Gremlin77 Posted March 3, 2013 Posted March 3, 2013 Hi, have a short question. Did anybody try to use a digital photoframe as display unit for DCS? I wonder if it could be possible to take one for e.g. the RWR screen. Had the idea to just take a screenshot of RWR every second and copy the picture to the pictureframe via usb. Then on next picture change of the frame you have actual RWR screen. This should work for RWR, the clock and so on, where timing is not so relevant. Or has anybody an idea where to get a Screen with about 2'' and VGA, HDMI or USB to use it for these instruments? Thanks for help. visit my build thread Gremlin's A-10  http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=86916
lxsapper Posted March 3, 2013 Posted March 3, 2013 There are some photoframes that can be used as USB monitors, look for Samsung they have a few. I think you can only use one though. Obsiously not as cheap as other photoframes, if that was your idea. But I think your idea is not really doable. Belive me I've had some wishfull thinking too....
Deadman Posted March 3, 2013 Posted March 3, 2013 I have written Peter about USB monitors and photo frame he strongly recommended staying away from the hassles of it and just go with a VGA connection type monitor. He may post and be more specific. https://forum.dcs.world/topic/133818-deadmans-cockpit-base-plans/#comment-133824 CNCs and Laser engravers are great but they can't do squat with out a precise set of plans.
Gremlin77 Posted March 3, 2013 Author Posted March 3, 2013 USB monitors are the one side. I use three lilliput USB monitors for MFD and ADI. They work fine. But I cannot get my hands on a real small monitor to use in an instrument. And I don't want to write an arduino prog to use an arduino TFT. I'm not very good in arduino programming, so this would be a project for weeks. visit my build thread Gremlin's A-10  http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=86916
Deadman Posted March 3, 2013 Posted March 3, 2013 yup finding small monitors that fit instruments ie the rwr is a problem. https://forum.dcs.world/topic/133818-deadmans-cockpit-base-plans/#comment-133824 CNCs and Laser engravers are great but they can't do squat with out a precise set of plans.

What method do you use for multi monitors, DCS windowed or SoftTH, or something else? (not sure if SoftTH is still working with 1.2.3) Also I guess NVG's are still stretched due to the multi monitors? Or you put all of them "under" the main display? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
MTFDarkEagle Posted March 3, 2013 Posted March 3, 2013 I tried Samsung photoframes. What it boils down to: if the photoframe has displaylink, it *could* work. Not sure how it works on other brands though. bn880: The NVG stretching can be fixed, look in the mods&apps section for NVG mod or something similar. metalnwood Posted March 4, 2013 Posted March 4, 2013 Gremlin, how small of an lcd is required for the RWR? I am not sure of the real size. I have bought a few from http://www.good-display.com that I used in my CDU. I put a few other people on to them and I believe Linden also bought one or two from there. They arrive and they seem to be OK. They come from china but I paid and they delivered the goods, no complaints, just like every other purcahse from china I have made. The only issue is that the small ones usually either have a VGA input or an svideo/composite input. They dont usually have DVI. That may set you back another $20 getting a VGA-> video converter. I use one and I do not notice any quality degredation being used for a CDU so I think you would be A OK for the RWR. Here is what my CDU screen looks like from them on a 4.1" screen, although the camera doesnt do the screen justice as it looks perfect on screen
Gremlin77 Posted March 4, 2013 Author Posted March 4, 2013 I use a small TV monitor with vga to TV converter for my CDU, too. But I'm so happy with these Lilliput USB monitors,'cause they don't need a graphic card. So, I can run both graphic cards together with SLI lifting up FPS extremely. For instruments, size should be between 2 and 3 '' I think. Have to measure it exactly. Thnaks for the links, mike!!! visit my build thread Gremlin's A-10  http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=86916
