Devrim Posted April 23, 2013 Posted April 23, 2013 (edited) I was bored and watching TV without focus tonight... Then I've started to thinking about how people can use or show the skins made by them in multiplayer arena, "easily". We can create many skins. But they're useful for only singleplayer missions. If I want to use (or show) my own Ka-50 skin in a MP mission, I must have shared with friends who will fly with me, right? So, if ED create somekind of a skin database, all skins can be stored there. And when a pilot enters a multiplayer mission, his PC downloads the missing skins. That's just a thought. I don't know is it disscussed before... Thank you for your attention. :) Edited October 4, 2014 by Devrim Intel i7-14700@5.6GHz | MSI RTX4080 SuperSuprimX | Corsair V. 64GB@6400MHz. | Samsung 1TB 990 PRO SSD (Win10Homex64) Samsung G5 32" + Samsung 18" + 2x8"TFT Displays | TM Warthog Stick w/AVA Base | VPC MongoosT-50CM3 Throttle | TM MFD Cougars | Logitech G13, G230, G510, PZ55 & Farming Sim Panel | TIR5 & M.Quest3 VR >>MY MODS<< | Discord: Devrim#1068

kobac Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 I agree totally. It's a shame - so many good skins do not use, and so many hours of work is invested. Only, need to do something to compatibility with current versions DCSW and 3D models. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]Everything is possible ...
Griffon26 Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 the problem is, that it would be really difficult to filter out the "bad-Skins" with pornographic content or Skins with Swastikas and other stuff like this. In War Thunder its possible to make own skins too, but because of this problem they dont make them visible in puplic so I think that that could be a problem for ED too. But for sure it would be really cool to show your skins in MP! :) Regards [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Never parachute into an area you've just bombed You never have too much fuel, unless you burn.
Mainstay Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 Yeah liveries are not very MP friendly right now. Database or automatic server skin downloading would be nice. Skins can be checked in the modelviewer by admins before going on the server and Swastikas are not my problem since its historical correct.

Buzzles Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 The problems with an open skin database (either run by ED or run from the server), aside from the added bandwidth and longer load times, is that you're forcing clients to download a lot of extra material that they may not want or need. If I go on a server that's run by a squad and they decide they all want their own custom skins for each pilot, you could be looking at 20+ variations on one skin where the only difference is the pilot's name next to the canopy. Why should I have to download them when they're absolutely no use to me at all? I'm certainly not against getting more skins, but in my opinion, any new skins should be added by ED on an ad hoc basis in an update, as both a QC check and to ensure everyone gets useable skins (ie, a bit generic with borts) rather than just potentially being handed a load of personal skins. 777 Studios did similar with RoF and released official skin packs created from user submissions every now and again, and it seems to work fine. I think there is also the possibility of some good coder or someone really good at hacking that will somehow manage upload a virus disguised as a skin if the server automatically accepts them and spreads them unwillingly to clients...
