Maachine Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 just to clarify because i am confused TMS long hold down makes SPI a steerpoint TMS short down (HUD as SOI) makes the steerpoint a SPI TMS long hold up creates SPI from current sensor correct? started playing real missions tonight and am struggling with this. i guess its time for me to read the manual
Zeke Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 Here is what I understand it to be: TMS Down Long makes the SPI the current steerpoint TMS short down makes the little box in your HUD the spi (I believe, haven't really used that much) TMS Up Long sets the SPI from what the current sensor is looking at, like if you have the TGP pointed at something. Hope that helps.
Maachine Posted February 11, 2013 Author Posted February 11, 2013 i think TMS up long (with HUD as SOI) makes the little box a SPI. because the HUD is a SOI. like the TGP. yeah.....i'm gonna go to bed and start reading the manual
Maachine Posted February 11, 2013 Author Posted February 11, 2013 SPI Command Functions Set Sensor as SPI – This function allows the TGP, TAD, Maverick or HUD to define the SPI. TMS Forward Long. Select HUD SPI submode – If the HUD is selected as the SOI (default) and this function is selected, the GUN and CCIP pippers act as the SPI (depending on the HUD Mode – if NAV or AIR-to-AIR mode this makes the steerpoint the SPI as well). TMS Aft Short. Slave All to SPI – Upon command, all active sensors will track the current SPI. If a slaved sensor can no longer track the SPI, it will either track the last known position or return to boresight. This can happen if the SPI source is changed or a SPI tagged TAD symbol is changed. However, a sensor can be set individually to track a different target/object but the remaining sensors will maintain track on the SPI. China Hat Forward Long
Maachine Posted February 11, 2013 Author Posted February 11, 2013 (edited) TMS aft long sets steerpoint as SPI Edited..... Edited February 17, 2013 by Maachine to make corrections
KLR Rico Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 A little off topic, but since it was mentioned, I figured I'd bring it up... I find the TDC (That movable box on the HUD) is quite useful for rapid target designation. For example, you see a SAM launch off your wing, you can keep an eye on that spot, extend out a few miles, and then turn nose in on that area. Use the TDC to mark the general area, break away, then slave the TGP to it and continue scanning. i5-4670K@4.5GHz / 16 GB RAM / SSD / GTX1080 Rift CV1 / G-seat / modded FFB HOTAS
Maachine Posted February 11, 2013 Author Posted February 11, 2013 tips and tricks are always welcome, glad you brought it up
Maachine Posted February 15, 2013 Author Posted February 15, 2013 just for future refernece if anyone needs it. great charts in the manual showing what each joystick button does for each SOI. for the flight stick (DMS, TMS, CMS, NWS, & master mode button) pages 88-89, for the throttle buttons (boat switch, coolie, mic switch, pinkie switch, china hat) pages 91-92. seeing what the pinkie switch does....makes me wish i had a TM warthog
Paganus Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 There are several good charts around... http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=66957&highlight=A-10C+HOTAS+CHART
Maachine Posted February 15, 2013 Author Posted February 15, 2013 haha, thanks....where were you when i first started this thread? i did lots of online searching and never found that.

lxsapper Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 There have been a few incorrect things posted here so here are the correct operation of TMS UP long and TMS down long: TMS UP Long - Make SPI (no matter what your SOI is the designator on your current SOI will be used to create a new SPI) TMS DOWN Long - Makes the steerpoint the SPI (again with any SOI), it does not make a steerpoint out of the SPI you would use MARKS to accomplish a similar funtion. When your steerpoint has been made the SPI changing your steerpoint will move the SPI. You can check this in page 88 of your flight manual.
Maachine Posted February 16, 2013 Author Posted February 16, 2013 ya i meant turn steerpoint into SPI. i just typed the words backwards.
shagrat Posted February 16, 2013 Posted February 16, 2013 Well, if you were surprised by the HOTAS Chart, you may want to consider the wiki (link on top of this page, to the right of the DCS Logo) :smartass: Here is a direct link to the A-10C useful documents etc. Have fun!
