Blooze Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 I am considering a new video card and it is available with either 1GB or 2GB of memory. Considering I have 12GB of RAM on my MB, would it be worth the extra money to go for the 2GB video card? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
JG14_Smil Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 yes. Go for a minimum of 3-4G if you run a lot of monitors.
Madone Posted April 3, 2013 Posted April 3, 2013 Yes, here's the question : How many monitor do you have? Though it would save you some money if you want to upgrade your screens in the future without buying an other card. P1KW Posted April 3, 2013 Posted April 3, 2013 What would be the approximate relationship between Mem / Pixels? Besides the resolution, what other factors are influenced by the amount of video memory? Greetings! "If adventure is dangerous, try the routine. It is deadly." Paulo Coelho.
gavagai Posted April 3, 2013 Posted April 3, 2013 I still have a 1gb card and it's long past time to upgrade. Go for 2gb if you can afford it. Personally, I'm looking to upgrade to 3gb. trooph Posted April 3, 2013 Posted April 3, 2013 I have Sapphire hd 7850 2gb (Pitcairn gpu @1000mhz with mem clock @1300) i found that i rarely use those 2 gb of vram. One thing that bothers me is this. whenever i enable Anti aliasing via game options my frame rates drop down 50%... I have to inject AA via RadeonPro and sweetfx to preserve my fps... SAme goes with ClOD
Sorin Posted April 3, 2013 Posted April 3, 2013 (edited) Go for 2G VRAM, even for one monitor. Nvidia seems to work better for me than AMD. Even for lots of monitors/pixels I would not go for more than 2G. I am using 5 monitors on a GTX680 2G with 5360x3120 total resolution. See attached screenshot (edited because Helios cannot be captured as 3D because it is 2D; also repositioned the instruments). If you click and then Save As you can download the full 4960x4000 image. Helios instruments do not show the same values as the HUD because the Helios screenshot was done separately. Edited April 3, 2013 by Sorin
Blooze Posted April 3, 2013 Author Posted April 3, 2013 Thanks for the comments folks. I'll go with the 2GB. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
