Hi,

I just started to practice ka-50 two days ago, and I'm using 1.01c patch due to training track issue. Now I'm familiar with cold startup, but struggling in basic flight operations. I've gone through some basic FAQs and tutorials suggested in this forum. But I still have many questions to be solved and foundations need to be understood.

I'm using t16000k as joystick and x52 throttle as collective stick

For my 4th time playing the game, I can succeed rising (use trimmer but not that stable, the BS kept rotating slowly and sligtly sloping) and landing on the top of a building by using F2 view after a long slow drop with 1m/s decreasing ratio.

Someone told me that 3m hover does not need trimmer. However, when I increased the collective stick slowly (release the joystick in central position), the BS body started to rise and then bend back rapidly. I have to push the joystick forward hard to keep the body horizontal, which made the following flight very hard。Is this bending back normal? Or it's something wrong due to my operation or setup? (I did not use ground-effect to rise, I planned to learn it later after improving my basic flight operations, e.g. hover)

Another thing is about the wheel: I rotated the rudder to make a turn, after getting to the desired direction on ground, I release the rudder, however, the BS body kept turning with the wheel not restoring to its original position..... From this experience, it's quite different from LOFC2 that when I released the rudder, the aircraft immediately moved straightforward. One more issue is that, I pushed the joystick forward to make the BS body taxi forward, and if I pressed wheel brake 'w', the BS did not stop only if the taxi speed is very very very slow... I checked that all three wheels touched the ground.

I hope anybody can be patient to a rookie and tell me the solutions for above questions. I reallllllly like ka-50 and want to keep on practicing.

Hello,

RCTL ENTER will help you out a lot. It is the joystick control indicator and it shows what the trim is doing. You'll need to learn to center your controls after releasing the trimmer.

Thanks for quick reply.

I do release the cyclic stick after pressing trimmer.

For those four blue buttons on the right panels, which of them should be engaged before lifting?

So here comes my "standard Ka-50 newbie reply" wink.gif:

First download Bigfoots interactive training missions

>>> KA-50 Black Shark 2 Training missions

Read also besides the manual this:

DCS: Black Shark...

Technical, Simplified

-Coaxial Rotor Aerodynamics

-Trimming the Ka-50 Black Shark <<<!!!! very important to understand this fully!

-Part 1 - Autopilot <<<this too!

-Part 2 - Autopilot

and when you are confident about your cyclic-trim,

you want to read about your rotor-pitch trim (aka collective brake):

Is it even possible to maintain speed and/or altitude?

And when you still have time , read this too:

to DCS: Black Shark

Here is a useful tweak if you using real rudders*:

Just a few quick notes.

Someone told me that 3m hover does not need trimmer. However, when I increased the collective stick slowly (release the joystick in central position), the BS body started to rise and then bend back rapidly.

That is normal. When you enter the cockpit on a cold start, the Ka-50 is trimmed for ground handling. You absolutely need to apply cyclic forward during a hover take-off.

I have to push the joystick forward hard to keep the body horizontal, which made the following flight very hard

Once you have the chopper flying straight and level, trim (or already apply trim during the maneuver). Helicopters need to be trimmed after (or during, depending on your preferred way) every maneuver.

Another thing is about the wheel: I rotated the rudder to make a turn, after getting to the desired direction on ground, I release the rudder, however, the BS body kept turning with the wheel not restoring to its original position.....

IIRC, the front wheel is not actively steered, it just reacts to the forces applied to the chopper, so to stop turning, you need to apply a bit of opposite rudder.

In other words, the chopper doesn't turn because of the wheel. Instead, the wheel just follows the chopper.

One more issue is that, I pushed the joystick forward to make the BS body taxi forward, and if I pressed wheel brake 'w', the BS did not stop only if the taxi speed is very very very slow... I checked that all three wheels touched the ground.

Quite normal. Think of the wheel brake as a better parking brake. In order to slow down, apply some cyclic aft and only use the wheel brake if your ground speed is near 0.
