Warhog Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 I just installed an EVGA 2gb Nvidia GTX 670 after using the on board GPU for the last month and I just wanted to say WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Graphics are all maxed out in the options page except HDR and water is only medium. I don't care for HDR that much personally. So I went from 15fps (but it was a smooth 15fps:P) to over 80fps and outside the cockpit 125+++fps. Unbelievable. This is running three monitors. A total of 1200x 4850 there abouts. I am running 1.2.2. A-10C and 1.2.2.7570 DCS World. This is a very impressive piece of hardware. I think I will keep it. Regards John W aka WarHog. My Cockpit Build Pictures... leafer Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 Congratulations. I had a similar experience a couple weeks ago. I upgraded from HD4670 to HD7770 and WOW! Everything on high except water, heat blur, civ traffic, mirror and HDR, and went from 8-9 fps to 25-30 fps. Turning HDR on dropped only 2-3 fps but it's ugly so I turned it off. ED have been taking my money since 1995. :P
Cali Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 I have a 670 also, built a new system in June 2012. Went from a 8800GT and I was blown away, but that was expected. i7-4820k @ 3.7, Windows 7 64-bit, 16GB 1866mhz EVGA GTX 970 2GB, 256GB SSD, 500GB WD, TM Warthog, TM Cougar MFD's, Saitek Combat Pedals, TrackIR 5, G15 keyboard, 55" 4K LED
StoOopiD Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 u should try cranking up the refresh rate on your monitors if your always above 60 frames. heres a good read. http://www.tweakguides.com/Graphics_7.html [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Crosshair VIII hero wifi, 3800x w/ Enermax 360 AIO cooler (push-pull), 32gigs DDR4 Ripjaws 3600, Win 10 home on a Plextor PCI-E x4 3gb/s HD, EVGA 2070 Super FTW3 ultra+, Soundblaster Z Rift S, M$FFB2, CH Pro throttle, Saitek pedals BS2, A10C, P51D, SPITFIRE, FC3, Uh-1H, F86, Mi-8MTV2, SA342, MIG21-bis, AV8BNA, F14, F16, FA-18C, SUPERCARRIER
sobek Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 u should try cranking up the refresh rate on your monitors if your always above 60 frames. Hardly anybody uses CRT monitors these days. Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Come let's eat grandpa! Use punctuation, save lives!
JaseGill Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 Pretty much my experience of the 670 too. Your experience makes me think I need an i7 now though. Need is an overstatement of course but hey I'm a fully signed up geek :) J. sobek Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 Stay with the i5, IMHO the price of an i7 or the ivy bridge architecture is not worth what little additional performance they give. Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Come let's eat grandpa! Use punctuation, save lives!

Erforce Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 The price difference is i5 = 4 cores i7 = i5x2, for 1/4 added price. sure for DCS, i7 worth nothing. But... ED is not alone in this universe right ? ;) Warhog, i'm glad to see people with 1200p screens ! Enjoy ! But, guys, i assure you best option is Water High ;) Oh... i forgot, you are A10 pilots... you really need to lower your altitude ! Warhog Posted January 5, 2013 Author Posted January 5, 2013 u should try cranking up the refresh rate on your monitors if your always above 60 frames. Actually I'm now down to 45fps inside the cockpit but still over 60fps outside. I turned up the water to medium because I like to fly close to the deck and turned HDR on to normal. I don't know if the sliders for tree and shrub visibility have much impact on fps but I set them 75% over to the right and it sure made a visual impact. I love seeing all of those trees on the slopes. It feels much more realistic this way. What about that little bit of streaming coming off the wing tips? I don't seem to be able to see anything. Is there a button or slider I missed? Anyways, I am way to happy with this setup. Everything is smooth. There are no jitters or graphic abnormalities. The only disturbing images I've seen so far are those of my A-10C diving and crashing into the ground from not pulling up soon enough. But the graphics card isn't going to be able to fix that.:pilotfly: Regards John W aka WarHog. My Cockpit Build Pictures... Madone Posted January 5, 2013 Posted January 5, 2013 Yes the shrubs and trees have a big FPS impact, it's set to 1/3 for me but if your PC can handle it, feel free to push the slider further. Water on low or high = no difference to my eyes but a difference on the FPS counter so it's on low...:) "What about that little bit of streaming coming off the wing tips?"
