If you ever fly cross country, just make sure to get a couple hour layover at Minneapolis, the light rail system is connected to the airport and Mall of America. Its kind of weird to go from sitting in an airport to riding a freaking roller coaster, to back at the airport in just a couple of hours. I can't believe I didn't know about this flight sim thing though. Had I known I totally would have checked it out when I was there a few years back. Not surprised they have it though. Mall of America had a Nascar simulation center with mostly fully size cars where you can turn some laps around a track. It was kind of a tricked out arcade, but it sure was fun.

The right man in the wrong place makes all the difference in the world.

My sister-in-law lives in Fargo and we were thinking about making a trip up there.

Been there and others as well.

The trouble is the public ones treat you like a fool. The "simulators" are at best FC3 fidelity...yawn fest. As well, you "fly" against people who have no clue.

+1

I live less than an hour from the Mall of America and have been there several times.. While I enjoyed the simulator with a bud that was visiting from out of town, I did walk away thinking that my own setup at home was superior in many ways.. DCS is the main reason for it!

I actually enjoyed the excellent aquarium much more and would recommend it to anyone that likes those kinds of things... (There is also a dinosaur exhibit that has some life size dinos that was pretty cool as well. ) But I am a real dinosaur nut so am a bit biased... Realistically speaking, the dino exhibit is very small, but the handfull of full size dinos is pretty sweet...

And that is my review of the Mall Of America! Back to your regularly scheduled show...

EDIT: OK for the record, when I went last, this new simulator was not yet installed... Watching the video (Which I should have done FIRST) shows that the visuals on this new setup are STUNNING and far superior to what they had when I visited last. But I still like the fact that my setup has the KA50... No choppers at the Mall of America...

This is what I am saying: this community of flight simmers are far and above where these public "simulators" are. In many cases, I knew far far more about the jets than the people running these "sims".

Did they do upgrades to the flight models and the whole "sim" side of it? I went a couple years ago and it was like playing an arcade game--albeit in a cockpit with a projector dome over my head.

We dont use FSX

What do you use ( commercial gaming software, or something a bit more exotic ?) it looks pretty stunning ...

You say there's scalable difficulty - how scalable ? (guess it depends what you're using doesn't it :) )

Cheers.

Doing the dome is easy. BWHawthorne I think it is advertises/works for/demos software that does exactly that. Predistorts the image so it shows up perfect on whatever surface you're using as a screen. That's clearly FSX/Prepar3d, probably running Superbug with custom panels for the touchscreens, and the magic of a WSO can be accomplished by just putting a keyboard in front of the controller tied to each bay.

Not buying that it's not FSX. Sorry.

EDIT

This video clearly shows an FSX screen on the touch screen for the Bell.

I just did a little research into this "Prepar3d" software. It's just a reiteration of FSX. Lockheed Martin bought the rights from Microsoft and added their own tweaks, mainly graphics and terrain. Apparently the flight models and weather models are exactly the same as FSX (and FSX addons even work).

True. Which makes it a shame that they aren't using REX.

Prepar3d uses the Commercial FSX API/Core/ Microsoft ESP (FSX Sp2)

Let alone the Fact that for the on going Development Lockheed Hired a good chunk of the ACES Studio.

it's like linux, you can run Mint, ubuntu, whatever, in the end it's still LINUX.

Just the lies.

Can't see a smiley here, which makes me think - bad attitude, bad manners.

I'm guessing if you were face to face in the room with him you'd have found a less abrasive way to say you disagree.
