DEST12 Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 Can you fly The Black Shark without rudder pedals? i have owned this sim for some time now and i own some fairly decent gear(TMS Hotas Warthog & Track IR) but i think pedals are very expensive(im from denmark pedals cost about 320USD for the cheapest). i am experiencing this lack of control when flying KA-50 im right now using fixed key rudder.
seikdel Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 Not very well. Yes, it's doable, but pedals are even more important for rotary aircraft than for fixed wing. I'd strongly recommend saving up for a pair.
Humbug Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 A controlled turn in a helicopter is achieved mainly by using rudder input, and not just by banking like in an airplane. I suppose it's possible to fly it without using the rudder, but it's far from optimal.
Tizid Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 Buy yourself some cheap car pedals. I use my Fanatec CSP for any flightsim as rudder pedals. Edit: Oh, and to answer your question: No, I can not. Please excuse my bad english.
bengo Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 http://www.simw.com/pro-flight-combat-rudder-pedals.html They do send to Denmark and don't nearly cost 320usd. i7 6700k/GTX1070-8G/MSI-Z170A Gaming Pro Carbon/32GB DDR4 Kingston HyperX PREDATOR DDR4 3000MHZ Vengeance 1600/TM Warthog #6106/Samsung SB350_S27B350H/OCZ Agility3 SSD 128GB / Win10-64/TIR5
Hubris Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 I wouldn't recommend it. I tried to at first but it was a disaster. See if you can buy a used pair.
Suchacz Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 (edited) ...or go the cheapest way and try tu use throttle/brake pedals from some steering wheel, even some old one. I did that earlier, before buying G940. Edit: ^^^Snipped :D Edited April 19, 2013 by Suchacz Per aspera ad astra! Puddlemonkey Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 have you got a joystick with a twist grip for the rudder? I found this to work surprisingly well. Pedals are best though. Check out the CH pedals. They are pretty robust. Just Google CH pedals and they will come up under shopping.
Exorcet Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 I don't have rudder pedals, but I have the X52 Pro with twist rudder. It works alright. I'm just learning, no previous helicopter experience except about 30 minutes in FSX, but a few days let me go from crash landing to being able able to destroy stationary targets. I plan on getting pedals at some point though, no just for the Ka-50, but for everything. Oznerol256 Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 I need rudder to control the KA-50. However, i dont have rudder pedals. Im the T.Flight Hotas X which includes a twist handle joystick as well as a rudder lever on the throttle. Usually, im not using the twist function because the lever much more precise. If you can't find any affordable rudder pedals... consider buying a Thrustmaster T16000M, and hacking it to make your own rudder pedal assembly. You'd be able to read your pedals in T.A.R.G.E.T., and you could even put those extra buttons to use. Maybe make yourself a button box or panel. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] There's no place like 127.0.0.1
Devrim Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 I asked this question to myself long time ago. Answer is: No, you can't fly without rudder pedals, but you can, with any rudder input (by twisting your stick). :D I've flied with my X52Pro long time. And last, in the name of "chasing realism", I've purchased Saitek rudder pedals. I must tell that, if you buy (or create) a rudder pedal, you'll learn or re-program your all coordination reflexes 'again'. :) But don't worry, it doesn't take much time... Puddlemonkey Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 be careful not to twist your stick too hard though  1
Yurgon Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 [...] but i think pedals are very expensive(im from denmark pedals cost about 320USD for the cheapest). That sounds extraordinarily expensive. For that rate, you could probably make a trip to Flensburg, get a pair of pedals, drink a good or two and still save a couple bucks. :) Check out some of these shops. Depending on shipping and exchange rate, you may be better off ordering from somewhere outside of Denmark, although I'm sure you'll be able to find a bargain there if you keep your eyes open. http://www.alternate.co.uk/html/product/Mad_Catz/PRO_Flight_Combat_Rudder_Pedals_/814194/? http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1/181-7972935-8584169?field-keywords=saitek%20combat%20rudder%20pedals http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1/275-5760215-9618460?field-keywords=saitek%20combat%20rudder%20pedals (For some reason, Saitek is known as "Mad Catz" in some countries. I've linked the Combat Flight Rudder Pedals as they usually receive positive feedback from users, but there are of course alternatives both from Saitek and other manufacturers).
