fitness88 Posted February 23, 2013 Posted February 23, 2013 I have been flying FC3 [Mig29, SU-27 and F-15] from the first version but always found the cockpits too simplistic because very few of the buttons and switches actually functioned. Well I certainly would like to have the A-10C 3D cockpit flying in the F-15, brings me back 15 years ago to Jane's F/A-18 which still to this day is one of the most advanced sim cockpit 3D representation. I would like to get some feedback about the A-10C 3D cockpit, how technically evolved is it? Thank you.
SuperSix2 Posted February 23, 2013 Posted February 23, 2013 What you think of Jane's F-18 x20 for A-10C. Just depends though if you like flying slow, low, and getting ugly. The cockpit is fully functional and a fun challenge to learn. Even when you think you've got everything figured out another curve ball gets thrown at you! I recommend this game for anyone who's looking for a real simulator and especially loves the A-10. I hear though that the F/A-18C is in the works and that's what I'm waiting for now:pilotfly:
Bahger Posted February 23, 2013 Posted February 23, 2013 It's state-of-the-art, by far the deepest simulation of any combat aircraft available. I would say 85% of r/l cockpit functionality is modelled and that's not just clickable buttons and turnable knobs but all digital sub-systems. It's graduate-level flight simming compared to the FC3 aircraft and you are more likely to be overwhelmed than disappointed! We'll get the above level of detail in a fast-mover when DCS unveils its next study-sim aircraft.
cichlidfan Posted February 23, 2013 Posted February 23, 2013 If you were to run A-10C on a touch screen with TIR you could manipulate every, with very few exceptions, switch with your finger and it will produce the correct result. fitness88 Posted February 23, 2013 Author Posted February 23, 2013 Thank you all for your feedback. I find FC3 is at best a medium level sim. I've only flown fast movers but I would be willing to go to a mud mover to get the upscale high level sim.
ApoNOOB Posted February 23, 2013 Posted February 23, 2013 The flight experience is very different, as people said, the A10C has nearly everything modded while the FC3 Aircrafts simply give the Fast Mover fun. (which A10C of course doesn't have) If you want the FlightSIM go for the A10C, if you only want to fly around and shoot stuff stay with FC3, because the A10C learning curve is massive and people that just want to "shoot stuff" quickly get bored.

Actually I'm bored just flying around and shooting stuff. I've been picking at the bones of the F-15 and MIGs as deep as possible but they're pretty shallow As I mentioned earlier, after many years of flying Jane's F/A-18 I was still always learning something new each time I flew with weaponry, radar or NAV systems.
fitness88 Posted February 23, 2013 Author Posted February 23, 2013 BTW...If I'm running FC3 nicely with my exisiting computer system does A-10C require the same resources or much more?
Irregular programming Posted February 23, 2013 Posted February 23, 2013 The A10 uses a bit more resources, mostly because of the MFCDs. But if you can run FC3 I think you can run the A10

Vlerkies Posted February 23, 2013 Posted February 23, 2013 (edited) One of the best ways to perhaps answer the question of how different A-10 is to FC3, is to quote Matt 'Wags' Wagner himself from a interview. http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2013/02/15/the-flare-path-broach-and-clear/ RPS: Sales-wise, which modules have proved the most popular so far? Matt: Most all modules have met our sales expectations, and this includes both the extremely detailed DCS series like A-10C, Black Shark, and P-51D and the more shallow learning curve titles like Flaming Cliffs 3. We realize that not all potential customers want to spend weeks studying to fly an aircraft, so we think it important to provide a range of products that appeal to more than one type of flight simulation enthusiast. And I think Matt is right on the money there offering a good blend of products. Tell you what though, I cannot wait for the first high fidelity fast mover for DCS to make its appearance. Madone Posted February 23, 2013 Posted February 23, 2013 About the performances, DCS World is the thing that matter firstly, the MFDs are eating about 5 FPS maybe, the A10C is awesome, you'll not regret. It's simply a great experience to use all the controls almost like IRL. fitness88 Posted February 23, 2013 Author Posted February 23, 2013 (edited) I flew the A-10 in FC3...so it's nice to know we're talking quite a jump in A-10C. Well here I go...I'm sure I'll have some operational questions, is this the place to post Q&A? Is there a bug list posted somewhere? Thank you all for your input. fitness88 Posted February 23, 2013 Author Posted February 23, 2013 Am I correct to install first the 1.exe +3 bin files of version 1.1.1.1 and after that install the 1.exe of version 1.2.2? Thank you.
Quirkitized Posted February 23, 2013 Posted February 23, 2013 To quite myself from another thread, to install/play A-10c... http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1682843&postcount=4 1. Download DCS World 2. Download DCS A-10C Module 3. Install DCS World 4. Install DCS A-10C Module 5. Play For all future updates, patches, etc, use DCS World and the A10C Module. The old standalone version no longer gets updates as the future is DCS world with the modules plugged in. Your serial key will work the same for DCS World A10c module or the A10C stand a lone. Does not matter if you bought 1.2.2 (module for DCS world) or the stand a lone 1.1.1, serial # will work for DCS world.
fitness88 Posted February 24, 2013 Author Posted February 24, 2013 DCS 1.2.2 is installed working with FC3. Are you saying not to bother installing the 4 files from version 1.1.1.1 [when finished the purchase this was what I was linked to] just install the 1 .exe file version 1.2.2, there are no bin files for 1.2.2?
Quirkitized Posted February 24, 2013 Posted February 24, 2013 Yup, just download the A-10C Module for DCS World and install. http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/index.php?scr=product&ProductId=8&end_pos=136&lang=en Ignore 1.1.1.1. All DCS Modules simply have a .exe installer, no multiple files to download anymore. (Only DCS World it'self has multiple files, bin1, bin2, etc.) Modules just have a single installer.

fitness88 Posted February 24, 2013 Author Posted February 24, 2013 YIKES!!! am I in for it now...you sure were all right this is no kid toy...Jane's F/A-18x20, yes indeed! Good-bye day job.

Quirkitized Posted February 24, 2013 Posted February 24, 2013 Check this sticky http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=58470 However, a lot of the lists are probably out dated as the sticky was started in beta phase a couple years ago. I am sure you can find a good list though from sticky or from searching.
