This mod is 1.2.6 compatible.

 

This mod adds a green and yellow band to the IAS and VSI for the UH-1H.

Directions:

 

Extract Huey_IAS_Gague_Mod_126.rar

 

Place UH1_pribors_c.tga inside UH-1H-CPT-TEXTURES.zip which can be found in: \Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\Mods\aircrafts\Uh-1H\Cockpit\Resources\Model\Textures

Hey mate, I was hoping for this also.

 

It's only been a week since the mod was posted, so maybe he has an update planned..

 

In the meantime, I added a green, orange, light blue then red band around the lower half on the VSI gauge..

 

If atorque wished me to remove link, the just say so mate, no credit applied to me at all. Everything is applied to atorque.

Nice, I don't think this is unrealistic as pilots would do stuff like this when there aircraft are in for repair with colour pens and stuff.

No they wouldn't. There's already a mark in the airspeed indicator showing the Vne. Why need a green band? It's pretty much useless.

 

And does the Huey have a vertical speed limit???

Well, it just strikes me as odd. We all want a realistic model. Some people even count rivets and complain about parts being 1 degree or 1cm off.

And yet when something totally unrealistic is added like the colored marks in the VSI, or that useless green band on the airspeed indicator, people are cheering... WTF?

It's not unrealistic buddy as the crew could add it using a box of pen's, if the pilot's think it would be helpful and ask them!

 

I'm the pilot of MY aircraft and I the pilot have decided that I like it and find it helpful.

 

You may think it's pointless that's fine as you don't have to fly with it so is there still a issue son?

Maybe in some banana republic this would be allowed... But not in normal armies lol.

You don't have YOUR aircraft, it's the taxpayer's :) lol. Why do you think it's ok for people to just add stuff to their instruments irl?? Believe, that doesn't happen. Do you have ANY idea how much time and effort it takes to get aviation related stuff certified? And then you think pilots are just clowns who paint their own shit on the instruments on an aircraft ANYONE of his or her colleagues will also use? Come on, seriously... This is not how it works irl.

 

I know sometimes these bands are painted on, but they're mostly for useful stuff and it's not done by the pilot for his aircraft just because he's got poor vision or something. It's usually done for the smaller (engine) instruments so you can have a quick look to see if the needle is in the green.

 

This is totally useless for the airspeed indicator, as there's already a red marker, the yellow area is a made up limit, and the green band doesn't serve any purpose other than assume the pilot using it is an idiot.

 

I won't even go into the made up stuff for the VSI :)

I'm right, and I'm holding a mirror in front of you. Remember that topic where some guy would point out that the main rotor transmission is like 1 degree tilted the wrong way? Or the space between some parts is like 1cm off? Or complain about the smallest of microscopic issues? Most people agreed with that crazy nitpicking, just because they think it degraded the sense of realism.

Now it's just amazing to see something unrealistic being added, is cheered upon. It almost seems like anything that's weird, freakish, useless or overrated is totally accepted here on this forum, while common sense and critical thinking is frowned upon.

Looks to me the crews did what they wanted with THERE Hueys.

Well... You don't have to correct me, I'll correct YOU.

 

The article you posted has to do with the outside of the Huey (doing small customized things to the paintjob of an aircraft isn't something rare, as anyone should know), nothing to do with sucking the values of limits out of your thumb, making up limits and painting them onto your instruments. There's a BIG difference between painting the outside of an aircraft to personalize it and making up limits and messing with the aircraft's instruments... Do you really not see that??

Sounds like little Rob has sour grapes because people like the mods. I have actually seen an airspeed indicator like that in a real world UH1H. Talk about a flaming troll. Oh and little rob, if you want real world value just ask little man. I happen to fly helicopters for real so I personally haven't sucked anything out of anywhere. If anyone is doing sucking around here my friend, I would look at the guy who is arguing with everyone over things he knows nothing about, yes you little rob.

 

Can anyone spot the IAS in this huey? I know its a glass cockpit but the steam IAS gauge remains. I know its a bell 205 but in the real world gauges are often replaced especially since the lifespan of most helicopters is quite long and they will be rebuilt many times and many gauges will be replaced depending on the role of said helicopter. The entire argument is null and void. I did after all explain in my original post that I know it is not realistic to do what I did in the mod, but I also explained why I did it. Quite a few pilots in the multi-player environment were flying extremely fast and they were unaware that the safe operating speed was in fact much lower than they realized. The values on the IAS gauge are quite accurate because there is not a massive difference between the 205 and the UH1. Furthermore effects such a dissymmetry of lift is the true limiting factor in airspeed. As for the VSI, safe vertical speed depends on your forward speed. As long as you have clean air coming over the main rotor you are fine. It is much easier to slip into your own downwash (VRS) when you have lower speeds combined with high rates of descent. You can actually drop the huey at a very high rate -2000fpm or more if you have the forward speed to compensate. We do this all the time when we autorotate.

I have to say nice mod but in reference to the pilot would use coloured pens that would not work as the white marks are not white and colouring over them would render the photoluminecent paint useless meaning at night you have lost all visuals of your dials or atleast the parts you coloured in.

Not to mention it would also be a gross breach of maintenance rules and should there be a crash the breach of the rules will land firmly back in the lap of whoever used the pens and signed off on it.

That said this isn't RL and I like it.

Eagles may soar high but weasel's don't get sucked into jet engines.

Fat T is above, thin T is below. Long T is faster, Short T is slower. Open triangle is AWACS, closed triangle is your own sensors. Double dash is friendly, Single dash is enemy. Circle is friendly. Strobe is jammer. Strobe to dash is under 35 km. HDD is 7 times range key. Radar to 160 km, IRST to 10 km. Stay low, but never slow.
