had on the control screen like freecam I think ti was I did not have it. Trackir still worked in game but not sure why I don't have them options? maybe I set something up wrong in trackir software. Thanks
dburne Posted January 5, 2013 Posted January 5, 2013 What do you guys prefer.. the track clip pro or the original track clip? I prefer the original myself :pilotfly: When I upgraded from the TIR4, to the TIR5, I got the bundle which included the track clip pro. However I have not tried it, I use the reflector clip on my hat, as I do not wear a head set when flying. I much prefer the sound out of my Klipsch speaker system, as opposed to a headset. I hear the track clip pro though is better and smoother, maybe I will get a headset and try it someday. TonyStovepipe Posted January 5, 2013 Author Posted January 5, 2013 The xbxo 360 headset good as it does not block sound out and is cheap to buy.
dburne Posted January 5, 2013 Posted January 5, 2013 I may check that out, thanks! TonyStovepipe Posted January 5, 2013 Author Posted January 5, 2013 Taken off the ear piece and used fabric tape to make it soft on the right side. Much better now I don't even feel it much on my head.
dburne Posted January 5, 2013 Posted January 5, 2013 Thanks for taking the time to post the pics and tip!
