ED / Wags question about 3rd party and multiplayer

I am little concerned about 3rd party aircraft and multiplayer session's.

I want to know if I have 3rd party module "A" but not "B" and my friend has "B" but not "A" can we still fly in the same server together?

For dcs world to succeed as a military sandbox this will be essential, and I would like to have my fears confirmed or my / our perception of dcs world clarified.

Thanks for looking

i know your asking about 3rd party projects, but perhaps the answer is with what we already know

dcs world plug ins are what 3rd party projects will be no ?

we currently can fly online against human controled players even if you do not have the module.

i dont have ka-50 black shark ( 2 ) installed but i can still fly with people who do.

they are all DCS modules, and part of DCS world, not 3rd party.

my question is about 3rd party modules and if they will be completable with each other even if someone visiting a server does not own a particular 3rd party module.

Those that develop "3rd party aircraft" under license are, obviously, licensed parterns. Their aircraft are licensed to be part of the DCS World platform.

This is the difference bewteen unlicensed, non-commercial, "mods", and ED partners working under license.

but does that mean that if someone does not own a module they can still fly on the same server with someone who does ?

Yes, provided of course that the server caters for the modules you have purchased. If it's a Mig-21 server only and you have not purchased it then you're obviously ....... outta luck.

Thanks for the reply viper. edit ( and cali lol )

Good to know that.

I know its probably difficult to answer at the moment with NDA's and so on.

From a server point of view, does a server have to buy every module to be able to host every aircraft ?

Thank you for the thread, Big Newey

Am I the only one reading this and thinking 'Should this not have been sorted out quite some time ago?'

Hmm, new direction... hmmm, how many (if any) new developers would come on board?... hmm, what would the end user reaction actually be?... Hmmm, what would the new developer actually reaction be?

hmmm... perhaps, let's take a step at a time.

yes, of course... in that scenario, as they say, _ _ _ _ outta luck, and would be expected. Quite possibly it would also be a rarity, but, good on those that would do so.

No.

At least some of the 3rd parties don't see this as definite.

Does that mean unless a host has the 3rd party product it will not be usable on a multiplayer server ?

That's what we're discussing at the moment but essentially yes.

If you don't have a module installed you may see a placeholder model, or you may not be able to enter the server at all or each 3rd party developer may have to let you download their external model, skin packs and physics to be able to get into the server and see the external model. That's what I'm testing this week.

Perhaps, lets keep the 3rd party non purchase "what happens with online" questions etc, to this thread... just to reinforce, that it is applicable to all 3rd party developers be they aircraft or ground units and not have any feel that by posting in their sub-forum that they specificaly, which isn't the case, have been targeted?

The mission builder, of which mission the server is running would decide what, if any and to what extent, third party products go in into their missions when designing that mission. It may be all third party or it may be none, or anything in between.
