159th_Viper Posted April 25, 2013 Posted April 25, 2013 1. If I set a markpoint - is there any visual clue which markpoint am I setting? Is it A, B, C? where can I check it fast? On your TAD - will show up as a green block with the MP number affixed to the right of the block. 2. If I press TMS RIGHT short 3 times - will it set 3 markpoints at the same place? Yes. 3. Is there any method to reset markpoints and start over from the beginning? No - they run from A - Y and then start over again at A. Novice or Veteran looking for an alternative MP career? SmokeyTheLung Posted April 25, 2013 Posted April 25, 2013 Interestingly enough there is an unlabeled button on the CDU that deletes mark points in newer suites of the a10c. (This is according to the A-10C -1 that was briefly linked on these forums) Guess the real world pilots were as stumped by the aforementioned functionality as a lot of us vpilots seem to be System specifications: Computer, joystick, DCS world, Beer

BeachAV8R Posted April 28, 2013 Posted April 28, 2013 Relying solely on one's TGP for SA and target identification, sorting and prosecution is a very dangerous game one plays. Hell, even relying on your eyes does not always work. Be 150% sure, utlizing all your goodies you have at your disposal, to confirm prior to sending ordnance downrange. This is usually easily enough done by CA troops on the ground or your Wingman designating and talking you onto target, made even easier by smoke-on-target. Would make for an interesting gameplay variable that if you ever actually performed a blue on blue (or red on red) that your logbook gets frozen for the court martial.. I love playing when there are true consequences for errors. Playing "one life to live" sessions is pretty darn fun and makes you a bit more (realistically) cautious. And as I mentioned to Eno once - if I ever say "Beach is out of weapons..gonna try a couple gun runs" - talk me out of it. It always ends poorly for me.. BeachAV8R
Guest Izoul123 Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 (edited) *shrug* Non moving targets: Make mark points as others suggested. Moving targets/columns: It's pretty easy to rapid toggle/acquire/fire with TMWH. Just set left MFD to TGP, right MFD to MAV...and use the sequence of locking with TGP and slaving MAV to it: 1. Left MFD to TPG SOI *allows precession acquisition of target, don't try it from MAV mode...you're defeating purpose of TGP... 2. Select Point mode [P], TMS up short after slewed onto target. 2b) Pinky stick laser: on (I lase fire range it on all of my targets, LATCH: ON in TGP, continuously 'on' during column attack)*range find=better hit/accuracy 3. TMS up long *makes target SPI 4. China hat forward long*Slaves MAV to your TGP target/SPI 5. Right MFD to MAV SOI *Enables direct control of Maverick targeting system 6. China hat forward short *Zooms Field of View of Maverick missile to lock onto target quicker 7. TMS up short :in sequential rapid thumb bursts UNTIL locked *Required until Maverick warhead optical sensor 'sees/locks onto' target. 8. Hold Weapon release button ("Rifle" transmit on team-speak/text chat if playing multiplayer) *Fires MAV, and alerts friendly/wing-men you fired a weapon so they don't panic/take counter measures to a MSL launch that will pop on their systems 8b. Flares/Chaff/Jammer as/if needed/decided. *Per situation, almost impossible to simplify need of use here... 9. Goto step 1/repeat sequence With muscle memory you can do all 9 steps in under a few seconds. Honestly having the right HOTAS setup is really the answer to this one...you're almost screwed without it... Edited May 2, 2013 by Izoul123
badger66 Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 That's of course a good way against stationary targets, but will enemy vehicles stick around when marked with smoke  They probably would if the smoke was a big splif !!!
Frostie Posted May 4, 2013 Posted May 4, 2013 I'm not convinced of the WP method. That is just an "analog" way of using a mark point. More so I can slave my TGP to a mark point, whereas I have to slew it manually to the smoke location. The method mentioned with making a mark point for every target and the cycling through those is in my opinion the best method for "rapid fire". Although I get the impression that most people, on- and offline, feel a pressure to get this done quickly. I don't know it that's the realistic way. I don't think an A10 is sent into combat with 6 Mavs to kill 6 targets in 30 seconds. My technique is to observe the area, pick out the dangerous targets first, think about the most efficient way of deploying my weapons, safe ways in and out of the attack run. In my opinion taking your time during engagement pays off when it comes to getting home safely. This gung-ho mentality in my opinion comes from players thinking they must kill enemies fast because there will be nothing left from the other pilots The idea behind finding and killing targets quickly comes from allowing yourself to have more time with your head out of the pit looking for airbourne threats and not suffering from the dreaded target fixation that makes you an easy kill. Flying in a mission where you don't have to worry about enemy strikers or fighters gives you the freedom to leisurely search for targets and think about what you're going to have for supper at the same time, this is great for practicing weapons employment but throw in the threat from the air and suddenly the need to know what is going on in the airspace around you whilst making quick attacks becomes paramount. WP allows you to layout a visual cue for you and your allies to be able to keep their heads up and leave the target area, then return, making quick passes all while keeping their airspace SA maintained. While markpoints are the best method for marking hotspots, in a dangerous environment WP gives that extra bonus to aid you and your allies SA. "[51☭] FROSTIE" #55 'Red 5'.
