sgibson Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 Hi, After the recent update I have fantastic performance in single player (~40-45fps) playing a "fast mission" for instance. However, multiplayer results in a slides show around 10fps!! Any ideas what can be wrong? I have a fairly old Phenom X4 CPU, but a top notch GFX-card. Could it be that the multiplayer maps are more complex? But on the other hand - the Unit-AI should be done on server side?!
TZeer Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 Is the reduced performance all the time in multiplayer? Or just certain occasions? When flying "fast missions" do you have a wingman? During multiplayer, how many other planes is in your close proximity, within viewing distance?
sgibson Posted February 21, 2013 Author Posted February 21, 2013 the reduced performance is almost constantly - I can't get over 15fps I single player I have wingmans but there aren't that many ground units as in multiplayer missions.

Blooze Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 There are at least 2 settings that are forced on the client in a MP mission regardless of the settings you have chosen for SP mode. Scenes and Civ Traffic, both of which can have an impact on FPS. There are other more vague issues that it seems everyone has been experiencing in MP play that have caused an unpredictable drop in FPS that hopefully will be solved with the next update, due to be released soon. sgibson Posted February 23, 2013 Author Posted February 23, 2013 ok - that would be a reasonable explanation, but it sucks if the MP server basically overrides my gfx settings. In my case it seems to have a severe impact
Buzpilot Posted February 23, 2013 Posted February 23, 2013 Since single play is fine, it also could be your internet setup, nowadays many share connection with ipad, iphone on wifi. So make sure you try without anything else connected when you look for the cause of the problem. i5 4670 - Sabertooth Z87- GTX Titan - Dell U3011 30" - 2x8GB RAM 1800 - Samsung 840 EVO 512GB SSD - Warthog HOTAS - CH Pro pedals - TrackIR5 - Win7 64bit EVERYTHING IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE
TeeJay82 Posted February 23, 2013 Posted February 23, 2013 And set your connection in mp options to LAN
locoidal Posted February 23, 2013 Posted February 23, 2013 I think it is all related to the Tzeer finds .."the number of objects" .. (not trinagles but objects) that bottlenecks even the most powerful CPU... The A-10 or K-50 entities are composed of a lot of objects .. In a multiplayer enviroment .. how many of these entities can you find? Asus P6T deluxe V2 | I7 950@3.8 | 6 GB DDR3 (@1600 Tri-channel) 2x ATI 5850 (crossfire-->OFF) | Creative X-Fi | SSD OCZ Vertex 3 | OCZ ZX Series 1250W PSU | TrackIR 5 |
sgibson Posted February 23, 2013 Author Posted February 23, 2013 In SP fast missions you usually have a only a few units. However, in most of the MP missions you have many of them. However, I don't understand why this should impact my CPU? Shouldn't the server orchestrate the units AI?
pacotito Posted February 23, 2013 Posted February 23, 2013 I'm not sure how the multiplayer would handle the Ai maybe a tester or mod knows and could chime in. Have you tried a sp mission with a lot of units? Try running a "busy" sp mission and see how the numbers look. Also are you on 64bit windows? What are your in game settings? From the specs you gave the CPU looks a little on the weak side for dcs. Pacotito I7-5820k@4.5 Z99 extreme4 16gb ddr4 520gb ssd. Gigabyte ssc GTX960 SSC 4gb
TZeer Posted February 23, 2013 Posted February 23, 2013 If you have more units within your visible range, it will affect your cpu usage. See this thread for more info: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=101491
