Lib Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 Hi all, I would like to make a navigation with my P51-D but i have a question : What North is "modeled" in DCS World on our instruments ? is it the real North (same as on the map TC-1) or is it the Magnetic North ? in only one question : must i take care and include the magnetic declinations in the calculation of my angles ? Thanks in advance.
joey45 Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 Very good question... Having a North Arrow on the in game map would be great aswel.... The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance. IvanK Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 There is a magvar folder in the install which implies that variation is modelled.

Yeah, it goes along with the mag variation knob that does absolutely nothing. You newcomers better get used to finding things that don't work correctly. Just ask a Blackshark pilot.

I've just looked at your cockpit WIP photos - amazing work (!) , but it makes me ask - why are you building a cockpit for a sim you apparently think has no redeeming features ? Cheers.
Grimes Posted April 8, 2013 Posted April 8, 2013 Should be magnetic north, however the sim world is "flat" so at some point the conversion calculation is done. EvilBivol-1 Posted April 8, 2013 Posted April 8, 2013 IIRC, anything you see on the map (mission editor, F10 view) will be True. Anything you see in the cockpit will be Magnetic. So if you want to get the cockpit heading of something, you can use the map then subtract the magnetic declination (average about 6 degrees). Unfortunately there is no way to do this automatically at the moment. - EB [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Nothing is easy. Everything takes much longer. The Parable of Jane's A-10 Forum Rules
Lib Posted April 8, 2013 Author Posted April 8, 2013 Thank you EvilBivol !! but as i'm french, my english is poor so, just for confirmation : - if i understand well, i have to include (substract) the 6° of magnetic déclination in my calculation to keep my P51-D on the right road with my instuments. Am i ok ? Unfortunately there is no way to do this automatically at the moment. Fortunately ! i want to navigate like in the old days ! thank you again !

I am sure he believes the Black Shark does have redeeming features, hence the astonishing pit build. I think he may be little frustrated like most flagship pilots due to the lack of refinement and attention the shark has received in the many past updates. I hope the lack of polished edges on this astounding masterpiece is not a reflection of the future modules to come.
BRooDJeRo Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 Should be magnetic north, however the sim world is "flat" so at some point the conversion calculation is done. WHAT!!!!??? The world is flat....I knew it....they where right all along.
