Once again, newbie question. As usual, I have done a search here. Looked in the A10 manual, both the tm manuals, and NO expanation of what SLEW is, and how it werks, whats it good for. It seems like you come to these forums, and SO MUCH stuff is expected of you knowing. No glossary, just acronyms in the back of the manual, with NO index. Amazing.

It's not an acronym.

In this case, it refers to moving a cursor/crosshair/aimpoint around on the HUD (Head-Up Display) or MFCD (Multi-Function Color Display).

Fwiw, there is a good example of using it in the HOTAS familiarization training mission...

It is one of the training missions in the sim itself.

Read the manual during night time, fly at daylight to try what you read... and forget about family and sleep, silly useless concepts for later in your life :D

As Don said go for the trainings. Next is to go through the Wiki it contains lot of helpful stuff. e.g. start up checklists, Airport overviews incl. Frequencies etc. All this is somewhere inthe manual as well, but it helps to have it at hand as a list or the like.

Take it easy, don't rush things. Familiarize yourself with your new best friend. From time to time simply jump into instant action, press the grey button on the Warthog's right side "MasterMode" until it says GUNS in the HUD and go for the trucks at WP02... Learn additional weapon systems one at a time, try them in instant action.

When you are familiar with at least the start up procedure and Take off join a Multiplayer session (some have training in the name) and try teamspeak. Learning in a team with real people is fun and helps a lot.

P.S.: Welcome to the forums!

thankx. You guys are realing helping atm. Dont worry. Will be picking brains for months to come.

Yes indeed, this is a great community and the folks here are very helpful. I frequent many flight sim forums, and this one is undoubtedly the best.

Be prepared though, there is quite a lot of learning ahead - and I know from where I am with the sim, I have a ton to learn yet.

Yeah I knew coming in the learning curve was steep, with many weeks of just learning to take off and fly the damn thing. I read where flaming cliffs was a lot less of a learning curve, but why start at the bottom, when you can start at the top!...LOLOL

Lol, that's the spirit and best of luck, you will probably pass me in no time. My problem right now is limited time.

I look forward to seeing you progress!

Another newbie here. Bet there are a lot after the sale I would think! Anyway after doing the Maverick training mission 10-30 times, lost count, I finally got it to work. A few questions I am having trouble wrapping my head around the DMS and TMS stuff. Sure I am following the training but want to know more info about what it is doing, what I am doing, etc...?

Also, I can't even find the A-10C folder let alone the screen shots I am taking and want to put on my Google Plus Community. Where is the folder and the screen shots. It's not where I found old info on here about where they should be.

Also, in multiplayer how is everyone communicating is it a specific frequency?

Sorry about all the newbie questions, but hey that's what forums are for, and everyone seems really nice to help too here :)

Have to go see if I can now get the Mavericks to work in a Mission or something....yippee!

the DMS, TMS stuff becomes second nature after a while. just look up the mapping for DMS and TMS in the flight manual. it will explain what each press does for each SOI. i printed it out and used it for a reference if i forgot what it did. i havent looked at it in a long time now because it became habit.

best way to use mavs.......create a SPI using the TGP, then switch to mav mode and hit china hat forward long and it will slave the mav to the SPI. you learn that and it will become easy.

Because once you learn ED's deep sims like a-10c you'll be bored with FC3. Not to mention you'll be trying to click stuff in the FC3 cockpits only to find you can't click nut'en. :(:) They're fun for a quick easy spin but for real fun ,or what we nuts feel is fun, stick with their Advanced Flight Model study simulations. I have all their stuff but almost never fire up the FC series unless I just want to watch the f15 do low level fly byes and listen to it break the sound barrier. (which is pretty cool):pilotfly::joystick:

Also do a search for "a-10c graphical hotas" and you'll get a nice graphic you can print out. Don't forget to us YouTube there are a number of great videos there. One series is done by a real a10 pilot and does complete mission from start-up to landing, very cool to see him do all this stuff like its second nature and you never hear him say "hmmm I can do that in the real plane why not here" He finds everything he would expect to find where he expects to find it.

This is the guy or channel 4023446

oh and its also nice to see he also misses targets :D

There are others that do weapons only, very helpful.

Been horsing around with A-10C for a few weeks now and it is worth every penny.

The flight model is incredible. One of my favorite so far, and I have owned a few. The steep learning curve is worth it.

Thank you!

Fate is inexorable...

Just FYI, he is not an A-10 pilot, but a weapons troop.

Yeah I was wondering that after watching a few more videos but he sure knows his a10 stuff and does missions just like a pilot. What is a "Weapons Troop" excatly?
