TM Warthog and USB power after shutdown

This may be a silly question but my pc usb ports supply constant power even after shutdown,will this constant 24/7 power damage my HOTAS?

I can't say for certain but mine has been powered for at least 95% of the year and a half that I have owned it. Not one single issue.

yeah...I wondered about this too...but since the warthog is the second most expensive thing after my laptop itself, I baby it and unplug it every time after I use it. My concern is even if the LEDs burn out or something.

Though I did not do so at first, these days all of my profiles shut off the LEDs at startup but I don't do it for the LEDs, I just don't want them on all the time. The computer it is hooked to never gets turned off either for that matter.

Alot of modern bios's have options for the USB ports internal + external to power down after shutdown.

 

Will it damage your equipment? Perhaps it cut slightly on your HOTAS lifetime. Who knows.

 

Still oxygen and moist seems to be the main cause of degradation of electronics i'd say. The same way as it does to metals and such.

Is your PSU equipped with On/off switch? Or maybe you could use extension cord with switch?

Are you sure it is the computer ports and not just outdated firmware?

 

If you haven't already, install Target and make sure you are using the latest Warthog firmware. The issue of the lights being on after shutdown was fixed more then a year ago.

Thanks for the feedback guys,at 500 bucks plus another 180 for rudder pedals I think I'll just unplug em lol.

LEDs barely use any energy and therefore produce very little heat and since they're only there for "decoration" I don't see how leaving them on would damage the mechanical parts of the WH.

If you turn them off with TARGET they'll stay off as long as they don't get diconnected (aka as long as they get some power), in which case the internal memory will reset to standard seetings (aka LEDs on).

Constantly plugging and unplugging the USB connector on the other hand WILL induce wear in the connectors, which should lead to a shorter connector lifespan.

I'd advise leaving the WH plugged into the PC.

I plug mine into the monitor. They only come on when it is operational.. this includes my IR camera and LED cap, easy :)

As Tailhook said update your stick and throttle firmware...if you go about unplugging and replugging your stick all the time you'll end up wearing out your USB port then the cord will fall out .....My GF wore out the USB ports on her laptop doing this and the only way to fix it is replacing the board.
